Yeah, there's nothing wrong with don't wanting to jump off a bridge into a river - you can't see how deep the river is at that spot, and its extra dangerous if the rivers are carrying as little water as they do now, because the riverbed is not flat, there may be rocks a meter or two below the waterline and that'd be it. Every year people die jumping head first in natural waters they don't know in and out.

That's why you check your landing before you jump. Even if you think you can see bottom, get in the water and scope about a 20'/7m diameter around your target jump site, diving down to find any rocks, logs, etc.

Ya, my town has few good spots for cliff/bridge jumping. Every decade or so some kid dies. If it seems stupid, it probably is. Don't do it.
