X is bad, though

I admire John Gruber. I think he’s a great writer. I think he’s smart as hell. He’s annoyingly funny, too. I am impressed and inspired by his success with both Daring Fireball and The Talk Show. I get excited when John links to one of my apps or articles.…

I liked twitter a lot in the beginning, when it was new and people over there felt free to actually discuss without fear. Then, it started becoming a shit show for influencers and wannabes, a race to the retweets and Likes, and I started to use it less. Then, it became an algorithmically enhanced heaven for anger, anxiety and joyful crowd call to lynching whomever they decided to hate on that day, I logged off and stopped using it. Then, Musk bought it.

That day, I did not decide to delete my account (as if they would indeed delete my old data) but I deleted its entry in my password manager. I have yet to feel any desire to log back in, or to actually miss what it had morphed into (which was already ugly before Musk bought it)

I'm glad someone else remembers how much of a shithole it was even before Elon owned it. All that happened in the transition was that the overall political pendulum of the site went from one side to the other.

Side note, when it was new, my one friend used it exclusively for its truest, most noble purpose: to tell the whole world every time he took a shit. We need to get back to that.

Amnesia is not an accident, sadly. People don't want being reminded they too can do and have done shit (me included).

Article commenting on another article: https://daringfireball.net/...

The other article: "X is good because it's big, and all negative reports are exaggerated"

If you have stayed away, or even just mostly away, from X for years and then come back, people just say things like “Hey, glad you’re back!” On the other networks, especially Mastodon, they tell you you’re “feeding Nazis” — by going to the platform where Tim Cook posts Pikachu videos. These people have either lost their minds or refuse to check their prior assumptions. (Most of the ones who chime in about it publicly are the lost-their-minds types.)

I feel befuddled. And now I see why somebody would write an article to contradict another article.

Why does Lex Friedman admire John Gruber in the first place? Now he has to disprove him, and he's 100% correct point by point.

How can you hate 4chan Twitter, it's just a place for wholesome chungus memes!
