How could algae have learned to multiply? We're eliminating the department of education to prevent problems like this from reoccurring in the future.

They're probably also deeper, which both provides a less ideal environment for algae to grow and also looks bluer despite algae that might be growing. The water in the tidal basin is also moving and has water naturally flowing in and out. The reflecting pool does not have that and needs to be shallow so that water movement is minimized to create the reflection it's supposed to give.

Why would they wait until next week?

except it causes a feedback, eutrophication effect. teh algae dieback, and the consumption of oxygen by bacteria when the alge decomposies causes deadzone in the water. this is not that bad, since its manmade and not connected to another natural water system.

Yet still not as shocked as that pool is gonna be.

They added bleach and peroxide. On their own, each can combat algae even though there are better ways. Together, they make eachother less effective.

It was not fine

The pool has had a history of bad filtration and would cost a lot to fix it, which is why it was never really fixed

On one hand it looks like shit but on the other hand who cares? Big picture, this isn't a major issue worth sinking a bunch of money into

But Obama did try to invest some money into fixing it but that was also a failure in that nothing really changed. Obama spent "a lot" of money and got basically no results

So Trump, trying to be better than Obama, has taken it upon himself to fix it. Except, Trump can't seem to do literally anything right and so now it's actually worse than it was

It didn't help. The "paint" is now peeling off in giant sheets.

Is it important? No. Is it useful? Yes (if presented to the right people and not used as a circlejerk)

First, it doesn't belong to the White House or Trump. It's there for literal and metaphorical reflection on what it means to be America, with specific reference to Lincoln and Martin Luther King. Second, I'm sure a bunch of the public money from this project landed in Trump's pocket. Third, it's just another failure, in the one area he's supposed to have had experience in before running for President.

Unlike his moral failures that appall us every day, we can laugh at this one.

Ok. Well for people who care about patterns, him adding to the pattern of incompetence is worth mentioning.

Were it not for the money and the grift I'd be pretty unconcerned also; maintaining a pool to look at in the middle of a swamp is supremely stupid.
