they do artificial insemination of cows and horses by putting on a big glove condom, holding the end of a long tube with a syringe full of semen, sticking their arm in the animals vagina, and squirting the semen in there. im not sure why they need to stick their arm in there. i feel like they could come up with a less... tactile method. maybe some kind of a tool that doesnt involve getting shoulder deep in an ungulates pussy...

This an industry that does not really care all that much about workers or farm animals. If it "works", there's little incentives for the industry to switch

They have to extract the semen in the first place too

I forgot how exactly the relevant silicon valley reference goes and I'm not googling it. Just imagine I did a clever reference about jacking off as many dicks as possible as efficiently as possible

First, states have ban on bestiality. Industry somewhat neutral at first, but then the industry start to want to artificially insemination. For several reasons. Farm animals can be resistant of their attempts to force them to mate and artificial insemination makes it harder for them to avoid. Animal farmers want to have fewer male farm animals since it's cheaper to kill them than to pay to raise them. Farmers also want to be able to better artificially select genes meaning more "productivity" (higher slaughter weight, more milk production, more egg production, etc.) even if at the expense of their health. The dairy industry especially wants this because they have to keep a cow pregnant constantly to produce milk

Process to collect semen for artificial insemination requires restraining farm animal and then forcibly jerking them off, electrically simulating, or similar. Process to inseminate requires restraining cow and then putting hand up their genitals to keep them pregnant.

No way to collect semen for artificial insemination without removing ban on bestiality since both ends of it break those law. So they lobby hard to add an exemption for themselves

I’ve seen a video where the female horse kicks the stallion in the face and seems to kill it. So I have to imagine if you have a valuable horses it might be safer to do it artificially as well.

Safer in so far as it gives them little room to say no and make bigger resistance attempts. Neither method exactly is exactly great, to be clear, but neither has to happen. It's something we're choosing to make happen by making this an industry in the first place

I had a quick read about it within my country and it is legal, but only if a veterinarian deems a female dog (for example) not to be able to reproduce in a natural way with another male dog.

So it seems they try to use natural Intercourse asfar as it goes before AI is needed and even then, a vet has to declare it's okay on every animal separately.

Though was a bit unclear on how it worked on an industrial level. During the years, the laws tightened from just needing some experience to actually needing a vet with a certain insemination subject within his/her grades when finishing university. So it gets stricter as time goes on ^^

Hope it'll get better in america. The world can only develop as fast as the slowest person.

Neither practice is exactly great, to be clear. The industry does not exactly take cows, pigs, sheeps attempt to say no to mating into account no matter them method. When it's not artificial insemination, they're still holding them down to keep them from leaving

It's not really an exaggeration when the cows get an average of 3 months a year "off" being pregnant, and are killed around the age of 6 years old when past their prime milking age.

I meant constantly as in the second dictionary definition of happening super frequently

2 : with regular occurrence

https://www.merriam-webster.com/...

The broader point was impregnated many times. Having a few months "off" does not make much of a difference to that point
