Smart weapons: More than 70 systems using AI and computer vision are already striking enemy targets

Units of the Defence Forces of Ukraine already use more than 70 different systems powered by AI and computer vision technologies to strike enemy targets.

Integrating these technologies is fundamentally changing how unmanned systems are used. Algorithms are now being entrusted with critical combat tasks, ranging from navigation and object identification to autonomous target engagement. However, the final decision on target selection and engagement is made by a human operator.

It has been pretty clear for a long time, that Ukrainian drones are not just using simple heat seeking to hit their targets.
And we saw when Ukraine hit the first Wildberries in Moscow, how the Russian defense missiles added to the problem by stupidly turning to hit the buildings on fire. Russia is probably developing these new technologies too, but it appears Ukraine is way ahead currently.

Yes that part sucks, but if it help them win I guess that's what they have to do.

Rules:

  1. No sympathy with the enemy or its collaborators. Russian and North Korean soldiers are fascists committing a genocide. Remember that.

  2. Objective and factual reporting from the battlefield, parliaments, etc. is encouraged, even if it's about bad news for Ukraine.

  3. Insulting Putin and his cronies (Orban, Trump, Musk,...) is absolutely fine but don't use homophobic or similar language against them. Members of the queer community don't deserve to be compared to that scum. Also: Putin disciminates against gay people. If you do as well, you're part of the problem.

  4. Don't insult or use overly harsh language against other commentators.

  5. Don't submit direct links to Twitter/X and Truth Social posts. You may: Post a screenshot + quote, do a full quote and name the author, direct link to a proxy service like xcancel.com, deep link an image embedded in a tweet because Lemmy will cache a copy.

  6. Don't just complain about paywalls. If you encounter one, be a sport and link to an archived version instead. Use Firefox + Cookie AutoDelete + uBlock Origin with the annoyances filters enabled and https://filterlists.com/... to avoid encountering many in the first place.
