Do you head for the theater upon release or wait for either Blu-Ray or streaming?

I used to visit the movie theater (before coronavirus) but now, I seem to lose interest as apparently people have lost etiquette or public courtesy on communal spaces (from using their phone with max brightness, speaking loudly whilst the movie is playing), is it just me feeling this way? I'm like "it'll eventually be re-released on disc or shown on a streaming site soon" (I wouldn't be surprised if coronavirus accelerated the decline of cinemas).

Fuck theaters.

I occasionally go (that is once or twice a year) to The Alamo because they don't mess around. They're expensive, but not much more than any other theater, plus I get a burger and a beer.

And it's usually for an old movie I never saw in the theater.

Last one was Lawrence of Arabia. Seeing it in a theater is way different than even on a large TV.

We go to the cinema to celebrate specific occasions and pick from the films that are playing.

The last time I went to a movie premier just because it was a premier was Snakes on a Plane, which was admittedly very fun. When I was at the dollar store that afternoon trying to buy rubber snakes the clerk was scratching her head. "We usually have a whole bin of 'em," she confessed, "but there seems to have been a run on them these last coupl'a days." When I explained about the movie, she shrugged and said, "I guess that'll do it," and walked away.

I have no interest in theaters anymore. The quality of 4k HDR on my 65" OLED tv destroyes any theater screen, not even close. I have dolby 5.1 and I control the volume, I don't need become temporary deaf because I wanted to watch an action flick. We can pause, eat, drink, use MY OWN BATHROOM, don't have to worry about loud mouthed idiots on their phones or with their kids. Sure waiting a bit sucks sometimes, but I pirate everything anyway so it's not that long of a wait. Yeah, I don't remember the last time I went to a movie in a theater.

It really depends on what movie it is. I prefer the theaters that are a little more expensive because the lounge chairs are amazing and the crappy seats at the cheaper make my back hurt a lot. So it has to be something I really want to see. Last one was Project Hail Mary, the one before that was my Ninja Barbie weekend (new TMNT and Barbie within 3 days). When I go, my partner and I make it into a full on date night. One buys tickets, the other buys food at the theater.

Otherwise, I don’t even wait for it to stream because I’ve dropped a lot of streaming services. I’m on the app for my local libraries at least weekly to check what they have in order. I also go to my local branch at least once a week to see what they have on their “Hot Titles” 10 borrow shelf. In the last few weeks, I’ve watched the new Mario, Mario Galaxy, and Disclosure day. I’m patient and I can wait for the BluRay to hit my library.

Honestly? I more often wait for the digital release so I can enjoy it in the comfort of my own home —away from the asshat "movie goers", overpriced no-effort "concessions", etc. This is the way. 🙇🏼‍♂️

I am between three small town cinemas in the UK. Thankfully we don't get a lot of talking or bright phones etc at any of them and they are all pretty good, with talks before or after the film, local films, silent films with live music, arts events etc. so we do go to the more interesting things like that, but for run-of-the-mill blockbusters or whatever, I'm far happier staying at home and waiting.

I go to the movies if it's something special, otherwise look at the streaming places I already pay (Coupang) otherwise find it on the pirate bay if I really really want to watch it. Most of the time I don't have the time to watch it anyway.

Wait a couple weeks after release then go to the cinema. That way you're more likely to get an empty cinema.

The theater staff would probably be very cross with me if I asked them to pause the movie so I can go to the bathroom, take a call or grab a snack.

I talk during movies so I like watching at home. If I do go see it in theaters I go well after the release when the theaters mostly empty. I don’t go on busy opening days.

Edit: I should say before people jump down my throat for ever talking in a theater at all. I have severe adhd, like I was in textbooks and training videos severe. I can’t take medicine for it because it nerfs my appetite completely and I start to starve.

Not making comments here and there for a a couple hour period is not possible but I still have a right to exist in society. I’m reasonable enough to not show up on opening nights, but if you show up on a Wednesday morning three weeks after a film came out… you’re just going to have to deal with me sometimes. I don’t know what to tell you.
