Dr Fauci killed 1 million americans by creating the concept of cold. Also, cold doesn't kill people so the advice we wear coats was irresponsible

It's funny you mention the cold thing...

Getting a cold or a flu isn't more common in winter because you're out in the cold. The human body has no problem running the immune system as usual in colder temperatures. In fact, that's one of the last things it lets go of in critical survival.

If there is any reason why people get sick in season changes, it's either adjusting to the season change itself, or people neglecting personal hygiene because they spend more time indoors with infected people and washing hands is cold now. Things like that.

Edit: God damn. I'm like Skeletor's "Well Ackshually" twin... UNTIL NEXT TIME

washing hands is cold now

At work, our hot water went out for weeks on end. No one that could fix it seemed to give a shit. But our company is super high on "safety first" so I reported a safety concern that i over heard people weren't washing their hands because the water was too cold. And honestly, it was almost painful to wash your hands with how cold it was.

We got a written plan for fixing/replacing and what bathrooms to use if you needed warm water by the next morning. And they actually executed to the plan.

What is it about "work that just isn't my work" that makes it so fun?

Is it the change of pace you think? Sometimes I take a break from my job to simply roam the office and count stuff that needs resupply, or push in people's chairs.

The immune system is affected. It's just not the only reason for the spike.

Well, yes, people don't get colds when the weather is cool. People gets colds when the weather turns cool, or dry, or hot.

The scientists created weather in a lab then released it to make trump look bad. I watched a YouTube video and Facebook post about it so it must be true.

Lmfao someone doesn't read their history or is improperly educated

There's a place in the world with vast biodiversity, poor history of sanitation practices, a history of denying health outbreaks and malpractice that has shown to accelerate issues around outbreaks and houses some of the most densely populated areas on earth.

Totally goofy shit to say

Fauci did actually say at one point that masks don't work against COVID and could actually make you more likely to catch it, which was a lie intended to avoid a rush on masks that would lead to a shortage for healthcare workers (after Trump gutted the emergency stockpiles). This whole debacle is a perfect demonstration of why it's unethical to deceive the public even if you think it's justified. Whatever temporary benefit might have come from it is vastly outweighed by the long term harm of destroying trust. Anti-mask people could literally point to clips of Fauci on 60 minutes saying masks don't work.

The standard lib response is to either deny that it happened at all or to make some vague reference to "the science changed." I'd be fascinated to see what specific scientific study at the time showed masks were ineffective at combatting a respiratory illness, and what caused this supposed study to be discredited. The fact is there was never anything to suggest masks are ineffective. It was just a lie, prompted by shortages. Other countries, across Asia and elsewhere, immediately rolled out masks because they obviously work and they didn't gut all their emergency services.

It is of course pretty much impossible to express any sort of rational criticism of any of this without being lumped in with the crazies, but it was a significant deception that really convinced me the US is FUBAR. Even the scientific institutions have been corrupted. Of course, now we have RFK Jr. so at this point it's very obviously a clownshow regardless.

What I heard about masks (not from Fauci) was that they don't at all prevent you from catching COVID, but they do help prevent you from spreading COVID.

path: 0 25098446 25100166, hotness: undefined, score: 10, children: 4
RamenJunkie 7 points 17 days ago

The other part of that is, maybe they are not 100% effective at stopping you catch it, but they may provide SOME protection, especially when coupled with social distancing, and everyone wearing (stopping you from spreading).

And, what is 100% not going to stop the spread, is wearing nothing.

This doesn't even get into slowing the spread so hospitals don't become overwhelmed and staff crippled by being sick and other, non COVID patients being unable tonget treatment. If grandpa has a heart attack but can't get help because the heart doc ended up with COVID, and grandpa dies, he didn't die from.COVID, but COVUD still killed him.

They are more effective at not spreading it but also help somewhat in not catching it. A sneeze can carry the virus a very long distance without a mask, and a mask can provide a barrier but having contact isn't great even with a mask.

That sounds like an everyone but me problem!

/s

Really though, I do have a friend who would take it that way. His take was "vaccines won't stop this from existing, so why bother?" Slowing the spread, lowering the risk, and hindering the symptoms meant nothing at the peak of the pandemic.

Probably because it causes people to touch near their nose to adjust the mask.

It's like the people in super markets wearing gloves only to reach into their pocket to get their phone. Covid gets on gloves, gloves touch phone, person touches phone with no gloves when they get outside. Gloves did basically nothing but it doesn't mean gloves cannot help.

I find that I have to wear at least a light jacket to avoid discomfort anywhere below 62F-ish, depending on humidity and sun intensity. At 30F wouldn't having just t shirts be literally dangerous for any significant amount of time exposed?

Canonical_Warlock -2 points 18 days ago

Not really. I do it all the time. I guess it depends on what you're doing and if you have any medical issues with circulation. As it is I usually don't break out the jacket until it is regularly below 20F and I don't usually break out a full blown coat unless the temp is under 5F. If I'm doing any actual work then I actually find that I'm usually better off being more lightly dressed because in cold weather you're far better off being slightly chilly than getting slightly too warm and sweating. Sweating will kill you in cold weather.
