Share your Shave of the Day for Friday!
Oct. 9, 2026
Hallows was the first LE soap I ever got, and it’s long been one of my favorite scents. The Glissant base is better than I remembered.
The challenge was actually easier than I expected. I used the GUTL method but without water for the first load. Then proceeded to add water and load as normal. I think the GUTL is sort of a cheat for today, but, hey, I didn’t make this up.

October 9th, 2026: Favorite
Fantastic shave!
This was my first time using Waits, but keep reading to see how it is, in fact, my favorite.
I had the pleasure of attending the Maggard Meetup this year in Adrian, Michigan. Barrister and Mann was there, and Will and his girlfriend were doing something fun. They had 6 new scents available, and participants could smell each one and rank them from most to least favorite. The best scent(s) would go on to become a released product, but we didn't know names, scent notes, or anything else like that. We just smelled them blind and ranked them.
Fast forward to last month, and the Sessions Series was released. Waits, Two Walters, King, and Kanno were released. I decided to buy two tubs, and Will said we could email him to find out which scents were our personal favorites at the meetup.
Proof that Waits was my favorite pasted below -- straight from the artisan.
Hi 'walden'!
You bet! In order, you ranked them:
Waits (your overall first choice)
Two Walters (your overall second choice)
King (your overall third choice)
Kanno (your overall last choice)
Your fourth and fifth choices did not make it into production. Let me know if you have any other questions and thank you!
-Will
So as you can see, my favorite scent is Waits.
Daily Challenge: holy crap, I can't believe that worked. I upped the difficulty by using a dry boar brush. To be fair, I stopped soaking my Semogue brushes a while ago because they're ready almost as fast as a synthetic once broken in.

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.
I used the Barrister and Mann Session Series: Waits soap for the first time in this shave. It was my top ranking choice when I evaluated the fragrance at the Maggard Meetup, and I loved it, in use, today. Awesome job Will! ( u/Bostonphototourist ).
Today was also a comparison of two stainless steel Filamonica 13s. One razor had an edge made with a Japanese natural stone and the other had an edge made with synthetic stones. I found that the synthetic edge felt smoother, and provided more confidence in the shave.
Nice! Like you, I bought my top two choices. I’m looking forward to trying Two Walters. I’m very impressed with this series overall. I’ll probably buy samples and/or splashes of the other two.
October 9th, 2026: Friday, I'm in Love
Theme justification - Roam Two remains my favorite scent. It's another that reminds me of living in the New Mexico high desert. I love the juniper, grass, and leather that comes through. Usually I use the trifecta because I think each piece brings something special, but I'm trying to non-dickhole these games.
The rest of my setup includes some of my current favorites. The TI Legacy is my favorite DE razor, and this RDC custom + Manchuridon knot is just lovely. Wenge beehive, dark and sparkly ferrule, and a fantastic badger knot. No complaints.
Relevant Post Shave or Frag - Lonestar continues the Western theme, with Égoïste bringing the progression to a softer, classier place. "The sage in bloom is like perfume."
Daily challenge - I first picked my gear today based on which was my favorite. I then, this morning, realized this mean I needed to dry load a badger knot. Hmm.
I went at it for about a minute and was able to get a decent amount of soap onto the knot.
From there it was really just mashing the soap into my face like a shave stick. I got a good base layer of soap onto my face, added water to the brush, and the rest fell into place easily.
I was actually surprised by how great today's lather was once I got some water in the mix. Very nice. Wetter is undoubtedly better, but today was also pretty good!
$FOF - Roam Two and Lonestar both smell like New Mexico to me. Roam Two is leather, juniper, and tobacco with something green behind it. Lonestar is magnolia, sage, and dry grass with a bit of leather as well.
Égoïste doesn’t have anything to do with the desert. It’s warm, woody, a little spicy, and frankly just a sexy fragrance. It sits well on top of the other two without pretending to be part of the same picture.

LG SOTD - 2026-10-09
Theme: Friday, I'm in Love - I really enjoy several scents. There are few scents that I keep backup amounts. IRM is one of them and my favorite. Unfortunately, I don't have Stirling's EdT or the vintage Irisch Moos EdC. I find putting Stirling's Unscented Balm on top of aftershave helps the scent persist longer.
Daily Challenge: Is wetter better? Yes it is. This wasn't a big hardship today though. A well broken in Zenith boar combined with Precision Loading led to a very comfortable shave. I'm sure my boar was pissed off that he didn't get his usual hot tub treatment before the workout.
