Best Buy replaced the battery on my 12 Mini. Since then Home Screen and Lock is "updating" my wallpaper and using battery. I've never had any widgets and the wallpaper has always been black.

Is there a way to stop it from "updating" my wallpaper? The suggestions I've found online don't address this specific issue head-on--the "updating" wallpaper when I've never had any widgets or wallpaper. I'm guessing this is some malicious process from Apple to drain my new battery and there's nothing I can do about it.

Not a specialist but it sounds like a shitty feature from apple. I’ve you tried going to an Apple Store ?
Yep, I'm guessing they did some sort of update rather than just physically replace the battery. I should have done it myself. Best Buy is an authorized Apple service center. The nearest Apple store is quite a drive away. I haven't been motivated strongly enough yet. I expect there's nothing they can (will) do about it, too.

My thinking is they used not authorized battery or your phone don’t recognize it as authorized or is always trying to authenticate it and it’s draining your battery
You can check battery health under Settings > Battery > Battery health.
If they actually replaced your battery with a new battery, you should see Maximum Capacity saying 100% and Cycle Count should be relatively low, considering however long ago it was that it was replaced. So if they just replaced it yesterday, the cycle count should be less than 3. Cycle count refers to how many times your phone has charged fully since the battery was installed. I’ve had my iPhone for almost 3 years now and on 920, for an example of what you shouldn’t see if the battery was actually replaced recently.
There’s a possibility that they replaced it with a battery that Apple doesn’t officially recognize. I doubt it since they’re an Apple authorized retailer/repair shop, but it’s a possibility.
People have noted weird things happening when parts of their iPhone get replaced with non-authentic Apple parts. Like if you use a generic touch screen instead of an actual Apple part, it can disable FaceID. Apple says it’s part of security, which may be partly true, but it’s mostly because Apple wants you only using their genuine parts and not buying a cheap alternative.
Yeah, the max capacity says 100%.
I assume they used an Apple battery, I wasn't able to watch them do the work and see the logo on the battery, though. I suppose I could have asked to see the battery, they were all attentive and kind. (Surprising, considering how busy they were, really.)
It tells me Home and Lock Screen is "updating my wallpaper frequently" and that is what is using the power. That is new since the day of the battery replacement. I don't see what it could possibly be updating, though. As a test, I charged it full the night before, and left it alone all day yesterday, and by the evening (about 18 hours of not touching it),, it was down to 38%, with the Home and Lock screen noted as the culprit.

have you tried just changing the wallpaper back to black and removing widgets?
apple introduced new customization features that people like, which you don’t have to use. it isn’t malicious.
