Maybe because this platform has fucking assholes on it, I don't know. Just saying from experience.
@piefed.social
How convenient places are near me. Where I was, I had to drive 45 miles out and back to get anywhere. Now for a while, everything is 5 - 10 minutes. Chump change for miles and yeah if I really do want to broaden my exploration, can go a bit further, but not when I need something as before.
I used to have been on Reddit for about 10+ years. I enjoyed the platform because I was able to feel like I was part of a community. I got to vent about my work, rant about my problems, help out people by answering their problems, giving suggestions, post my opinions on things in some subreddits and contribute to others. Felt like I was a member.
Then I just noticed the atmosphere change for the worst, thanks to politics and socially charged individuals who politicize and turn every platform into an activist podium of some sorts. Everyone seemingly got argumentative, trolls became more and more prominent. It was at this point I was starting to see bans after bans. It was pissing me off so I got mutinous overtime which lead to more bans, making more alts that equaled to more bans.
It got to a point where I've been banned so much that I was shadow-banned on sight, regardless if I made a account on a VPN or not. The old trick of going to AskReddit to build karma up on a new or alt account wasn't working anymore. Because Reddit was getting on to those tactics thanks to others having done it multiple times. So after these 10+ years, every and any enjoyment I've had on that platform was all but gone.
And I'd like to believe that because of my main IP being changed, I'm able to partake into it again recently as a couple months ago to the present now. The platform is all but unenjoyable. You see the same posts. The same questions asked hundreds of times. Moderators being trigger-happy on bans, which already I've gotten one from a wrestling subreddit of all places. Rules don't matter because everywhere on every subreddit there's a section that says 'Moderator's Discretion' which means that moderators can do whatever they fucking want anyways so why have rules?
And the whole Reddit filtering shit is awfully annoying. Yeah, have fun making a post where you pour even some of your most natural feelings into it, without trying to be offensive or stepping on toes, just for that damn thing to trigger and remove it altogether. Good luck talking to moderators too, who take their sweet time getting around to even viewing the post, with a good chance they'll remove it themselves.
It's like Reddit has committed all of their resources, to make it an unbearable wasteland of shit. Spez did a good job at that. For every step forward he thinks he has taken of progress, he sets the platform five steps back. That's some talent.
And Spez can absolutely go fuck himself for being the corporate dick-sucker he's always been.
"Xbox XP will be headed by Kayleen Walters, who previously spent a couple years as president of Minecraft studio Mojang and before that spent close to a decade in different brand and "franchise development" roles at Microsoft. Prior to that she spent 13 years at Lucasfilm, finishing her time there as vice president of franchise marketing and integrated planning."
That's disaster waiting to happen, all in that one paragraph. So you're going to have someone spearheading this, who only knows Minecraft and Marketing. Yeah, good fucking job there, idiots. There is nothing there that speaks of being a director, a producer or even having a hand working staff behind a film. Just an annoying marketer who's going to shove this shit down our throats. Wonderful.
No, it's practically impossible. In the current dictionary, there are 600,000 words. At most, an average talker will memorize 42,000 words. As to what conditions and status they'd have to be in to memorize that much, I wouldn't know.
Never get into a traditional relationship. I've been in twenty four of them in my life and while I have had enjoyed feeling exclusive, feeling purpose and belonging. People don't often talk about the negatives of being in one.
Like, I've been in relationships where I was the only one working and the other didn't even try looking for work. There was little room for co-autonomy, where you have to feel like a part of you is pre-determined and predictable to make a relationship meet the compromises. I've had been in relationships where it felt one-sided.
And yeah it all could've been a matter of just winding up with the wrong partners, which is true. But it's exhausting finding the right person and I just can't simply be bothered. What I am up for, is finding partners I could just get close enough to but without the traditional nonsense. People who you could say are worth your time bonding with and they think you're worth their time bonding with and we can have the intimacy/affection as bonuses.
It's kinda like being at that line where it is like a relationship, but isn't at the same time. I think at my current stage in life, that's what I'd like to have. I don't want to ever again worry about who wants me to spend my money and how. I don't want to partake in drama where who I'm with gets back in touch with that long lost friend to find - oh - they're in love with eachother and want to be back together. Not like I'd know since that exact thing has happened a few times.
And I can do without marrying, I just don't think my life's design has marriage in the cards.
What turns me off from VR is having to have a headset on your head to even enjoy it. Plus a dedicated room so you're not hitting anything. It's an expensive entry point.
Unironically - Canada.
I won't get confused about there being 50 states, because I've got about 13 continents instead. Better safety nets, socially. Better healthcare, obviously. Notorious friendliness, as demonstrated.
Homeless and Addiction problems? Name me a place that doesn't have that. Seems to be everywhere.
Oh an immigration problem? Also, please tell me what place where that isn't an issue.
I'm about tired of emojis. For a while to me, emojis are weaponized by people who post snarky responses and just want to use an emoji as just an indirect snub to add to it. The fun of using them has been ruined from that and people that feel the need to spam fucking a chain of them.
Energy drinks.
Like okay, Monster Java to me is awesome to have once in a while. But, I've tried numerous energy drinks in the past and the flavors don't always hit. I'm drinking some overly artificial liquid garbage and it's telling me that it's "Strawberry Aggression" on the can.
If you tried just one energy drink or two just for variety, you've tried them all.
I can't get into sparkling water either.
I honestly don't plan to demo or wishlist this. However, I would love to see more games like this, about rebuilding a planet that's been savaged by war. A lot of the time, we got games that are like Fallout where, the bombs already fell so it turns into just surviving the aftermath. We already have tons of games like that in a variety.
But we don't have enough games where it's like, the bombs fell, the aftermath sucks so okay - let's rebuild it! Why not. More games like these can get people to think more of ideas of thinking past the point of these kinds of things whether it's nuclear fallout or recovering from the damage of corrupt powers.
So, saying 'nobody uses X' is a bit of a stretch considering that whenever it's said, there's proof to the contrary that people use said thing. People use lemmy at times, but the problem is as it has been pointed out before many times, is that lemmy is still too niche and small when compared to larger platforms.
One of the big reasons I can think of is, is that Lemmy just doesn't have the span of community as someplace like Reddit does. You're not going to find a Darts lemmy instance, you're not going to find a MentalHealth lemmy instance or anything. On Reddit, there's hundreds of micro-communities that cover a range of interests that anybody can join and talk about.
Lemmy only seems to focus on just a handful of things; Politics, Memes, Games, Piracy, Linux, News, Technology and Asking Questions. That's great and all but, just about anyone has these in spades. Not everyone wants to cycle through those things on a daily basis, they'll want something more. But it's going to turn people off from Lemmy immediately when they migrate from Reddit.
Yeah sure, we can tell them to make an instance to cover that niche itch, but once it's built, it can be months to even years before it gets attention. And nobody wants to spend time just running around like an annoying salesman to get people to join said instance just to feel better about converting someone else over from one side to the other.
Another reason is that - moderation can be ass. Yeah, some moderators on Lemmy have the mentality and maturity of an edgy 15-year old who spends too much time online for their own good. And we can all see it in plain sight on the modlog so I don't even need to explain.
thanks for using Leebra!
