my guess is that the ad is sometime post 1986 when Weaver was indeed the biggest name of the bunch
and the role wasn't specifically written for a woman actor, but she got it
the primal fear theme it was going for is face rape, scary for (most) men and women
Ad is for a televised showing of the film. This would have been long after the theatrical run and even after a period of VHS availability. So, Sigourney would have been known as the star of the movie by then and would have a couple other blockbusters to her name, as well.
I don't remember her wearing an eighties power suit either.
I guess it's time for a rewatch.
The ad is out of a TV Guide.
The movie aired March 25, 1984.

Interesting that Ripley is front and centre there. In the movie the characters are killed off roughly from the most famous actor to the least famous one, eventually only leaving the completely unknown (at the time) Weaver, to make it look like she doesn't stand a chance against the alien.
Of course, today she's by far the biggest star in the cast, ironically thanks to the success of the movie, which kinda ruins this clever casting trick. I guess her name was already big by the time of the TV release.
