I never understood why people thought this would be a good thing. Growth for the sake of growth is meaningless. The best way to grow the community is by attracting sane people who are capable of having adult discussions. Focusing on a number of users is misguided. What really matters is sustainability. The only things that actually matter are having enough users to create content, having sustainable development resources, and enough funds for hosting the community.

Having a bunch of radlibs swarm Lemmy doesn't really add any actual value, and creates no end of problems. Thankfully, we can at least mitigate the damage thanks to federation.

Another thing I find hilarious with Anarchists is that many of them are huge EU supporters. Turns out they're totally fine with centralization and large unelected bureaucracies in practice. These people are just LARPing.

I think the context here is that there are rifts forming in US government now. There is the neocon camp that wants to keep escalating, and there's the realist camp who say that this has gone as far as it can go. The realists are putting this stuff out so they can point to it later when the war is shown to be a debacle and use it for political leverage against the neocons.

The really good news is that all the communities on lemmy.ml have been created long before radlibs showed up, and are administered by sane people.

I completely agree that this is most likely a temporary phenomenon, and once things come down in a few weeks a lot of these liberals will stop engaging.

One point I'd like to add is that we should actively participate on lemmy.ml to prevent libs from taking over. The way I look at it is that Lemmygrad is an instance where communists can talk to each other, and lemmy.ml is a place where we can educate people and counter liberal propaganda. It's also valuable for us to see the arguments libs make and how to counter these effectively in a forum that's not fundamentally biased against us.

AI is pretty useful, and when people complain about AI they're just misguided in my opinion. The problem fundamentally lies with the capitalist economic system where AI is used to put people out of work, and make them destitute. In a socialist system, there wouldn't be a downside to reducing work and increasing automation, it would just mean that people would have more free time to enjoy their lives the way they want.

Yeah, I'd rather the community grows slower, but attracts sane people than having rapid growth of liberals with addled brains.

I think on Lemmygrad we should really be proactive with banning.

Yeah for sure, if people are just lacking education and are willing to learn then we should do everything to help them out. We just need to keep the trolls out.

It's quite a culture shock for lost redditors on Lemmy. They're so used to their views being mainstream and basically unquestioned. All a sudden they're not the absolute majority, and it drives them nuts. I'd advocate to just engage politiely without downvotes first, but if they brigade then we can respond in kind.

I find the trick with libs is that you have to use their sources they consider to be trustworthy, it makes it a lot harder for them to dismiss that. And western MSN will often squirrel the facts away somewhere in the article, so you just have to go through the pain of actually reading through the drivel to find them. This was a rare case where they put the relevant stuff in the actual headline.
