Crossposting between defederated communities broken?

12 days ago by CovertOperative to c/piefed_help

I made a link post in two related communities, but it doesn't show up on the second one from instances other than mine. I found out that the instance of the first (piefed) community has blocked the instance of the second (lemmy), so I think that may be the reason.

I already tried twice (deleted the first attempt), that's why I made this post now.

The first community I posted to is on feddit.online, that is the one that has defederated from sh.itjust.works.

Huh, I wonder why.

Anyway, when you post from piefed.zip to sh.itjust.works, anything you did previously with other instances has no effect so them being defederated shouldn't matter. Each post is a separate thing.

I had a browse of https://sh.itjust.works/c/main and found these

https://sh.itjust.works/post/67860214

https://sh.itjust.works/post/66757325

I think sh.itjust.works is having a bit of a rough time. It can be quite difficult to find an anti-scraper strategy that doesn't inadvertently break things in non-obvious ways.

Ah, interesting. Yeah, maybe it just was coincidence then.

Please check your information before posting such stuff.

NO, feddit.online IS NOT defederated from sh.itjust.works. This was never true.

@rimu@piefed.social has some explaining to do.

Contrary to what this shows, sh.itjust.works is NOT in my defederate list. In fact, it's on my TRUSTED list, the exact opposite extreme.

This is my defederate list:

I haven't been able to cross-post at all on Piefed.

But doesn't it make sense that you cannot do that between two instances, one of which has defederated the other?

Oh and please someone confirm that "defederated" means one instance blocking another, nothing more?

Yes

Haven't come across any defederated instance's communities on PieFed yet, but I wonder if PieFed could (if it doesn't already) show those as locked locally upon defederation, maybe with a tag "defederated" next to the lock so it doesn't seem the community was closed everywhere.
