good cat
She can have some pulled pork, as a treat
As is their right, peasant!
My sister's cat is the exact same way. They dub it the sniff tax.
Cargo? The van is designed to fit an entire lake inside!

Surprisingly, Lake Van and vehicle vans appear to be etymologically unrelated. Apparently they originate from entirely different language families and geographic roots:
Ask the cia.
I had a dog that I tricked into eating a tomato once. He wasn’t pleased, but after that he stopped begging. He would come up and ask to smell and see my food. If he wanted something he would let me know and I would get him some. If he didn’t he just moved along, disappointed, but we had an understanding.
We tried that with pickles, but it turns out they're like crack to the little fucker.
This is the stealing one:
and that is the disgusted one:
I have to add that the disgusted one for the first time in her life actually accepted an offering of a nice slice of ham a few days ago, so she might be changing her opinion slightly.
I love the flehmen response! The kitten loves smelling people's breath and doing the response to new smells, and I love asking her if she approves of what we had for dinner!
Agreed; I always let my cat smell things that I'm holding/working on because they clearly are interested in what their human is doing. That way he can get a better idea of what's going on and feel like he's helping.
It goes both ways too:
Ole time in my life, I lived in a house with cats. I got into the habit of showing whatever I was holding to them when they came to check if I had food. They'd sniff the thing, decide it's not edible and go back to more interesting cat business.
Then I lived in a house with dogs and had to unlearn that because if you show something to a dog, they'll probably just take it to chew whether it smells edible or not.
My cat does this when I'm drinking tea and his response is some mix of disgust and concern.
I did this for my one cat until he proceeded to sneeze on my food. Little shit.
He must inspec
I came home once to my cat on the kitchen counter and my ex holding a spice bottle up to the cat's face, cabinet door open. "What are you doing?" "Letting Max smell the spices."
He was just standing there, opening one bottle, letting the cat sniff it, then closing it and putting it back, grabbing the next one, and so on. The cat just sat there waiting and sniffing. For over an hour and who knows how long before that.
Our cat does this, but she doesn't always make a disgusted face. There are a couple exceptions:
Grapes and broccoli (she doesn't want to eat them, just play with them)
Teriyaki chicken on a stick - she will attempt to eat. So I usually only let her smell it when there's a small amount of chicken left
That branding in the bottom right is 100% covering up a Gemini logo. It's exactly where it would go.
We've had as many as 5 cats at once. We had one that did the same thing, without the judgement, he just wanted a sniff, he didn't really want it. OTOH, My Mama Bear always wanted a single bite of whatever meat I was eating, just to know that I still loved her.
this is a game i play with my girl cat. the first time she encounters a new food and i offer it to her, there is a 50/50 shot whether it is going to be food or a toy.
it makes me laugh to see the gears turning. she’ll pause in place as her brain processes the new info, and then sloooooowly… either bite it or start batting it around.
cats are great.
Inspector Han: PRESENT PLATE! Looks up, are you really going to eat that? Slow walk away with disgusted tail twitch. Inspector Chewbacca: Oh, heya mum. Watcha gots der? Sniff sniffy sniff wuffle. Meh. Sits beside me with his paw on my lap. Pointedly not looking at my plate. Side eyeing every bite. Doesn't look disgusted, but makes it clear he's making sure it doesn't kill me. Their food: royal canin duck and pea. Chicken allergies in Han. Me: beans, lentils, rice and whatever veg is in the clearance sections. I miss dairy. Their food smells delicious. At least I love beans lol.
Cat confirmed
Sorry i know this is a cat thread, but my dog is a bit like this, except he's decided he loves eating salad, yesterday he was begging for carrot, and following me around because he wanted some if my apple. I've created a monster :)
I don't think pickles are too healthy for dogs because of the sodium. You should check the ingredients first before you feed them to your dog.
"your meager offering offends me human."
Mine is just like this, once in a while she will nod approval before leaving, and you know you did something well.
... and scratch as if to bury it
I think it may be due to salt and other spices, they are kinda sensible to those and strong smells
thanks for using Leebra!
go to feed...
This was the case with my cat for a while, until I let her have a sniff of my pulled pork sandwich, and she took a big bite and ran off.
