Trump is using the military to occupy a city that hates him. He wants to deport a lot of people, but the city isn't having it so protests have emerged.
From what I've seen, four self driving taxies was burned (the car on the image) by protestors, while the police intentionally shot a news reporter, used a horse to trample a detained protestor, and has deployed marines to the streets.

It's worse than that. The waymos were originally ordered by protesters wishing to leave the area. Sheriff didn't like that, so they asked waymo directly to lock down the cars so they couldn't be used to "flee the area". Waymo complied and stranded people in the middle of this mess, and the crowd decided to help them out and express their displeasure at waymo for capitulation to the gestapo. I hope whatever insurance waymo has denies all their claims and forces them to eat the loss.

The federal agency ICE is completely captured by fascists. They are arbitrarily staging immigration crackdowns using hastily deputized agents who arrest people off the street while hiding their identity. They came to Los Angeles, a fervently anti-fascist area. It triggered massive but mostly peaceful protests, and some protestors wave Mexican flags like OP's picture.
Trump is using the protests as a pretext to claim this is an invasion, so he can mobilize the federal military against citizens. The protests are getting more chaotic (by design, since military presence is exacerbating tensions), which causes the police violence to increase, in a vicious cycle.

This is the same playbook they use. Russia do it, Germany do it, France do it, Canada do it, Israel do it.
We saw congress representatives ignoring people questions, and sometime not even showing up for meetings.
The whole idea is to represent people, but they ignore your voice.
They take your right, they ignore your peaceful protest, and then criminalize your peaceful protest, then arrest you.
When you try to resist symbolically “Thrown rock at a tank” they escalate the response and claim you are violent.
Then they tell you “should protest peacefully” so they can again ignore you and retaliate silently.
The US history is full with peaceful protest, useful protest did nothing and never done any thing useful.

Anyone who has been on the Fox News drip for the past 20 years is so unhinged that living in California is a crime to them. Asking people whose neighbors and family members have been kidnapped by the federal government to hide their heritage in their protests because it might offend people that already hate them and want them gone is ridiculous. You've got little concept of what their cause is. Their cause is "you've pushed us to the breaking point and this society is no longer worth enabling, the social contract is dead." It's not to make the liberals sad, it's to hit everyone who wants to enable the system through disruption until their grievances are acknowledged. That's always been the method of even the most peaceful of successful protest movements. The entire point is to flex political power(and I'm not talking about voting here), not hope some liberal gives them thoughts and prayers.
