The article is strange. It is dated for today, but then at the end mentions that the eighth book is due out in May, which is was, and has since released...

AI seems to have problems with tense. Or the article was written earlier but not published until now. Idk.

Sometimes clickbait places also update the dates on articles so it appears “fresher” for SEO.

Not sure when this announcement was actually made but that also could be it.

cannot just revive Orville instead

I'm sure I read somewhere that Orville hasn't been cancelled, just that MacFarlane's schedule is too busy.

Very conflicted about this. Absolutely love Carl but hate Seth MacFarlane and his "humour"

If his work on the Orville is any indication, I’m actually looking forward to seeing this play out. In a way I think the pairing is appropriate for the subject matter.

I’d much rather DCC be animated, but the Orville gives me hope this will be good.

Agreed! With all the spells and gore it woulda been cool to get an animated show with the quality of a show like Vox Machina.

You should watch the Orville. Seth is a huge star trek fabnajd after star trek threw itself off a cliff, he created that show as a true successor to star trek TNG and it's the best thing I've seen since, well, star trek TNG

You aren't selling it to me, I am not a fan of Star Trek either :/

I think it's more a demonstration of his capacity to understand the essence of a source material. If he can adapt and tune into what made Star Trek so appealing to its audience when developing Orville, I don't see why the same treatment wouldn't work for DCC. I really think he gets it.

Which Star Trek though? The Orville continues the best traditions of The Next Generation and Deep Space 9 - challenging viewers with ethical dilemmas that are tackled without being preachy or just childish like new Star Trek shows. It does that under the guise of toilet humour at first, only to flourish into full blown classic Trek later. The only part I dislike is Seth MacFarlane inserting his current girlfriends everywhere.

Have you read all of the DCC books? The humor in the last two or three books doesn't seem drastically different to me from Seth MacFarlane's creations. It makes me wonder what aspect of Seth MacFarlane you dislike.

I am about half way through book 8. Reading this thread has made me reconsider however that maybe my opinion of his work is outdated, my opinion was formed primarily of Family Guy and American Dad which whilst they started off OK became pretty tiring pretty quick with constant repetition of things that weren't even funny in the first place like that chicken fight crap.

I will still look forward to the DCC adaptation for what it is but in the mean time I think I will try out some of his other work I haven't seen to see if my opinion changes and can be updated as from looking at the dates Family Guy was over 25 years ago now which instantly makes me feel even older too!

That’s a fair assessment. A friend of mine also dislikes MacFarlane for the exact reasons you mention, but I keep bringing up the Orville to him because it’s actually very well written and is proof that he’s got the capacity to respect heavier themes.

I grew tired of MacFarlane's humor pretty soon after American Dad hit the scene, but The Orville is damned good television.

I'd say the series feels 85% like Star Trek: The Next Generation (with a more prominent sense of humor) and 5% like what I would normally associate with Seth MacFarlane.

Ironically the chicken fight is one of my favorite recurring gags, because it's inane, random and yet still treated seriously by the combatants... Much like the events in DCC.
