Why doesn't Israel or the US try to fracture the relationship between Hezbollah and Iran? Instead of straight forward attack. Or make Iran see they are not worth the headache?

Even better, why not fracture the relationship between the US and Israel?

I am probably going to get put on a list somewhere for this. But we need to quit being the nursing mother to baby Israel. Heck I think Israel would rather we don't get involved in their shit or comment on their stuff anyway.

Israel plays a game by saying they are independent but are essentially parasites. They rely on the US for everything - financial, military, diplomatic and cultural support. Just see the latest attempt by them to latch on to intelligence and military budget spending.

I'd say symbiotes. The US doesn't strictly need Israel, but it benefits from having a glorified military base in that area. Israel strictly depends on the US, but they're playing a dangerous game with constant escalations, to the point where the US may decide that they're no longer worth the effort.

Iranian here, the government here spends most of our country's money on hezbollah and other proxy groups, fracturing it is simply impossible.

Why does it seem like Iran is a very controlling country? Like I always wanted to visit but when they started arresting american's and such for being spies, gave me a second thought? How come every protest they put down by force? Was there any mutual respect once the Shah ended his reign? How does one justify a so called "terrorist" (I am an American so please forgive) getting so much money? Is it like the US where we have bases and such all over the world, and Iran's are just centralized in a couple areas? How come Iran was willing to help US after 911 but pretty much went back to wanting to kill all of us? I don't hold anything against Iranians btw so if my questions seem to have a slant toward them I don't mean for them to. Thanks for answering ahead of time. Can I ask more?

It seems they are controlling because they are, they don't mind murdering a million people if they don't lose their power and please don't visit iran ever until theres another revolution, there was some respect towards the shah when he ended his reign because he didn't do that violent of a crackdown but the islamic revolutionaries absolutely vandalized the country and hated the shah, we don't justify when they get money, here inside iran we were pissed when the MoU was signed and that it gives money and lifts some sanctions, after 911 they just did that for a PR move to hide themselves being islamist extremists too, yeah you can ask more and i will answer if i have time.

Eh, that's a stup... I mean...

Hezbollah is almost Iran's creation. This is a bit like asking why Iran isn't trying to fracture the relationship between USA and CIA.

Hate to break it you, but Hezbollah is not why Israel is attacking Lebanon. They're trying to win territory. The rest is propaganda.

How would you propose that be done?

Afghanistan or Vietnam them. Bleed them dry.

What?

Those conflicts were conventional forces being extended to achieve friendly political stability in nations with a large enough population that was hostile to be a problem to root out. Vietnam had a conventional force element with the NVA, though the issue for the U.S. was still one of creating political stability in the south for a regime that was locally unpopular.

In your suggestion the U.S. is supposed to play the role of the Viet Cong in Lebanon, and Hezbollah is supposed to play the role of a foreign occupying conventional military.

The U.S. (and the Soviets in Afghanistan) always had the option of withdrawing to their home countries. This was easily doable at any time they wished, so the calculation of these fights for the opposing side was running the occupying side out political patience. That's not really the same situation with Hezbollah. Defeat was not about racking up a body count enough to collapse the occupying military's ability to exist, but to frustrate their efforts until occupying nation politics became fed up with the war.

So, how exactly would this be done?

The same was Russia made us think Vietnam would go all communism and supply the Viet Cong until we either went out of our minds or couldn't afford it. Now Afghanistan a little bit more in depth. We tell Israel we want to deliver weapons to Northern Lebanon. But we use Egypt to relay this and deliver supplies to northern Lebanon. And let the real government of Lebanon fight the Hezzies with their newly found stockpile no one knows about. Then do what the Russians's did to US in Vietnam and do what we did to the Russian's back in the 80's in Afghanistan. Watch Charlie Wilson's War for a lil more indepth on it.

Just send more weapons

All of your examples were of supporting existing local insurgencies in order to help them frustrate foreign conventional occupying forces. The occupiers did not have to choose between victory or death, but could at their leisure withdraw. Having that option creates increasing political pressure to withdraw over time. The is exacerbated by military conscription to an unpopular war and a lack of ideological unity in the occupying nation. This is not the circumstance with Hezbollah.

Watch a Tom Hanks movie

Read 'Mao Zedong's Principles of Peoples War' to understand the dynamics of a mid-20th century insurgency, and have a foundation for how that has adapted with technology.
