He was steering with his knees, so both hands off the wheel, in busy traffic, and undoubtedly not paying full attention to the road, for who knows what period of time. Even at low speed, he's gonna rear-end someone eventually.
The fine for using a phone is 4 demerit points, so loss of licence for a P-plater, and $1295. This is much more dangerous. He got off lightly, imo.

Gonna be honest, before reading the story I thought "buttering bagel" was an Australian euphemism for masturbating because the thought of someone literally buttering their bagel didn't make sense...until I read the story🤷♀️🤷♂️

Butter compliments a good bagle better than anything else, but I'm not going to fault the people who don't particularly care about the bagle and just don't want the shame of eating a tub of cream cheese by hand in public, you do you.
