The Lincoln museum in Springfield is pretty fancy. Even though much smaller. It's a smaller city. But they put some giant statue of some dude in a dad sweater out front with lincoln. Idk. It's weird. And kinda disrespectful imo.

Because the American far-right is even further to the right and more insular than the Liberals. Just because both are politically right-wing ideologies doesn't mean they are friendly with each other. Same thing happened in Nazi Germany, the fascists hated the liberals then too but the liberals still played the concession game thinking they could keep the monster tamed.

Then there is the decades of political manipulation through the shifting of the Overton Window and the Liberal establishment co-opting leftist movements by claiming they are "the left" in order to hamstring any discussion from challenging capitalist interests making things even more confusing for those who do not have enough understanding of political science to know the differences.

Here in the UK, we have the Liberal Democrats party, who are kind of centre-left. I know that in Australia, for example, their "Liberal" party is basically the equivalent of our Conservatives, i.e. centre-right to full-right. I guess I just grew up with "liberal" meaning "leftish".

Depends on your view point. From a European perspective liberalism is center right, although I'd say that the so called liberalism as discussed in the US is pretty well into the right. The whole spectrum has shifted, so I'd say that what used to be conservative talking points are now liberal talking points.

Yeah the Overton Window is pretty bad in the US.

Everything related to the welfare of others is dogmatically condemned as unfair and evil by the political right, while also continuing with US tradition of shooting down anything with the label of socialism. Centrists can't tell what's up from down and blindly accept that those policies were unfair or unnecessary. Meanwhile, informed social progressives have either moved further left or buried their heads to survive the sheer amount of propaganda that their out of touch centrist colleagues are repeating.

Everyone is exhausted except for the alt-right; who also are loving the oppression and lies that the current federal government dealing out. The media is completely captured by tech oligarchs and perpetuates the propaganda by framing it as the only way to think.

It's not hard to see why things are the way they are given that its a coin toss between people who follow whatever source of truth is easiest and those who are invested in finding their flavor of truth.

people conflate 2 kinda of liberal: liberal is the same root word as liberty, libertarian: liber, which basically means free

economic liberal (like the australian liberal party) means free from government interference in business/economy. it’s basically libertarian

socially liberal means free from government interference in your life (ie liberty; government says nothing about lgbtqi+ unless it’s about protecting you from discrimination)

in the US in particular “liberal” has tended to means socially liberal (at least in how they campaign) but neoliberal economically (pro big business)

socialism is actually diametrically opposed to economic liberalism
