100% agree. It was the only way I viewed Reddit for 11 years.
The day that pop-up appeared saying it was shutting down I set all the (small) subs I moderated to private, deleted my account, and came on over here. What a fucking shame.

Yes, I'm sure Apollo was great, but I never even knew it existed until this whole fiasco, because I jumped to RIF when it was still "Reddit Is Fun" and never looked back, because it did everything I needed, perfectly.
Word. As an Android user, Apollo wasn't on my radar. Christian certainly made a name for himself throughout all of this - he was a phenomenal David against Reddit's Goliath, but I RiF was the backbone of my Reddit experience and will be dearly missed. Excited to see what apps for kbin rise from the ashes of Reddit.
I used RIF, Boost, and Apollo. Whatever. I'll try anything once.
We didn't hear from RIF or Boost as much because I think they thought reddit was negotiating in good faith, and they would come to a compromise that didn't shut down their app. That was never in the plan for reddit, and they lost a few weeks of talking to people about what was happening.
I used Apollo the last years, but I had an Android before that and used RiF, I‘m sad about both and sad about the death of all the others I never used too. Reddit has lost me as a user forever and hope they enjoy their corporate curated ad experience over there. Goodbye to all the talented devs, may their next projects be even more successful.
rif's UI was near perfect for me. I called it an app version of old.reddit, which was exactly what I wanted.
(Before old.reddit I just considered it a perfect app version of Reddit.)
I'm sure I had it many years before this image from 2016 - it's always had a place on my home screen since the original Galaxy Tab 1. (which is still going today as an SMS device at a radio station.)
Replaced with /kbin PWA for now.
It was a comically large phone at the time (7") - OLED screen, excellent speakers.
It was how I accessed it 99.999999% of the time.
FTFY. The only time I didn't, was when I was accessing it for work, or when somebody sent me a Reddit link after the company started infesting all mobile web users with that app-only bullshit. :(
Same for me. I originally downloaded some rage comics app on a Galaxy Gio which basically just pulled from f7u12 (remember those days lol). I kept seeing references to reddit and went and downloaded the first app I could find. 11 years later RIF has been my most used app on every device and I'm gonna miss it
As soon as I heard RIF was shutting down I left reddit altogether. I don't have strong feelings about the official app one way or the other but the way in which the execs at reddit decided to handle this situation was more than enough to get me to move.
Thank you for posting this here. Really heartwarming to receive so much kindness.
Let's be optimistic for the future of Internet communities. Technology evolves and puts more power into the hands of the users. Excited to see what's next.
This is your app? You're awesome dude, RiF was the only way I browsed reddit on my phone. Thank you for the years of joy and I wish you success in all your future endeavors.
Glad to share it! Thank you so much for your hard work, I cannot overstate how much I loved your app. I'm sure you've been getting this bunch but seriously the experience on Reddit is fun was what made Reddit. I have barely used it ever on a computer and have never really experienced it any other way. It is by far the number one used to have on my phone and losing access to it is losing access to Reddit for me. I'd love to know about any other projects that you're working on because the quality and simplicity of your product was what made the experience so great all these years!
Thanks for all your hard work :)
Thanks for all the work behind the scenes!
Jumping on the bandwagon here. Sad to see the current state lead to the end of RiF. The app has been a huge part of my internet addiction. Thank you for all the years of development and patience.
I saw that you were developing an app for Tildes. I believe it was called 3Cheers or something along those lines. I just wanted to say good luck and I hope your future endeavors are way more successful than redditisfun.
I'm on both here and Tildes so I'll be looking forward to where this leads.
Thank you for giving us such a good mobile experience on reddit. RIF suited my needs perfectly and I am both sad to see it go and excited for whatever the future holds.
Many thanks for all the years browsing reddit the right way. Wishing you all the best in your future endevours!
Been a Reddit is Fun good user for over a decade. Is by far been my most used app. Earlier editions had the little alien in the corner, and I have three phones with that logo burned into the screen. I really have been enjoying the growth of Lemmy/Fediverse, and it reminds me honestly of early Reddit. But still it's bittersweet losing RiF and how drastically the community of Reddit has changed over the last few months
I know a lot of the devs are trying their hands at Fediverse apps, id love to see what talklittle could do if he tried
LJ Dawson is working on a Lemmy app to replace Reddit Sync, but I think Lemmy is a bit... chaotic... right now in terms of code quality.
Hopefully I will see RIF on the other side.
RiF kbin native fediverse app or an analog with a few added fedi features would be pretty tight
I never even heard of reddit when I was introduced to rif. Only reddit I know. I didn't really try others, didn't need to. It was perfectly simple. Thank you and now on to new and better things, hopefully
Reddit Is Fucked
Sync was my poison. I used it enough that I don't feel any particular need to ask for a refund... I got way more than my money's worth out of it. In fact, I'll pay the author again if a new Sync arrives with Kbin support.

Do I have some good news for you
Sync for Lemmy in 3~ weeks, direct kbin support later on
Ohhhhh damn!
Sync is an app that not only would I argue was the best Reddit third-party app, but one of the best Android apps in general. And it was made by one guy!
Sorry, Sync was an app. 😭
Likewise, I will throw money at the developer when / if he releases something kbin-compatible.
Same. Sync was amazing when I was on Android. Used BaconReader and RiF, and been on Apollo since switching to iOS, but Sync was/is the best. It’ll be missed.
Reddit was only fun on the phone because of RIF.
11+ years here. A moment of silence, 99% of my redditing was through this app. I feel bad that I only just bought the premium version because I didn't realize just how good it was, but I hope I made up for that. Thank you for your years of service.
And fuck spez, glad to be here now.
Not to defend reddit, but they have been burning money all this time.
I don't know about that, do you have any proof? Because the website was basically ran by the community, and reddit management was getting the income from ads.
Maybe you are right.
EDIT: If they were burning money, why they stayed open for more than 10 years?
Same, I know Apollo and Bacon Reader were popular, but RIF was so simple and easy on my old junky phone. It worked when other apps would crash. Awesome dev.
Been using RIF for years, paid for it at least once, never regretted the purchase. Reddit without RIF isn't worth considering.
I really hope that the dev makes a Lemmy client, Lemmy Is Fun when?
RIP RIF. I'm another one who used it 99% of the time. I'm glad I found kbin and I'm mostly over reddit, but I'm not over RIF. Thank you for all those years. Fuck you u/spez for destroying the site I've been a part of for almost 10 years... in a single week.
So long RIF. It was always there to get me to my favorite subs and the glorious nerds that resided there. You're gone but you're not forgot, here's to better things to come!
RIP RIF. You helped me keep my sanity at the office.
Everyone salute to one of the giants that made reddit fun o7
Although RIF was the only 3rd party app I used for reddit, I still feel grateful for all the other devs that made reddit what it was.
Thank you RIF for the funny memories and a obligatory fuck u/spez
Along the way I used many reddit apps like Apollo, Boost, Relay, Sync, Slide OS. But, Reddit is Fun kept staying in my top 2 because the simplicity and features kept drawing me back. Had the same app over multiple of Android phones exporting and restoring the settings.
I will miss it very much.
This is correct. I'm also excitedly watching Sync for Lemmy as Lemmy and Kbin are pretty neat so far and will only get better. I have been finding myself using all of the above.
Although @ljdawson and I have been vicious blood rivals in the past in the Reddit third-party Android apps sphere, we've been interacting more lately and see eye-to-eye on a lot of things. Great person and great developer.
I need my Lemmy is Fun
Jerboa actually gives off similar vibes for me, though it's still definitely its own thing.
I've been using Reddit is fun for about 8-9 years now. First started on my Samsung Galaxy Q in high school. Shame it's come to an end.
Thank you, RIF was my main source of entrainment for 11 years. I guess you can say all good things come to an end, and RIF was most definitely something I enjoyed.
Reddit has made it clear that profit is above all and users be damned. I say launch your IPO and let us watch the firey demise of what was once a good platform. Reddit will become a glorified hell hole of corporate shills (1000x worse than it is now). This may be a blessing in disguise, and create new opportunities for the development of better apps, like an app for Lemmy!
Anyway, rant is over, and thank so so so much for RIF. I cant wait to see what you develop next!
thanks for using Leebra!
go to feed...
Rif was reddit for me. It was how I accessed it 99.9% of the time. By far the most used app on all my phones for more than a decade. I'm extremely sad that this is how it dies, but all things must end, it seems. Rest in peace old friend. And rot in pieces reddit, for killing the best goddamned app I've ever used...
