They claim they may have a way to remove Glaze and Nightshade, two of the tools protecting images hosted on Cara from being used as training data. Which means right now they don’t have a way to remove it, which means Cara is still working, which I’m not implying is going to forever be true nor am I particularly informed; I just read the whole post.
I [straight] learned sometime 2015-20 that a lot of my queer friends’ friends have questions about them hanging out with me and other straight people, and that they all center around whether we are outgoing and supportive, not whether we’re bigots or anything. ‘Straight’ has become a stand in there for ‘won’t show up to events, won’t message back, won’t reciprocate’. And honestly surveying my straight friends it’s generally true; they’re monogamous and isolated in that fashion or they’re single and they’re dying a slow death on the apps or in a mediocre situationship. And they all love to stay home when invited out and they all love to talk about modern loneliness.
More recently, I also wonder if pandemic messaging about distancing also hit young people who had internalized the whole nuclear family model harder and left them alone or with 1-2 people as their entire support network, as opposed to non heteronormative people who instinctively knew they’d need to help each other out once again. I am always loathe to view the bright side and risk minimizing just how badly we let so many people down. But the lack of centralized support was a springboard for many still thriving community programs and support networks where I live.
Fuel stove, MSR Jetboil something of the sort. I use white gas and refillable canisters. Food’s faster, I’m lower impact. I love a good fire but it’s not what mother earth needs every night right now.
Fitting username. Explaining this to people irl who respect and listen to me is hard; can’t imagine trying to inform someone online who’s simultaneously trying to win the conversation you’re having
Rubber bullets are sold under the legal pretext that they’re acceptable to use in this fashion, while the manufacturer and the police department and probably every lawyer and judge in the country knows they’re just going to shoot at people.
Highly recommend the book “Doppelganger” by Naomi Klein where she talks about how weird it is to get confused with Naomi Wolf. A real feminist vs a playactor, just like how the right playacts science and reason by ‘doing their own research’ and playacts working class solidarity by showering the public with populist propaganda while shredding their legal protections
Well, they obviously do need to be fit for the job, hence Trump’s mental decline being even more concerning than his original mental state. Given the lack of fit Americans interested in enlistment you might also think a bit of leading by example couldn’t hurt. And of course, I’d hate to be a National Guard member in an administrative role sent home for optics when I didn’t need to be physically fit to perform my job.
Things cost a lot to produce. It’s cheapened by underpaying laborers and underestimating the cost and impact of resource extraction and power consumption, and the current path of massively scaling up factories, overproducing, and driving the repair economy out of business by making “just buy a new one!” so affordable really looks like The Big Thing That Ends The Current Epoch that people will really struggle to comprehend when they learn about it in history class
In what sense is he correct? It’s not because he’s not black, you’ve just cited the workaround—and it’s not like he’s a guy who takes a principled stand against nepotism. The idea of the state taking partial ownership of a company that is operating in their country also doesn’t give me too much pause, free trade is extractive—and I’m simply not sure that Elon Musk deserves that money more than someone in the South African government, lol
