Nice choice.
I sometimes listen to KEXP, I discovered it along with a lot of other interesting radios using the Garden Radio app.
My favorite is a NZ radio called Brian FM.
You're home alone, sitting down and relaxing with your favorite consumable item, be it drink, drugs, food, what have you. What are you having, and what do you put on the stereo to accompany your eveni

KEXP
Methamphetamine and cocaine in order to get nice and focused. Diet coke to keep a clean palate and provide a refresher as needed, but when the focus dies down, more meth and coke until I feel like my head is going to literally explode. While this is going on, I'm listening to Babymetal, Electric Callboy and any other party metal that gets my juices really flowing. I am relaxing, but I might clean the house also, sometimes Jesus just calls me. Eventually, it feels like I'm going to actually physically die so I decide the up cycle is over and I need to come nice and down. I take two hits of molly (which will be just fabulous in 20 minutes or so) but in the meantime, I need to take the edge off immediately, so I shoot two (fat) shots of Woodford Reserve Bourbon (typically Distiller's Select, but I'll slum on the basic stuff any day). This is the part where Pink Floyd is queued up. Typically Dark Side of the Moon, but also A Momentary Lapse of Reason, because the tears of Roger Waters fans serve to sustain me in these moments. I might also queue up some Dream Academy just to drive my love of David Gilmour home. The Molly kicks in, and I'll almost always decide it's time for a fruit and cheese board, grapes and brie, mixed nuts, apple slices and a really dry Manchego. Two more shots of Woodford and we're just starting to get comfortable. Heroin is hard(er) to come by - but if I have it, it's time to shoot it up. 10mg in .5ml suspension will be more than enough to complement the Woodford. If not, Fentanyl it is: I spin the wheel of fortune on the Mexican Percocet. Holy shit, I'm really feeling the groove now. This is where my love of 80s pop ballads kicks in. Stalwart standards like Duran Duran, Thompson Twins and Howard Jones pastiched with glam favorites like Poison, Motley Crue and Ozzy Osborne (God rest his soul). At this point I'm beginning to lose my ability to do remain conscious, and a nice glass of Merlot is absolutely necessary. The night must end with Enigma - anything off of Cross of Changes will do. If I remember anything in the morning, then I didn't do it right and I need to start over.
Oh that sounds like a good time! I don't know that I've ever had any plum liquor, but that sounds fascinating.
A dark and stormy, a joint, and an Aesop Rock record on.
That sounds like a 10/10 experience.
It does make for a pleasant and relaxing evening!
It’s been a long time since I have actually been able to do this but let me lay out a vibe for you:
I work 2nd shift which ends at 10:30 pm and I used to live in a really rough neighborhood. The kind of place where people mind their own business as a matter of safety. The kind of place where landlords don’t do inspections so everyone has a grill on their patio even though it’s against the lease.
So I would go out every single night at 11:30-midnight, light up the charcoal grill, poor myself a cocktail and spend the next hour or two cooking for myself in the quiet empty dark.
So to actually answer the question:
the food would change often but always grilled meats and vegetables. A hamburger and an ear of corn, skewered and marinated meats and vegetables with baked beans, everything you would think to pair with a steak, I even grilled cuts of fish on a salt brick a few times.
the drink would be something seasonal. In the fall I would mix burnt sugar whiskey with hot apple cider. That was my favorite.
what I listened to was always some audio horror fiction. I love music but there was just something about the fire, the moon, and the colony of feral cats that chilled with me for table scraps, that demanded I listen to ghost stories.
Bong in one hand, weed vape in the other, a can of Pepsi on the coffee table, and Suicidal Tendencies on my stereo. ST doesn't make the most out of my two subwoofers but they compliment the Pepsi quite a lot.
A craft lager, smoked gouda, tomato, lettuce with some mayo on homemade white bread, I'll start with Arvo Pärt's Spiegel im Spiegel, then a couple random Leonard Cohen, and then finish with a few tracks from Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti.
I've never smoked gouda, that shit sounds CRAZY tho.
Sounds like a lovely time! I've never heard of Arvo Pärt but I'm at least familiar with the other two haha
This might be a good piece to start, I'd say it's rather metal even! :D
This is absolutely lovely, thanks so much for sharing!
You're very welcome! Glad you like it! :D
A joint and a documentary. Probably history, nature, or mythology
Drink: Chateau St. Michelle Riesling (with ice).
Music: Jazz... tonight in honor of Chuck Mangione.
Most likely I'd be drinking some Talisker Port Ruighe whiskey while listening from The Division Bell by Pink Floyd
It's Talisker finished in Port casks. No age statement, but it's very good whisky!
Any or all, whatever makes you happiest! I can't choose either, that's why I listed all three lol
Marijuana, a nice light beer, some carne asada tacos on nice flour tortillas. As for the stereo, I'm not sure. That would largely depend on my mood that particular day. I suppose Pink Floyd would be the way to go though. Wish you were here. Maybe? Dark side of the Moon is always a good place to go too.
I've never heard anyone use the term "consumable item" outside of games.
Chana is so good, nice call! And with a beer, chefs kiss. I totally agree on the death metal, that's what I usually play when my husband's out so he doesn't have to tolerate it.
I also make (and sometimes eat) too many pancakes, so we have that in common as well.
Last night I made too much chana! The recipe said "feeds four" so I doubled it. Good thing it turn out perfect because even after feeding the whole fam we still had half a gallon leftover.
A lamp? :)
I like your moxie, kid ;)
I don't know if I have a favorite consumable. Let's see, if a drink, it could be tonic water or some homemade lemonade with tonic, or it could be bubble tea, or it could be fireball or botrytis if I'm feeling like something alcoholic.
Foods might be chocolate, ice cream, chips, cake, prosciutto, olives, blue cheese and crackers
Drugs would be mushrooms but I wouldn't consider that a relaxation companion.
I don't think I put anything on my stereo if I want to relax. Like if I did, I wouldn't have the food or drinks. I get easily overwhelmed like that. Scrap the food and drink and put carbon based lifeforms
I'd puff a few hits of the oil vape out on the porch and stick a fat prilla of swedish snus under my lip. By my side a cup of herbal chai tea or seltzer, maybe a nice beer or just still water. Throw on a record - I've got The Beatles, Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, pink Floyd, Radiohead, spoon, dr dog, the shins and a lot more!
OR turn on my ham radio for some scan and chill on the uhf/vhf repeaters where the other weirdos of my flavor chat about nerd stuff and life, trade gossip and just generally hang out at night.
I sing and dance to 'relax', lol, so perhaps romantic salsa/disco/acid jazz and a jay? 😁
I'm weird, I sit down and unwind to a bunch of data management. :( I don't really eat or drink recreationally, it's just fuel for me at this point, and I really only listen to music to fill space when driving.
I honestly enjoy a tall crisp glass of water with my relatively high end audio setup. I just pulled the trigger on some major upgrades (bigger subs, better amp, better dac). Typically listening to a broad variety (classical to norteño to thrash metal to anything sonically interesting).
Recently it's been tracks that I know really well to evaluate the setup. Not a huge Billie eillish fan but she can push bass in Xanny or Bad guy. Same with Lorde on royals. Deacon blues and Peg. Some Bubbles because all audiophiles really want to listen to is ping pong balls being dropped in the room around you. I want to pinpoint that balls location within 3 inches.
From there I typically relax enough to listen to something I actually want to bump like Angelina Aguilar or Overmono. Maybe some deafhaven.
I do like a good ipa but have been sensitive to hangovers. If anything there's a preference for a good ol left hand ciggie but that was more common when I lived in Seattle.
Most recently...
Sit down with a glass of unsweetened cold brew tea, ripping my Yocan Orbit after inserting a nice dab of a gassy live rosin, all while vibing to Akira The Don's That Golden Sound album. Chill af.
To drink: Beer if I've had a long and tiresome day. I like malty dark beers best, like stout or heather ale, but on a hot day a wheat beer is pleasantly refreshing. If I'm already in a good mood and want to really take the time to savour something, whisky (Scottish or Japanese ideally, not generally keen on Irish or American but will give things a shot). Gins and red wines are welcome. If it's earlier in the day or I don't want alcohol, I am a big fan of slowly working my way through a cafetiere of coffee
To eat: I love stuffed green olives as a snack, but when blackberries or redcurrants are in season I will grab those instead a lot of the time. Nice bread and balsamic is a strong choice too
To listen to: Very mood dependent, as music often is. Old blues standards are fantastic to really relax with. Power, black, or prog metal are great when I want to devote more attention to the music and get absorbed in the energy. Scottish and Irish folk music and adjacent rock/pop stuff is where I go for daydreaming and creativity. Jazz, other types of folk music, post-rock, and 90s/00s alt rock might be where I wander sometimes
Cheap beer, whatever beer is cheaper than water.
Which raises the question, why is beer cheaper than water?
The stereo is usually just running in my head, I've spent many months sorting through over 26,000 archived MP3s and basically memorized all the music I like.
Water you have to piss in before it gets that signature cheap beer flavor, the beer comes premade!
Weed, Takis, and something funny to watch
Some pot and Raisin Bran for the munchies. My poo sinks so hard lately!

KEXP radio, lemongrass kombucha and BBQ'ed coalho cheese (kind of like cheese curds... but different, it's a Brazilian thing).
The radio I found out about it today, despite playing a plethora of different styles, I'm quite impressed how the curation is of excellent quality.
