It should be banned. There's no fucking benefit. These dipshits are just taking up time in the healthcare system that would be better spent on virtually anything else.

There is a federal ban. It's just that the federal government only has the authority to ban interstate commerce. Some states allow it internally.

reads article

They do mention it in the article:

In 1987, the FDA banned the interstate sale and distribution of raw milk, but businesses were still allowed to sell it within their states, depending on their laws.

During this century, more Americans started consuming raw milk and, over the last decade, many states have loosened their milk regulations.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Raw milk is fine in theory. Improper storage isn't.

Unless you live on or near a dairy farm, you should probably stay away from it, especially if payment is expected.

Source: grew up on day fresh raw milk and after I moved out, milk never tasted as good.

And just to clarify: there are two ways of properly storing raw milk:

  • In an actively cooled tank with automatic stirring. Said tank is emptied an cleaned with acidic and caustic agents every day
  • In a healthy cow

I worked on a dairy farm. No way I would ever drink unpasteurized milk after the things I've seen.

Storage doesn't even matter that much, the cows will lie in their own shit. Even if their udders are cleaned properly, and believe me they aren't, some of that shit will end up in the milk. Cows will develop mastitis which is usually a bacterial infection inside their udders. For the first few hours of the infection the milk can look normal but it will be full of bacteria and those bacteria will end up in the milk tank.

Sure the milk tank is cleaned and chilled but some bacteria will still develop at those lower temperatures, just slower. And once you take the milk out of the tank, even a few degrees of temperature difference make the bacteria multiply exponentially faster.

Finally, even with all these things said the milk will be safe for consumption if it is boiled or pasteurized. That will sterilize it. But these raw milk idiots don't do that, they drink it as is, not even boiling it. Some adults may be fine since their immune system will handle the bacterial load, maybe they'll get some upset stomach or diarrhea. But these morons are feeding it to their children.

It's NOT fine. Cow utters are covered in shit from walking in fields. If ANY of that gets in the milk, the whole batch is contaminated.

That's why you fucking clean them. You've never seen a cow being milked, have you?

How much do you trust dairy workers? I used to work for a company that did food and dairy inspections for the state of Pennsylvania. I don't trust them one bit after what I saw.

Drink shit milk from your own cows if you want, but NO ONE should be allowed to put it to market.

Come back when you've read the entirety of the comment you originally responded to.

Unless you live on or near a dairy farm, you should probably stay away from it, especially if payment is expected.

Also, you're ok with ingesting feces as long as it's pasteurized?

I have seen it in gallon jugs at the grocery store and it scares me. They have a ton of signage about how it’s fresh from the farm and is only good for 3 days but that still seems too long.
