Ok, yes, you are correct...but how were they to know it was a bad idea before doing it?
Just because it is stunningly obvious to any person who isn't corrupt, or an idiot, that doesn't mean they were/are getting paid shit tons of cash from all their corruption and data mining!!

It's a bit like voting in the document stealing, child rapist, traitorous Russian asset Donvict tRUMP (twice). Most sane people will say it's a bad look.
However it could be pointed out that voting Reagan in (twice) was also a bad idea. Which it was.

Just because the us population keeps on making the same mistake again, and again, and aaaa-fucking-gain does that mean they need to wake the fuck up and stop being gullible fools? Who knows. It's a tricky one.

Are there any good FOSS email providers? Like...I don't want to deal with setting up my own email service, that sounds like a nightmare. I used Proton for a bit and even that got me spam filtered out of a lot of important communications.

What's a "FOSS email provider"?

An email provider that uses FOSS products under the hood but operates as a normal for-profit company?

path: 0 19157088 19157805 19159460, hotness: undefined, score: 5, children: 2

That's what I'm asking! I would assume that they would be some sort of non-profit that would operate on FOSS, but is that really even an option w/r/t security? Proton has FOSS licensing, but their backend isn't really open is it?

The OP is talking about email, and the comment I replied to was talking about open software for businesses, so I was asking for alternatives. I'm not really tech savvy enough to operate my own private email server.

Fair enough, I use webhosting with Mythic Beasts for my domain and I just decided to use their email hosting too for my domain, it's way too hard for a small player to set up their own email and be viewed as trustworthy, with all the things the big companies do - I feel you for that one.

They didn't know what they were voting for

Yes they most certainly did. Their plan was published a year before the election and was widely disseminated under the name Project 2025. Many conservatives liked the plan or knew that Democrats didn't like it and just wanted to spite them. The ones claiming they were fooled simply weren't listening to what was actually being said.

It is in all of our interests to educate them.

Have you seen how Americans treat educators? Anti-intellectualism is a driving force in this country's politics. Best idea is to cut us off as much as you can and prepare to defend your countries as we lash out in our death throes.

I'll agree that the majority of trump voters was very mislead (much like brexit voters).

At the same time, it wasn't exactly impossible to find out what they voted for, so it's their own fucking fault at the end of the day. I only feel bad for the third of the country that voted against the clown (and everyone that for any reason was unable to vote). The rest? If you can learn your lesson from this, best of luck, but don't expect any pity.

It is in all of our interests to educate them.

You can't teach someone who is unwilling to learn. Living in a rural area, I know way too many Trump supporters for my own comfort and I've never once heard anyone expressing regret over their support. Not one. They seem to continually repeat the excuse du jour presented by Leavitt, Fox or whatever conservative echo chamber they subscribe to. At this point, it's 100% willful ignorance and I've run out of optimism.

I work with big corporate in both europe and us and it has always been true in some form or another as certification is very serious at enterprise level. There's a huge boom for European software right now! Though, EU is completely fumbling the opportunity due to really poor support for small companies. Big corporations can afford to migrate and recertify etc but if you're a small european company you're totally fucked like always. European software is mostly captured by the big moat and this will not help.

Can't corroborate from my personal perspective. If anything it seems that the EU proving to be entirely toothless and fundamentally unwilling to do anything other than fold completely flat for Trump has emboldened the industry reliance on US public clouds for upcoming projects.

Now I don't work on the business side so I can't speak to exact customer pressure/feedback, but what am I supposed to say to a project manager who defaults to Azure/AWS for hosting a new product? It's more convenient and reliable than the alternatives, and there is no structural risk to that decision given that the EU would sooner get rid of the GDPR than admit that user data isn't secure on US servers.

At this point I almost feel like I should wear a tinfoil hat to suggest using an indigenous public cloud provider.

Fun fact: to get your software or service approved to be used by US government agencies wich pay nice licensing fees, your software must run self-hosted. This means on the client infrastructure, without relying on any 3rd party services from microsoft, google, amazon etc.
