Reddit is really one of the most ridiculous community I have ever seen. So I moved here

a month ago by Idontwanttowork to c/reddit

Really what the hell.....

They ban all of your accounts immediately, at the moment that your speech doesn't confine to their disney worldview.

I am truly done ....

Also, those dictator mods also won't accept any kind of negotiation or offers further explanation.

Uqsually I can't open a god damn post without modified it a millions time. I can't even use AI to fine tune my language (because English is not my first language).

Fucking hell

Welcome! Glad you made it.

Just so ya know, unpopular opinions can still get you downvoted heavily, and some mods that don't like what you say can remove comments or ban you from their communities. However, no single person can ban you from Lemmy or the Fediverse so you've got to go out of your way to piss off a lot of people to become persona non grata here.

That said, we rely on each other to keep comment quality high, so that's what I hope you're here for. Have a nice time.

Thanks, at least I can open this post.

It would be impossible on Reddit to do that.

We are the Reddit outcasts. We must band together because of the war between the two platforms. It is not about numbers. It is about quality.

Nah, I didn't even know about Tesseract until they made a stink. I'm just someone annoyed by the witch hunting that admins let run rampant. I think it's a real shame that one of the few people actually contributing to fedi accessibility was bullied into silence by the same broken people who make lemmy so repellent in the first place.

We would rather have your native language, or your best attempt at English, than for you to be represented by AI slop.

No judgment.

Unless you use AI. Then all the judgment.

That's fine

It just seems to me (a person who use english as a second language) that the english of AI translation seems less broken lol.

But well ...... English is not my first language afterall, if the native speaker thinks it's better not to use the translation, may be it is truly better.

Hi and welcome! Everyone is different and while I don't think anyone is going to run you off the platform for using AI for translations (at least I'd hope not), I'm also at the point where I don't mind slightly broken English/ grammatical mistakes, at least that way I know it was written by a human.

As a native speaker, your English is perfectly serviceable (it can't be any worse than some of the professors I had in college, I promise!).

For good reasons! (This is a spoiler, click it to reveal the rest of the message)
  1. Simply using an AI that's run on a corporate data centers encourages the construction of yet more data centers, with all of the environmental/climate negatives they bring, as well as local harms they induce on the people living near them, such as increased electricity rates.

  2. Using corporate AI directly helps the financial situations of those giant corporations (by boosting usage/user numbers, they are able to attract more investment capital), most of which are ran by right-wing CEO's who are more than willing to collaborate with and fund fascist governments to ensure that they are not regulated in search of both maximum profits. Some of these companies, such as Nvidia, Palantir and Oracle, genuinely appear to be seeking to use these tools for what would previously be considered crackpot conspiracy theory levels of public control and surveillance.

  3. I'm wary of the potential effects of AI usage resulting in declining or stagnating critical thinking based on some preliminary studies (example 1, example 2).

  4. I do not think LLM's can be "just a tool" as many claim.

  5. 99% of LLM's (the ones virtually everyone use) are trained on copyrighted code that is incompatible with GPL licensed projects. LLM's have a 3 to 10% chance to unknowingly reproduce the copyrighted code perfectly, introducing legal plagiarism into an open-source project, which could easily open up the developers to being sued in the future if companies scanned open source repos for copyright violations.

  6. Many courts are ruling that LLM generated code cannot be copyrighted at all, meaning that it also cannot be legally made GPL, losing the protections from corporate exploration the GPL normally grants. https://fsfe.org/news/2026/news-20260825-01.html

My only issue with Reddit banning me is that a lot of tech questions and discussions still happen there - and with a banned account it's nigh impossible to take part in the discussion or message people about their question.

Don't expect all views to go unchallenged here, there are still rules here.

But yes, I found Reddit to be bad for censorship of opinions that the mods don't like. I found this most egrarious when it came to shadow bans - no clarity at all why you may be banned from a community.

All social media suffer from this but it feels like Reddit has become very overtly protective of commercial interests over free speech and discourse. And on top of that they take ownership of your words and sell those to AI companies and google. Users make the content and Reddit exploit it for money and expect users to be grateful.

Bear in mind Lemmy is not a single platform - different servers and communities will have different rules and different expectations of behaviour from their users. So you may still be banned from certain communities. To a degree you have to just accept that.

I will give it a try.

I find getting banned is ofcourse frustrating. But the more frustrating is getting banned over very small things or due to extremely subjective standards of the mod.

The thing that I dislike most is that, now most subreddit will tell you to read the rule, and say that it's the first and only warning. But many of the rules are subject to the interpretation of the mods.

medievalistdruid 6 points a month ago

Years ago I disagreed with a conservative mod and got banned from their subreddit. Months later I had forgotten all about it and I comment on a post from that subreddit with a new account, because the post was recommended in my timeline.

Because of that I was banned site-wide for ban evasion. I didn't even break any other rules, I didn't spam or harass or threaten anyone, I posted no links, nothing, just commented on a sub I forgot I was banned from. I also didn't know you had to appeal on the banned account or the ban would stay forever, so ai naively deleted my account and made a new one.

Ever since then every account I make gets banned or shadowbanned within a month. And I've switched devices, emails, everything, and nothing works because they also track how I write and what subs I typically interact with, plus my wifi networks. No attempts to appeal on other accounts have ever worked. And if you search for posts about ban evasion bans, everyone treats it as something that is always justified and that only bad people do. That was well over four years ago.

So basically, Reddit doesn't want its users.

path: 0 25836049, hotness: undefined, score: 6, children: 2
Idontwanttowork 1 point a month ago

Tbh, I don't even want to try ban evasion, they don't worth my time and effort anymore.

Those mods see themselves as god or something like that.

I don't know what's the point, when I have to fine tune my wordings multiple times before making a simple post.....

They do, and sometimes it's the AI that bans you because it didn't take the context of your comment in consideration. I only keep my shadowbanned reddit account to access some information there, but these days I'm mostly here and on tumblr.

You generally get banned for any suggestion of violence no matter how facetious or sarcastic. For example I was banned once for telling someone to fix their bicycle they just had to ride along at a good pace and place a stick through their spokes (it was a really dumb question or something).

My guess is they don't want bad data for the AI training going forward.

Reddit was good 15 years ago. So I to, shifted over here. And well it actually feels more like how reddit was. I think that the worst thing about reddit, other than advertising cancer, was the bot downvotes. I don't care if I get a downvote, but it should be required to write a response for a comment downvote.

Welcome, as others said you can't get universally banned here even if you can still get banned here or there. Also don't mind the voting around here too much, there's no persistent karma to worry about (even though one could theoretically calculate it up, you can track history).

Speaking of which, you can also see how others voted and a few other things. It's an open system full of weird nerds so tools exist for all sorts of things.

Lastly, you will see a culture shift, the most unique of which is a strong tankie presence (2/3 of which is censored on World) but also other things. AI, as noted, is fairly negative (there are spaces for it, but be mindful of instance cultures). Honestly I think deepL and stuff is generally accepted, though? As are other more regular translation tools. I like your English though, honestly.

Yeah! I was banned without any notice or reprimand! No communication. It's just that when I create a new post, it is deleted/removed immediately by the "Reddit filters"! I tried to delete my account today because there is no use staying in Reddit when I cannot interact with users in the subs that I subscribe! When I submitted the Delete Account form, that is being blocked too!

Oh, there's disagreements all the time, but the reality is, the fediverse is so vast and bot-free that one cannot stay angry for so long that it becomes poisonous.

You can get snippy with someone than find a different community where there's something really funny or a fantastic music recommendation and the frustration just melts away.

As to AI, for me, it depends.. Generative AI that is used to create a falsehood - like videos of police being attacked by protesters or political people saying things they did not.. no thank you... AI videos made by creators who want to tell stories on a budget, like Gossip Goblin.. the stories from the Second Cycle of Humanity.. those are amazing.
