The senator only drove 5 hours to tell them that. I like this guy.

One worker, wearing an “Impeach Biden” shirt, shouted to “get the dude who’s trying to say he’s John Fetterman out of here,” citing baseless conspiracy theories that Fetterman has a body double and never recovered from his stroke.

sigh The stupid, it burns.

Remember when "Nigerian Prince" scams were all the rage? One would hit your inbox, riddled with spelling mistakes and implausibility, and you'd think "what idiot would fall for that?“.

But targeting idiots was the point. They weren't trying to write an email that smart people would fall for, because then they'd have to outsmart a smart person. That's much more likely to end in their time being wasted or spent in jail.

Well intentionally or not, the Republican party (and reactionary parties in general) have created the same kind of filter.

Who believes their terrible lies, convoluted psuedo-logic and frothy claims that using someone's preferred pronouns is a slippery slope to government-mandated sex is children? Dumbfucks. People who have made being a dumbfuck their entire personality.

And damn is it good for their messiahs. They'll just keep handing over whatever they've got -- even if you're already a multi-millionaire. They'll cover your legal fees, blow the rest on your guns and gasoline and still rush to your defense online.

It's incredible what the intolerant will tolerate if it's coming from the right person.

It's not about yachts. They're past yachts. Money is leverage. More money means a bigger stick.

To what end?

More leverage lets them alter/create/remove legislation

Those modifications let them... make more money?

It's still a loop about having more. Deepen the line between by pulling the ladder up. The leverage isn't functionally buying any more than they already have. It's still, ultimately, more yachts.

Somebody's lawyer wants more yachts, so they can yacht race each other across the great lakes.

That's great and all, but let's not pretend the execs aren't doing what the shareholders want them to do.

The goal is to pay workers as little as possible to maximize profit. Yelling at some dudes who only care about being fired as an ego thing won't fix it, only strengthening unions and preventing companies from sending labor overseas will do that.

I feel like the point on offshoring labor doesn’t get brought up enough.

It hits new industries and job families every year, as communication technology improves and the world shrinks.

I hate it so goddamn much. There needs to be some regulatory reform that reduces the benefit of offshoring labor or things will continue to get worse.

Who do you think the shareholders are?

The board of directors. Random investment funds. Various billionaires. While a company like Ford assuredly pays their executives with stock, and is it happens Farley is a large shareholder, they've got more people to answer to than themselves.

I was curious about the $72m number. UAW has 400k members, apparently. That's $180 each worker. Member count doesn't exactly match the "big 3" employment numbers but it illustrates the scale, I think.

Not that I think those bonuses aren't nonsense. But that argument is shaky.

I always find it curious that you people focus on one person's salary instead of acknowledging the existence of the entire C-level and the ecosystem that supports them.

Company jets, the CFO, the CIO, their vices, their benefits, their expense accounts, etc etc etc.

Oh look at that, all of sudden it's not just $180. It's actually life changing.

We'll ignore, for the moment, that workers in a worse job are so strapped at the moment that even that would be a help to some.

Lumping a speaker into a larger group is a bad tactic. "you people" is a disliked phrase. Your arguments are good, though.

People so myopic they say things like "um AKSHUALLY if you split their salary between everyone else it's not much," like it's some great insight they're sharing.

The kissing cousin of the the "um AKSHUALLY if you take all of (one specific billionaire's) money it will just pay everyone a thousand bucks!

If you strip Bill Gates of his entire net worth and spread it out to all US citizens, that would be $333. It's not insight. I'm not offering an opinion on the subject. It's just simple arithmetic I did because I was curious and shared the results.

Everything else is your invention.

To me, it's not about taking their salaries and spreading them out to employees. I think the root problem comes down to employees busting ass to make X amount of money while execs sit around in meetings and make millions. It's not how much they get paid, it's how much MORE they get paid.

Yep. It's more reasonable to argue the money could be spent on worker welfare like rec areas, daycares, pizza days that aren't Domino's, etc.
