A public office should not be promoting a private enterprise. That's not what tax dollars are for. Musk can pay for marketing and advertising like the rest of his competitors do.

Hopefully other nations see this cronyism and tell the US administration to stuff it.

That's not fair. Starlink is more than just a private enterprise—it's a Russian intelligence gathering mechanism.

Unfortunately that’s par for the course for any nation in capitalism. Of course it takes on special meaning given Musk’s involvement with the US administration but every capitalist nation promotes its major businesses abroad one way or another.

If Starlink was being considered as an option for a government project then I would have less of an issue.

Instead, the government is promoting and figuring out how to use Starlink. The sad part is that they are using it instead of a fiber connection.

I guarantee Starlink will be used to subvert other governments. It should not be allowed to function in ANY country, including the United States.

Starlink is kind of the peak of pollution. Not only are they launching rockets but they are also ruining the sky.

There are three simple words that every foreign national, government leader, business head, or regulatory organization need to practice and repeat to Trump any time he opens his revolting leech-mouth to demand something.

Go fuck yourself.

And if he opens his mouth again, repeat it until he stops.

This was already how all this stuff worked. The US government promotes US companies all the time. Always has.

Search for the "American Chamber of Commerce" in any county. Then look through their social media or board.

The chamber of commerce is not in any way part of the US government, but they take advantage of people who think they are. They are like a union but for rich people and corporations.

Edit: I guess you could argue they are part of the government as any other lobbying group, but that's like saying that tapeworms are just a part of pork. Probably a position the US chamber of commerce would support if they thought about it.

The board of every chamber is required to include someone from the embassy...

But I see you need something more...how do we say? Fulfilling. Yes.... Something more...yes...

I beseach you to search the interwebs for the Commerce Department Gold Key Service. Wherein a company pays to have government staff from the Commerce Department's Foreign Commercial Service, to literally shill for anyone that ponies up the cash, and organize a matchmaking service to promote the company in several small meetings.

Not enough for a distinguished gentleperson as yourself? But of course, my friend. But of course. I see you demand more.

I present to you, the most, ah- exquisite match to what you want, the FCS Single Company Promotion. A festive event in which Federal employees host the event of the company's choosing to "promote awareness" of the company. A conference? Sure. A fun luncheon presentation? Yes, of course. Or, perhaps a delightful cocktail party! Numerous of which I have personally attended.

Seriously though, this happens all the time.

I mean I'd believe you if you had a source. I think that's the fulfilling thing I'd be looking for. Here's Japan's leadership section https://www.accj.or.jp/leadership maybe someone on the board isn't here and is an embassy employee? And I mean government people on the payroll/ at parties dressed as a conference? Yeah you would have seen my edit. I acknowledge lobbying. That gold key service doesn't mention the chamber of commerce, but yeah, they are definitely in it. Of course they would be. But they are not a part of the government itself.... unless we can argue that tapeworms are a part of the pig, if the pig is lousy with them. Which is fair.

I think a better solution would be something like Freifunk

I recently learned of its existence in Germany and I love the concept
