What is the worst movie you've ever seen?

Hands down, for the production money that went into it, The Hobbit trilogy.

This is the only movie series that legitimately made me mad. The book seemed so simple to adapt to the screen. Just follow the book, with a little cut out to help with screen time, and watch the money roll in. Instead, we got one of the worst book adaptations Hollywood's ever seen.

Super hard for me to answer, because I almost exclusively watch good movies that I know I'll like.

Elektra and Daredevil come to mind.

Also Avatar. Amazing visually, but with the tritest of stories and 1 dimensional characters. I was so bored by the end of it.

So it's actually impossible for me to have seen this movie, because it wasn't made and definitely doesn't exist, but The Last Airbender. I'm glad it doesn't actually exist, because if it did, then it would have been made by M. Night Shamalamadingdong and would have been some of the worst cinema ever created. Should this movie have actually existed, it would have been a sophomoric and badly made disaster with some of the worst writing, action, special effects, pacing, acting and a complete misunderstand of the source material.

If I were to have pirated it and watched it, I would still want a refund.

But that never happened, because there is no movie in Ba Sing Se.

For the life of me I can’t understand this. It doesn’t even make sense from a business perspective. Like, yes people will pay to see this movie no matter what but that good will will dry up eventually. Any amount of effort to have made these movies legitimately decent would have paid off vastly in the long run. It just seems utterly bizarre that Disney would just YOLO this shit and stand around as their golden goose is slowly strangled for what ever gold flakes they can pick out of the shit

I don't watch very many movies and this might be a controversial answer but the Hunger Games (at least the first movie, I've only seen the first one). It actually took me a whole month to watch it because the first time I tried to watch it, I fell asleep about 5 minutes in and I had to build up the mental fortitude to actually finish watching it. And it took me a total of three sittings to watch because I didn't have any connection to the story or the characters at all. I think I also remember the second half of the movie being actually good (not great, just good) but nothing really notable happens in the first half.

I think if they gave less time to the back story of the characters and focused more on the hunger games portion, it might have been fine.

How bad was it, you ask. Well, I would have left the cinema but my girlfriend was sleeping soundly and I didn't want to disturb her. Honestly, people were just looking at each other after the movie was over, openly laughing and talking to strangers about how bad it was. I remember the movie really ramping up towards unconventional things, and then ending in disappointingly conventional ways. “And then the son with whom they got separated to a near-certain death is alive after all, and they find each other and get reunited.”

Also, as has been discussed to death at the time, the absolute lack of build-up towards the resolution, which leaves it with a taste of “wait, so why exactly did I watch what happens to this bunch of randos?”

I have nothing against people who liked it, but the final act felt like such a let-down compared to the beginning and middle of it, that I can’t really remember it positively.

In fairness, the book was like that also. Not that the movie was much like the book in other ways.

The original book just sort of follows the protagonist along as he witnesses the Martians wreak havok on humanity until all the tripods die at the end.

It's a weird plot device to keep, considering they didn't keep much of the original story.

It's like they half made the film and then got bored with it so they just said something like "and then all the aliens went away the end" with no real explanation or conclusion. I don't remember what exactly happened because obviously I've never wanted to rewatch it but I remember it really was something that cheap. All the time invested in it felt like it had gone to waste because there was no proper conclusion.

So, I've been complaining about this film for long enough that I've heard the source material argument before. I've not read the original book but just conclude that either A: the book really did end like the film, in which case it was never worthy of making a film about, or B: the book had a better, more nuanced ending which wasn't captured by the film. Either way it's a terrible film that wasted my time!

I watched the original Japanese film later and realized the missed important plot points that were vital to the story. Also it was neutered from a R rated Takashi Miike film to a boring pg-13 horror film. On the bright side it introduced me to Takashi Miike and I've been a fan ever since.

Oscar (1991)

My wife and I walked out on that one. I can't understand how it got a 6.5 on IMDB.

Virus Shark (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-aTRpXAP8A) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13785940/)

This movie is really really awful. ALL of the actors and actresses are so bad, it's not even good ironically. Just awful. I really don't mind B-Movies with a limited budget, as there are some out there, which are not bad. But this one in particular? The (badly made) rubber shark is a more convincing actor than any of the other protagonists of the movie. This movie is acted out so poorly that any movie you can watch on Sci-Fi are Hollywood quality in comparison. I dare you to watch the whole movie!

Mandy with Nicholas Cage takes the cake for me but it's so bad it's good. If I were going for just bad, it would probably have to be the last airbender movie...

Enemy with Jake Gyllenhaal is up there for me too, because FUCK that movie.

I remember seeing Mandy in theaters with my college dorm mates, and I will never forget how bizarre that experience was. I was in the mood for something more serious, but I should have known they would select something like that

I think calling Mandy so bad it's good is a massive misread of what Mandy was trying to do. It's a funny, over-the-top movie at a lot of points, deliberately.

Yeah, I'm just saying it's not bad, deliberately or otherwise. It's deliberately a lot of things that you're parsing as bad but work for, idk, certainly the vast majority of people who watched it, critics and audiences alike.

What's wrong with Enemy? It's honestly one of my favorite movies.

It's overly artsy fartsy for me. I didn't "get it" and when the metaphor was explained to me I was disappointed. The spiders made no sense to me initially, and when I learned what it was supposed to be, it felt like garbage nonsense from planet bullshit.

Tough question. But i think it's "in fabric". It's just weird stuff happening.

This is an unconventional answer but stick with me:

The Bruce Willis Death Wish remake.

Movies are well known to have a so-bad-it’s-good factor. Aside from watching something made with passion fail, sometimes a failing movie can be mildly elevated by having an interesting choice or concept. Maybe a single actor who is really giving a go and creates a memorable scene.

Death Wish has none of that. It is a flatline of a movie. Nothing is ever done with passion, nor is it ever entertainingly incompetently. The entire movie is nothing but bare minimum technical competence. There are no bizarre plot twists, no unique action, no nothing. It simply exists.

We wanted something to entertain the kids while we got everything set up for dinner, and we find this. The kids seemed to enjoy it, but they're not the most reliable movie critics.

I used to have a crush on the Olsen twins and I made it through some unbearable films back in the early 2000s. I could tell "Getting There" and "When in Rome" were truly awful even though I was a wee teenager. Luckily they stopped making films shortly thereafter.

I've only walked out of 2 movies because they were so bad, and this is over 4 decades of being a pretty avid movie goer. Short Circuit 2 and 300. Just unwatchable and I don't have high standards.

Copper Mountain starring Jim Carrey. Basically a promo music video for some country band with skiing "action sequences" and some not funny impersonations. I have it just to show others the worst movie in existence.

Right? I really wanted to leave midway but my friends were there too. I'm a big fan of surrealist literature but that movie just couldn't do it for me.
