Right? I love cyberpunk but it’s not fun we got the shitty cyberpunk dystopia and not the awesome one with cybernetics and neon

rockerface 43 points 7 months ago
Cyberpunk had always been dystopian tho. The point of dystopia is that it looks like utopia until you're in it.
CIA_chatbot 13 points 7 months ago
That was the joke, we got the really shitty one
HeyThisIsntTheYMCA 8 points 7 months ago
yeah, we're supposed to get cybernetic upgrades not cybernetic downgrades dammit
CIA_chatbot 7 points 7 months ago
God at least some shadowrun action right? I want trolls with autocannons and gnomes hacking into megacorps - not ketamine addicted techbro cybernazis
HeyThisIsntTheYMCA 4 points 7 months ago
lesbian game night has consisted of goblin with a fat ass in between rounds of frosthaven so mashing all three of those canons (a shadowrun goblin with a phat ass in frosthaven, shown by standing next to one of the crab people i guess? that's how it was in my brain use your own imagination it'll be more fun) just gave me quite the dopamines. thank you.
FoxtrotDeltaTango 3 points 7 months ago
There are different types of cyberpunk dystopias, post cyberpunk and regular cyberpunk dystopias
CIA_chatbot 2 points 7 months ago
I know, I’m old, I love cyberpunk. I was making a joke. Not dissecting the larger genres into sub-genres.
FoxtrotDeltaTango 2 points 7 months ago
I know

cyberpunk anime with guts and griffith
Gullible 12 points 7 months ago
Uhhhh, blame! fits the bill. I’ve recently started reading it after stumbling upon the movie. This might sound like low praise, but I can’t figure out any other way to describe it without trampling over some facet of its mystique. It’s worth the time
mycodesucks 23 points 7 months ago
See you space cowboy...
DragonTypeWyvern 3 points 7 months ago
That's just a chronic infection
TribblesBestFriend 16 points 7 months ago
It was a nice time, a simpler time
Krauerking 6 points 7 months ago
An easy excuse to get that nudity tag while somehow arguing its better cause they are plastic.
RightHandOfIkaros 12 points 7 months ago
"VHS"
I still got some on LaserDisk.
Krauerking 11 points 7 months ago
And right at the end of this era and somehow hitting the bullseye of all the tropes while also being a meta commentary on them:
The Big O
Krauerking 4 points 7 months ago
Its a truly wild rild and so good. Producer of Akira and Director and writer of Appleseed kinda feels obvious.
_stranger_ 10 points 7 months ago
Just re watched ghost in the shell the other day Hell yeah.
RichardDegenne 8 points 7 months ago
I'm right in the middle of watching Neon Genesis Evangelion...
Yeah.

Anyone else remember trying to catch anime on the sci-fi network on Saturday mornings? It never seemed to start at a consistent time and it was usually Vampire Hunter D.
Back before anime was even close to mainstream and hardly anything was translated.
HeyThisIsntTheYMCA 4 points 7 months ago
i wish i had known the trick was to stay up late friday night.
FrChazzz 1 point 7 months ago
Back when it was referred to as "Japanimation." I used to watch the Saturday morning anime. I caught Green Legend Ran on there and remember really liking it. I need to revisit that one at some point.
Zoomboingding 6 points 7 months ago
Goku was naked a few times
Zoomboingding 1 point 7 months ago
We don't count Puar /s
It's been like 20 years since I watched through Dragonball though. I know Bulma is at least topless a few times. Besides that, what? Oolong and Krillin once or twice?
Someonelol 6 points 7 months ago
A new Patlabor anime can't come soon enough.
caseyweederman 5 points 7 months ago
What's the nudity one from? When I was very young, I caught about two minutes of an anime on public television in a different language.
Did a dude knight climb up the tower wall, see her, and almost fall off? Is she changing the dressing on an arrow wound?
I didn't really discover anime for over a decade after that so I might be misremembering the art style altogether.
But I sure filed it away as "Something Interesting".
sukhmel 2 points 7 months ago
Finding the source was a bit complicated, but it seems to be from episode 7 of DNA², the description of which does not match what you remember: https://web.archive.org/...
caseyweederman 2 points 7 months ago
Thank you for looking into that. You're right, that's not the one I remember.
IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds 5 points 7 months ago
what's the blue spider as the bottom left? I swear my parents watched this when I was like 8 and definitely not ready for it
AscendantSquid 10 points 7 months ago
I think it's from Wicked City, it's an anime movie from 1987
IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds 4 points 7 months ago
time for a rewatch
Capybara_mdp 2 points 7 months ago
Yep- starts out like guyver, but the main character can’t properly transition so he needs a robot buddy as assistant (and cannon platform)
tgirlschierke 4 points 7 months ago
that's the good shit right there
Tetragrade 3 points 7 months ago
freaking sick brah
jaemo 2 points 7 months ago
AND?! what's wrong with starting out with these perfectly viable/plausible plot and visual design concepts? If anything that medium was prescient. People be asploding Neo Tokyo on the regular now in their tiktoks for the memeslingery.
iswyrm 1 point 7 months ago
@FoxtrotDeltaTango @GlitchGhost Mix in this for Italy.
Free to swap MLP for Transformers... everybody knew them at the time.
Somehow, the lesser / local tv networks were able to get Anime and Filmation along side with a mix of unusual old movies and show. Tv was once a lot more interesting...

Cyberpunk is kinda losing its appeal, the closer we're coming to living it ...
