It's not a caterpillar, it's a pokemon. A rare one too, you should capture it with a masterball and train it.

Pokemon? Naw, you're thinking of the luna moth!

It's clearly a hawk moth caterpillar of some kind. They're really pretty caterpillars and usually have big fake eyes, and turn into fast-flying attractive moths.

Google Lens is stating either sphinx moth or hawk moth?

The iNaturalist app is also good since you can include location and date to help narrow it down.

I'm about to dunk on you a little bit and I apologize in advance because I don't think you deserve the full brunt of this, but you're lucky number one winna who has pushed me over the edge about it.

I see this all over the place and it always pisses me off. Why is it that every time people post a question on the internet now, there is always, every single time without fail, somebody in the comments saying "well I don't know but I asked AI and it said-"

If OP wanted an AI answer they're fully capable of going and getting lied to themselves. It was many times more effort to make this post and try and get a semi-informed answer from someone who might be semi-informed, than it is to go "Hey Google what the fuck is this?" and there just might be a legitimate reason why someone might go through that effort.

There has never been, and will never be unless something fundamental about them changes drastically, any question where "Grok says-" or "GPT says-" or anything similar is going to be an answer that someone is actually pleased to recieve. If we wanted to know what Grok says, or Google Lens, we can go ask them our damn selves, at the location where they live.

.......again, I'm sorry you're receiving the brunt of this, I know you were just trying to be helpful, but I'm tipping over the fuckin' edge here, man. We come to the human website to ask humans about things that humans might know about. Let's try and keep it that way lest we turn into Reddit entirely.

Because more times than I would like the thing can be found by actually trying to find it, without even AI this happens a lot where TinEye would suffice

It looks like a walnut sphinx moth caterpillar. They are usually green but apparently they can sometimes be red. TIL.

Whatever it is, you should kill it before it turns into a big, ugly, useless moth that doesn't know how to do anything other than smack into light bulbs over and over, and lay its stupid eggs in my clean laundry.

Edit: It's probably this:

So I was right; stupid ugly moth.
