Years ago, when I'd listen to him once in a while, he'd often say something like "... and, I was the smartest guy in the room, and I'm not a smart guy."
Believe people when they tell you who they are.
It's a pretty neat trick. It's disarming, self-effacing, and it helps him portray himself as just a regular dude. An average Joe. That's where his appeal lies.
Hey, I don't necessarily agree with these people. I might not understand what they're talking about. But darn it, don't they say some interesting things? Oh, you know, I don't have a theory of my own, but aren't these unanswered questions about the official story strange? I'm just asking questions, here!
