In October of 2023, when Israel started its genocide (and yes, in week 1 we already knew it was a genocide), liberals were falling over themselves defending it. On .world especially. You can go back to the Israel-related threads at the time for yourself. This predates the 2024 US election by a fair amount btw.

When did that happen? The closest was people pointing out, correctly, that if you actually cared about Israel's actions it was obvious that Trump would be worse. That's not defending genocide, that's trying to prevent people from making stupid decisions for noble reasons.

They're doing their job for the party leadership, and they are rewarded very well for this (but never as well as the leadership, of course).
There are always enough on hand to stop any legislation that may be bothersome; always eight or nine can be found.
Politicians are one of the few remaining ways to become wealthy in USA, if you're not born with a fortune it's much easier to become rich via politics than working a normal job.

The Democrat party is both conservative and right wing, and it continuously shifts further in those directions as a result of being the only party to give concessions to other side as a method of "meeting in the middle". This also allows the ultra far right party to keep shifting further and further right because in order to have controlled opposition there must be some small differences.
