They never were communist. Communism is classless and stateless. The Soviet Union was a state. And the Politburo etc was a separate class for sure.

No, honestly not at all. They were nominally socialist. But that's about it. Communism entails specific things, which they never met. I'm quite pro communism etc. And quite anti leninist/stalinist/maoist/dengist. They're different things.
