I have a weekly game of Blades in the Dark right now! It's maybe actually my longest running campaign - stretching the limits of the system - also we're playing as cultists

I'm running a GURPS game for some family (Dungeon Fantasy tropes plopped into a Steampunk world, for Firefly-esque fun), and I'm running a solo game of Eberron using GURPS rules as well! For the solo game, I'm using Ironsworn to manage the GM side of things.

I bought the GURPS core books like a decade ago and never got a group together to play. I'm still interested in doing it one day, but my list of games to run/play is so long already.

You might skim the offerings at https://1shotadventures.com/ - they're all one-off GURPS adventures the author writes and makes freely available! Could lower the barrier to trying out the system :) (edit) Each adventure also includes a set of optional character sheets; since character creation is one of the more time consuming parts of GURPS (/edit)

I've found it interesting, we've been trying to play a full campaign w/ it, but in my opinion its more suited for a connected series of loose adventures, it also has some interesting things where if the GM's Ryuujin reaches certain levels they are to take a break and let a player GM the session w/ a separate Ryuujin. Altogether though it has been a fun experience

I don't think Mork Borg counts as a non-d20 system, but I'm playing a sandbox Solitary Defilement adventure with that right now. I'm here to spy on what systems other folks are playing though so that I know what to try...

Alien, mainly. And last Saturday I ran Fantasy Flight's Star Wars game which uses a bunch of custom (Genesys) dice. Wasn't really convinced, tbh.

Ran a great game of Delta Green (the xfiles meets Call of Cthulhu) a couple of weeks ago for a party of six. It went really well, and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. We used pregen characters but my own adventure and people enjoyed it so much they want to use the same characters in another adventure.

Just started playing in my first Blades in the Dark campaign a few weeks back, the system has been a blast so far! It's so very flexible and allows for many interesting narrative decisions. Also been playing Shadowrun for a few years, which scratches a simulationist itch but is often very very crunchy.

Cyberpunk RED and FATE on the regular at the moment.

Hoping to play some more Halo 'n' Horns games soon, big fan of the chaos that can come out of two DM's.

Been playing Call of Cthulhu and a one shot for The One Ring 2e.

The One Ring uses dice pool of d6. Never played a game based on dice pools, and I think that I like it more than d20 + modifiers.

path: 0 133809, hotness: undefined, score: 6, children: 2
drlecompte 3 points 3 years ago

I'm assuming the One Ring uses the Year Zero engine, as it's Free League? I also like that system, due to its basic simplicity and the sheer fun of rolling a handful of dice at once.

path: 0 133809 136726, hotness: undefined, score: 3, children: 1
rgalex 3 points 3 years ago

I thought so, but no. On their FAQ they say it's a revision of the first edition, which wasn't behind Free League and technicaly it isn't the Year Zero engine, but it also uses d6 pool dices because the first edition already used them.

Just ran a rad one shot of CBR+PNK, a forged in the dark cyberpunk system.

Otherwise I run a lot of my own system Brighter Worlds, which is a Cairn (and more) hack with the d20's removed. Not that I was going out of my way to avoid d20's, but that's how it ended up. I've been playtesting it for more than two years now, I think, and I finally feel like I'm starting to close in on the finish line.

I've had good luck running Lasers & Feelings type games, created by the same team that did Blades in the Dark - and it's perfect for new players who don't want to get bogged down in miniatures rules and combat tactics.

There's a really neat rules-light system called Risus. It's extremely flexible and there's even a free or cheap adventure on DriveThruRPG called Toast of the Town which was the most fun TTRPG adventure I've ever played.

I've been playing Legacy: Life Among the Ruins which is a fantastic game that I highly recommend if you're looking for something more open ended (Or really any hack based on Powered by the Apocalypse). Legacy is unique in that player characters take control of an entire faction rather than just a single character. Tons of fun and creates all kinds of unique stories that would be impossible in other systems/games.

I'm also getting ready to start a new campaign with Imperium Maledictum that I'm looking forward to. I have my admech savant X-Zariel all prepped to be consumed by xenos and/or warp shenanigans.

There's also an even smaller 2d6 RPG called Westlands that was made by a friend of mine that I'm going to be playing with and might even help contribute in the next publication. But we'll see how that last part goes.

Apothecaria is another one I've been playing, it's a solo journaling RPG where you play as a village witch who needs to heal the various villagers that come to you with their ailments. You need to go out and forage for the materials, brew it, and sell it. That builds reputation and progresses the story to more challenging ailments and customers. I've only done one week (the game's version of a round essentially) but I think it has a lot of potential and I'm looking forward to diving more into that.

I got some other one-shots coming up as well. I found a great local group who specifically does no DnD so it's been great being able to try out so many different systems.

Also been running some Vaesen one-shots and I'm tempted by Candela Obscura; I also backed Teeth and might be starting in a Delta Green game if I can fit that in.

Absolutely! One of the Clever Corvids campaigns (probably The Magpies, http://magpiespodcast.net/) is a good place to start. Desperate Attune is also good, and the BitD Discord server (https://discord.gg/NSd6Pk5d) is very friendly and people sometimes run one-shots to help new players get started.

I mean, technically Pathfinder, as it's not a d20 system, but that doesn't feel like it answers the spirit of the question

Unfortunately, I don't have any other games going at the moment, but I really want to try Thirsty Sword Lesbians, and somehow make a game of Exalted work (though I know it never will)

I've mostly been running the Without Number systems by Sine Nomine (Stars/Worlds/Cities Without Number). They're rules light ENOUGH that things don't bog down in combat, but still allow a extreme degree of player freedom in character creation. Coupled with the GM tools, it's pretty much the only system I need.

I'm running a hack I wrote that takes Warhammer Fantasy roleplay and Blades in the Dark and meshes them into... Something in between the two.

I also changed out the d6s for d20s so skills go from 0-16 to allow for more character growth.

It still needs some tweaking though, I'm not completely sold on the resistance mechanic.

I GMed our first session for Cyberpunk red. We're experienced 2020 GMs/players and I'm liking what I've seen so far of red. Kindaore cinematic and other roles are more important system wise. (you could make them important as GM but that meant some more work)

Currently, I am playing a Monsterhearts 2e game on Tuesday. MH is a game that started as an ironic Twilight game and became an amazing supernatural teen game. That has been going a while. I started as a Werewolf. Then, I died and became a ghost.

On alternating Mondays, I play a Fabula Ultima game and I should be running a Vampire: The Requiem 2e game. Fabula Ultima is a Final Fantasy game. It's only had one session so far but it's been going well. We should have our first Vampire game this Monday, but I might be having a rocky start as one to two players may be dropping.

I was running a Doctor Who: Adventures In Time And Space 1e game every Sunday. But circumstances changed so it's almost certainly dead. And two of those players are in my V:tR game and they aren't sure they'll be able to be in that either. So, I'm a bit bummed because I really liked that group.

I've restared a Masks of Nyalathrotep campaign that fizzled out two years ago and as a result splurged way too much on printed handouts, a fancy leather binder and a paper journal. But as a bonus, one of my players has brought true scale (1/64) minis which should fit perfectly onto printed out maps

a custom d6 system. It is a basic 2d6 plus mod system. But the stats are unique to the game and each class had a lot of care to make it feel like the ones from the games and still have usability in a ttrpg

I'm GMing a game of PTU right now! It's kind of half d20, half d6. It has probably my favorite class system I've seen in a TTRPG. LOTS of crunch, though, and combat can get very slow with lots of Pokemon, so you have to be careful how you run it

Currently in the process of doing chargen for a Mindjammer game. For those not familiar it's a far-future transhuman sci-fi RPG which uses Fate as its system. I've made myself a canid xenomorph scavenger with loyalty issues, and now I'm just waiting to see how I met some of the other characters (one of whom is playing a spaceship) before we get started!

I haven't played it before but I've played other games using Fate, so I'm looking forward to getting stuck in. It's been a while since I've had any regular RPGing in my life (my previous groups mostly fell apart during the pandemic).

Other than that, I may be playing some Lancer at some point (wish the hardcopy book was available where I live), and I'm mulling over the idea of possibly trying to run some Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4e at some point.
