Because this is how you get A LOT of conscientious objectors.
Even if they start a war, modern war requires technology and drones and manufacturing and less humans. And these morons won't be able to arm for modern war in any significant numbers so I think draft won't be needed

Can’t really tell from the article what’s missing but it sounds like a one-time retro. Some perspective on the clickbait headline.
The combat pension payments would be higher but yes it's phrased clickbaity.
I was referring to the dependency and indemnity compensation she’ll get from the VA. Combat pension I’m unfamiliar with; bow to your expertise there.
The amount of payment by the SBP will vary depending on the determination of whether or not you "died in the line of duty (LOD)" or due to some other circumstance. This benefit is either taken by the spouse, the former spouse, or at a children’s rate for the children of the deceased (there are specific age limits for surviving children).
Circumstances matter for both sgli and sbp, being at war matters I believe the article also explains that. Being in a warzone bumps pay automatically everyone else has to be reviewed for payment. It's just delay and potentially payout if they say it was outside a combat zone or not combat related.
