‘I hate what AI is doing to the minds and happiness of the young’: Katherine Rundell on the view from the classroom

It's not even just AI but IT in general. Every kid in our school district has an iPad since Covid hit. The best, most ambitious students used them as tools to organize and did well. The rest were mostly distracted/overwhelmed by them.
We're in the process of replacing the first generation of machines and I personally wouldn't give a tablet to any student below 8th grade. Additionally I'd ban smartphones in school and highly recommend parents to restrict the usage. Unfortunately most parents are glued to their phones themselves and that makes it hard to keep the kids off of them.

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.
AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

AI is antithetical learning, it has no place in a classroom.
