Found this blog post and it seems to work. Its a bit old (from 2023) but im seeing my posts on here from the equivalent of a rasberry pi! Thats neat.

Creating a Mastodon post while mentioning a Lemmy community/topic will create a discussion post within the Lemmy Community, with the first line of the Mastodon post becoming the discussion post's title.

About this, it's generally the first paragraph. So if you're used to technical reports or written news pieces, you can use those formats as the first paragraph.

Also, I second the article's suggestion to not have the community mention or hashtags in what's going to be the title, as to avoid visual noise.

TIP: When you copy and paste links, always use the "Direct Link" from the OP's instance, as demonstrated in the above image.

Just made a quick test, and your post can be found on Mastodon using my instance's local link. Yay for QoL features. =)

Browsing Lemmy groups (called Communities): works without logging in, directly on the Lemmy instance.

Only exception is NSFW stuff, if you browse those.

Lemmy groups automatically boost any new posts so you will see them appear in your Mastodon feed.

Worst thing ever. Mastodon boosts any posts from the community in the local community-as-user, but it treats replies as posts too, making for one spammy feed. Instead of that, I'd suggest following the hashtag automatically attached to the community, for example #fediverse for @fediverse@lemmy.world, or #gameart for gameart@sopuli.xyz, since Mastodon only adds the community name as a hashtag to the top post. A bit spammy, sure, but far less than following the community-as-user bot.

Instead of that, I’d suggest following the hashtag automatically attached to the community, for example #fediverse for @fediverse@lemmy.world, or #gameart for gameart@sopuli.xyz, since Mastodon only adds the community name as a hashtag to the top post. A bit spammy, sure, but far less than following the community-as-user bot.

That’s actually how Mastodon generally displays content. All posts are displayed jumbled together and out of context in the timeline, whether they’re original posts or replies. In my view, this is a general feature of Mastodon. Other microblogging services display content in a slightly more structured way, for example by showing replies in context, which is possible in Sharkey.

This isn't a bug, but a feature of microblogging systems like Mastodon... Today, however, Mastodon users can use an app like Raccoon that allows accounts to be represented as "group" accounts so that discussions are displayed as topics: https://poliversity.it/...
