It was very very very slow. The season finale was 🤯🤯🤯.
I don't remember it being slow, but I think that's just because the slow pace was part of the intention behind the show. Offices are slow, horrible places to work when we're talking about corporate environments. So it added to the horror that they made many in-office experiences drag out, and it hit really hard as a result.
So yeah, I agree, but also... I loved/hated it (mostly loved it).
It was. I don't like this service, but this was a fantastic show.
Please remember to enjoy all shows equally
For All Mankind, Severance, Silo, Slow Horses, Foundation, Pachinko (my personal favourite), I could go on.
Apple TV+ may not have many shows. But their quality ratio is unmatched.
And Ted Lasso got boring after the first season 🤷‍♂️
Morning Show too. When we're looking for a new thing to watch we always check Apple first to see if there's anything new. Netflix drops heaps of garbage on their service then cancels the good stuff. Prime has a lot of really expensive but hollow productions. Zaslav is stripping HBO for parts. Apple doesn't put out a lot but I can usually trust the stuff they put on there.
Netflix drops heaps of garbage on their service then cancels the good stuff.
While I persist with Netflix for budget, films and a few perrenial favourites... they don't half pump the garbage. Great true crime, and just as much half baked shit-podcast-now-a-shit-series true crime :/
Yeah even shows I’m not into have a mark of quality that definitely is appealing to others interests. As is typical with Apple, they focus on quality over quantity. Haters hate, and there is plenty to be critical of, but Apple gives a fuck about quality much more than a lot of their competition.
Ted Lasso got boring after the first season because they made everyone happy and bubbly. It worked so much better when Ted was the lone optimist.
Invasion isn't a bad show but ignoring the fact that See, Silo, Severance, Slow Horses, Foundation, For All Mankind, and most other shows on Apple TV exist is just dumb. Ted Lasso was mid after season 1 imo but Apple TV has an unmatched quality level with most of their library. I dislike Apple but they've been making banger after banger compared to every other streaming service and I hope Monarch is just as good as everything else.
Severance was one of the best shows to come out in the last few years.
I feel like the difference in Apple TVs shows versus other streamers is the cinematic quality.
It reminds me of the days when the difference between network tv shows and premium cable shows was distinct.
I can’t seem to find the exact words but it feels like Apple TVs programming is just more polished, whether the plot/writing/pacing etc. is not great it still feels like a polished product that fell short.
Apple understands that trying to cut every corner to reduce cost is a recipe for garbage. More than that, they’re not afraid to spend what’s necessary to achieve better than “good”. I think they’re evil in other ways for sure, but I respect this about them. It shows in everything* they produce.
That keyboard was the absolute worst.
And they did 3 different versions of that shit before killing it for good.
It’s kind of cool to see them back to basics. Good keyboard, good connectivity, no touchbar BS, crazy good CPU and GPUs, crazy battery life.
I really enjoyed For All Mankind.
Silo is also on apple+
Did Apple pick up Tales from the Loop?
No, they did not. It's Amazon Prime.
All of those can be watched in a month, though. It's not enough to sustain an entire subscription. Also, foundation kind of sucked (nothing happened... maybe it will in the future, but also maybe it won't)
Tales from the loop is actually on Amazon prime, lol.
Someone didn’t bother watching For All Mankind, and it shows. Do yourself a favor and give it a watch!
Hi Bob
Yeah but stop at season 2.
Why not past 2?
I'm also curious... It's on my list before my free trial ends.
I've had a free trial for almost a year now, lol. But I won't be paying for it afterwards...
Danny and Karen.
Oh Jesus Christ, you’re right. I forgot. It was so hard to watch.
I watched it long ago. Do they start with Mars now and is it the same actors?
I love Ted Lasso, but I actually have found about a dozen shows on AppleTV+. I love Severance, The Servant, Loot, Trying, Still Up, See, Foundation, The Morning Show, Physical, nature shows, documentaries, and still have shows on my list I haven’t gotten too.
Thank you, Tim Apple
Yeah I hate how many good shows they have. I want to hate apple so bad but they are putting out quality stuff
I would say Severance, For All Mankind, & Foundation are all good to great. Apple TV has been doing a great job with the quality vs. quantity compared to other services. I tried to get into Ted Lasso but it wasn’t for me.
I don't mean to be a purist, but the books were better. I'm a total fanboy though, so I'm watching the series not matter what.
That's not entirely true... I'm a total fanboy for the dark tower books too and I've only watched the trailer of the movie. My fanboyism is not absolutely unconditional.
"It's impossible to like two different things."
Read and loved them since I was a kid. I understand that different mediums have different requirements and adapting stories from the 40s/50s might necessitate some changes. I definitely have my issues with it, but I am able to enjoy it for what it is and not pretend it’s a 1 to 1 version of the books. Life is too short to get upset about entertainment.
1 to 1
You're kidding, right? The series would have been better if it weren't called Foundation. They've mutilated the source material far worse than anything JJ Abrams has ever done.
If you start watching that show because of the name and history, then it's a terrible show.
If you took Jersey Shore and renamed it "Lord of the Rings: Shoreline" while having the characters spout the word "Hobbit" here and there, people would be rightfully disappointed.
This honestly isn't far off of that. The show is a disgrace to the books and shouldn't share the name. Maybe if I can go back and forget the association, I could appreciate it for what it is. But it's not what it was sold as.
I don’t know what to say. I went in not expecting a 1 to 1 of the books. I agree there are definitely some things that are very questionable and things I don’t like, and I think there are some cool things about it too. I love the books and they will always be there for me to enjoy. I just don’t have the energy to get that upset about stuff like this anymore. I’m not trying to change your mind and I see where you’re coming from. I’m just trying to say that liking the series doesn’t automatically mean you’ve never read the books.
Can't wait for Silo S2!
Yeah, it was kind of boring, right? Very little happens. The entire first series should have been 2-3 episodes at the most.
I enjoyed it so much I bought the books.
I think it's the first time in my life I bought a book instead of using the library, but when I tried to check them out they were backordered for months because of the popularity of the damn show. Lol
Foundation and Silo are phenomenal
Severance and Silo you mean. Foundation has been partly great and partly terrible. Any plotline with Brother Day has been fantastic. The others have been weak or, in the case of Salvor, terrible. Overall, the foundation is worth a watch, but it is not phenomenal, in my opinion. Not like the other shows.
And Severance. One of my most-awaited TV show returns.
Yarrrr
This is the way but apple peeps can't help themselves.
I enjoyed Mythic Quest, I have not seen the latest season though
[DELETED]
I didn't think it was that bad, but I also binged it all at once and there is a noticeable decline as the show goes on.
That's a bummer. The first season was good... Except that bottle episode... Can TV just stop doing bottle episodes?
Severance is brilliant
Ted Lasso and Shrinking are both made by Bill Lawrence, who also made Spin City, Scrubs, and Cougar Town.
It's not Apple that makes the shows good.
Apple licenses the content from the creators -- that's true of almost every network and many film distributors as well.
Few distributors make their content in house. 'Netflix Original ' doesn't mean it was made by 'Netflix Studios' -- they don't exist. What happened was (for a series) that either a complete season or a pilot was shopped around, and Netflix bought the (exclusive) rights, which made that piece of content a Netflix Original. For films, they have usually already been made and are in a limited theatrical run (eg. Festivals) or are being shopped around privately. I imagine a limited few have distribution deals made prior to production, but that's still not 'Netflix' (or Apple) making that content.
Apples launch content (eg. Ted Lasso) was produced to prop up the platform, but the method by which that content was discovered, funded and then licensed is not much different from how a traditional network (like NBC) might function.
Shrinking was really fire
How has nobody mentioned Shrinking? It's amazing! Also Bill Lawrence.
Meh, I wasn't a huge fan. Watched the entire series and it was always a borderline show. I liked The Big Door Prize better. I don't think I've seen anyone mention that on here yet...
Shrinking is amazing!
Yes!
I might still be watching invasion if it weren’t so damn dark, as in, I’m watching a black tv screen for 30% of each episode. Really enjoyed lasso, foundation, and currently watching for all mankind which is also quite good so far.
Invasion is good?
I have never wanted all of the main characters to be killed horribly by aliens more then when I watch Invasion.
I never hear that show mentioned, but it’s excellent.
It shows just how little impact being on Apple TV has compared to the other streaming services, I'd put Black Bird well above Dahmer for a true crime drama but Dahmer being on Netflix makes it so much more relevant.
Makes me feel better about not subscribing. I couldn't get into Ted Lasso. There, I said it, go ahead and kick sand in my face.
Only reason I use AppleTV is MLS. To be fair, they've done better than I expected so far, hoping improvements keep coming though.
That's not on Apple TV. It's on (HBO) Max.
Why are so many people in this thread attributing shows to Apple TV that were never on Apple TV?
Apple TV+ does not have enough shows to justify $10/month.
lol, I can totally see this on an Apple Billboard.
Yup. And now it's over. And so is my free trial next January. Bye, Apple TV. I won't miss you.
I think u meant MLS season pass....
Maybe if they hired a single around engineer or their commentators werent on par with the NFL's "hot takes by a guy with tbi."
Apple tried to give me a free month of Apple TV and I tried to give it back to them.
The foundation was a disgrace.
The half of the show with Lee Pace that was completely divorced from the books was legitimately great. The actual foundation stuff, bleugh. I couldn't say if I hated that half because I'm a fan of the books or if it was genuinely bad though
It was genuinely, meh. Like you said, Brother Day has great stuff, but on the opposite end is Salvor, who has a terrible storyline. The rest is meh.
Lol I disagree, but I can appreciate this point of view
You can't say the last season want just an absolute circle jerk. Character development and back story? Yeah fuck that shit, we need someone to completely abandon their character arc to fit in to this episode.
Yeah season 3 was a bit crap
