They could get a crew van, fit more in it, and still fit in a standard parking spot.
Probably also quite a few thousands of dollars cheaper.
Fuck you, vans are gay and you're stupid cuck. /s
That said, I recently saw a guy that bucked the trend and pimped his family van instead of going full truck. Lowered suspension, wider wheels, hot vinyl and a spoiler. Looked pretty good tbh.
So like custom conversion vans in the 70s and 80s?
I guess I'm old enough to remember when vans were cool. ๐ญ
Yeah. Don't recall whether it was, I think it was a Sienna.
I thought the same, but there may be a very specific combination of conditions where this could make sense: bad roads where ground clearance is needed, no sharp curves that require shorter wheel base, need to take 8 people and need to take their tools/materials. but probably they did just because they could
Honestly, those conditions sound like pretty much exactly what I'd expect working oil in Alberta, and given the cost to make that horrific of a modification, it wouldn't suprise me if it was something used for work.
It also would not suprise me if it was some jerk with more money than sense, esspecially as this wouldn't necessarily conflate with the first.
given the cost to make that horrific of a modification, it wouldn't suprise me if it was something used for work.
Yeah this seems way too expensive to not have a specific use. I would assume this vehicle needs to transport 6+ people and also a bunch of stuff. There are plenty of vanity trucks you can buy without customizing a third seating row, that's easily a 6-figure job.
It's really not that bad, cab n chassis frame for a 12 foot deck, put a box on, find a wrecked truck with a 4 door and cut off the rear section. A good body guy can pull this off cheaper than you'd think....if you started with a 5 year old quad cab and chassis and a wrecked from front end damage rear of cab fine body and box, you could get it done price of a new truck, remember new trucks are 150 grand in Alberta now, full load.
Please.
I'm from Alberta. This is just big dick energy.
Besides, there are 4x4 crew vans with lift kits that the oil sands mines use to address the issues you're talking about. Those are most certainly cheaper than this monstrosity, and if it was a work thing he'd have to have company decals on it.
You probably meant small dick energy.
No ground clearance on van, gona get stuck in the mud. less payload on van, can't just drop a skid of what ever or extra long things like hydraulic cylinders into a van with out akward fucking around. less tow capacity on van, notice the tow bar on the back... What are you gona put a welder, diesel cans, gas cans, pales of hydraulic oil for equipment/ slip tanks, pumps and what not into the van too with the occupants? What about the greasy and oily ass clothes. Throw em in the van too? So they stain and fill the cab with VOCs?
This is a purpose built one off, and alot of you are out of touch with how work gets done. Not evey job is hauling standard 8x4 drywall. Alot more trades work than just slinging plaster around.
This is totally a male enhancement device due to the lift and frame length. It's weak in the frame and real regular off-road use will crack it.
It's a fucking joke just like the joke that drives it. "Look at me! I'm such a tough manly manchild. My beard is huge and I listen to country music even though I've never owned a cow and live in the suburbs."
Real working 4x4/dually trucks tend to be factory height (little higher than factory rear wheel) as you don't want to lift heavy shit higher than you have to. They're also beat to hell because they do real work.
I guess you also didn't notice the tow bar in the back. Huh. Trucks tend to sit high. So when you load them the truck levels out. Instead of squatting down in the rear. Also I don't know if this truck is a legit tow truck but if it is, say you had a family of 5 or 6 are on a road trip in your grand caravan. Get into an accident with a dumb shit wild deer/fucking phesant/ windigo w/e or brake down cause budy guy at the last gas station was dumping a bit to much home brew corn gas in the tanks. A regular tow truck fits only 4 people. Plus driver. So now you got to wait for another veichle. Out there shits so remote that could be 30 min or 2hrs depending on the stretch of road. Now you got this pigfugly monster. Your Pacifica/oddesy/Siena is on the hook. You and your family are all in the warm cab and no one is freezing. Because it's January. Yeah I forgot to mention it January in Alberta -30ยบC
Comments like this are so ridiculous. Do you really think nothing ever gets build in Europe because people use vans and buses instead of emotional support vehicles? Canada is just another country, not fucking Mars
Didn't you get the memo, Canada is often colder than the martian equator. 95 percent of the canadian population lives in greater toronto, the lower mainland of BC, and a couple other cities. The other 4 million people live in an area almost as big as russia.
Vehicles like this one are fairly common in the Alberta oil industry areas, and while they are overbuilt, they're driving on roads that are worse than the ones through the old Bundeswehr training areas around Munster...if you took a Volkswagen transporter to a job site there, first you'd rip off the exhaust system, quickly followed by snagging the suspension components on something.
Here's a picture taken of an oilfield truck from Montana. (Sorry for the r link.)
Hey dipshit there are only 4 places in the world that have oil sands. Canada, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Venezuela. So ther is no need for shit like this in Europe. Also the natural resource exploration pales in comparison to the rest of the world. Because Europe imports most of their natural resources from places that use "emotional support veichles". Also in europe, more often then not your job site isn't going to be 500km+ away from your origin. I've been in a many vans, fuck if I'm going to sit in a cramped ass tin can for 8hrs listening to road noise on an uncomfortable ass captains chair. When I can just sit in my lazy boy recliner in a quiet cab where I don't have to yell to talk to guy beside me.
You seriously going to tell me this thing was "purpose-built" for anything more than luxury for the occupants? There are vastly more efficient ways to accomplish anything this thing can do, the only difference is that there's a tiny bit less legroom. Literally every single one of those things can be accomplished with a modified/lifted van and maybe a trailer.
he doesn't disagree, he notes it's still bad but that might explain what we're seeing here, kind of.
Nope. Required to have 4 wheel drive, and a diesel motor, for pipeline or drilling rig work. No gasoline or propane engines, greater explosion risk. Vans really, really suck off road, I have both a pickup and a van, both chevy, both old, both 2wd. There is no comparison between the truck and van off road or dirt roads, even though same powertrain. Ones a pavement princess. Now, a Suburban diesel 4x4 almost fits the bill, but no box for carrying whatever tools you need to take to the rig, or a welder.
As someone who drove a 4 wheel drive van 20 plus years ago, you are talking nonsense.
As someone who lives in Ab and also has had to drive to a few camps, you are talking extra nonsense. I used an all wheel drive car and helped pick up the plastic shit that falls off all the trucks on site, since they are shit.
This thing is just a dick extension.
I am literally telling you about oilfield policy and regulations, but sure, go off, anyone who actually knows can see who is making a fool of themselves right now. Yes, you can sometimes take other things on site, but there is a requirement to have at least one 4x4 pickup and the diesel requirement is real. 20 years ago is 20 years ago, I used to use a 2wd chevy 3/4 ton gasser too.
In Canada? I'm speking from my brief time in ontario - they have busses but public transport lines aren't all nicely interconnected.
also, swed nyet
okay hold on, do other countries not have buses that aren't operated as public transport? do hockey teams in canada take a whole fleet of cars to matches or do they just fly for half an hour?
here in sweden at least it's completely standard to just buy or rent a bus when you have like 8+ people who need to go somewhere.
they're operated as public transport, it's just that lines aren't well connected.
it's nowhere near as viable to rely on public transport in north america as it is in europe.
Crew? Naw. They drive their own rigs.
But someone who has a poor understanding of birth control because god said so, yes.
all aboard the petrolsine!
you might be on to something!
i mean yeah, probably? lol
don't get it twisted, I'm not defending this monstrosity
Your friend makes love to cars. Here, they fuck them.
I mean he drives because you don't have a lot of choice out there, but he's also agrees with the "fuck cars" of it all.
Same here.
I'm keeping my hopes up that this thing would not be street legal in my country.
It is. Stuff like this is usually built on a "cube van" factory extended cab n chassis frame, where the normal pickup box would fit on, bolt up like factory, but leave a 2 or three foot gap between a normal cab and the front of the box.
It seems to be too long. I doubt it would be road legal here. And if it was, by some absurd event, it would probably fall under C category, which is for heavy load vehicles. It would not be something someone would park in a supermarket parking lot.
AfaIk, to put a vehicle into category car (class B) or truck (class C/C1), its length doesn't matter. The only important factor is the maximum permitted total mass, which is 3.5 t for a 'car' or 7.5 t for a light truck (C1) or 'unlimited' for a regular truck (C).
Essentially, this the limiting factor here to be considered as class B 'car': As the empty mass of that vehicle is probably quite large, it's subsequently not permitted to be loaded with noteworthy amount of freight, to remain below 3.5 t, perhaps not even the 5 people that would fit inside.
Thus, if it's not completely hoax, it only is allowed to be driven by those that have a C1 licence, which is either professionals or, e.g. in Germany, older people who've had that included in their 'class 2' licence.
"Semi trailer" actually refers to the trailer itself, not the tractor. a "full trailer" has it's own steer axle, think like a hay wagon. a "semi trailer" has it's steer axle provided by the tractor pulling it. a "cart trailer" is like 2 wheeled buggies put half the weight on the propulsion device, often a horse. Anyways, when people say "semi truck", they either don't know or are referring to the fact of what it pulls, not itself....use it to pull anything else and it is no longer a "semi tractor"
Trucks actually started selling more when the first started mimicing the looks of semis. I think dodge was one of the first to adopt that mindset which was basically everything on the front end gets bigger.
How many bananas tall is Doug?
Is it custom or actually sold?
Ah yes the Ford F9000 Pedestrian Pulverizer
Too much truck, not enough dick, as they say.
Slide under the midpoint with a battery powered angle grinder or a sawzall and cut 3/4 of the way through one side of the frame. Then you just let physics do the rest when they hit a good hard bump.
Xanthan gum and muriatic acid will make a nice corrosive paste that might do the trick if you're into edging with your sabotage.
Nitrile gloves, thicker the better. It will break them down but it will take a while. The fumes are chlorine gas, but aren't that bad if you're outside. What you really have to watch out for is getting it in your eyes, wear goggles.
Baking soda will neutralize it, so you might want a gallon of water and some baking soda on hand. It will burn your skin if you leave it on you, but it takes a minute and you have time to just wash it off.
Paint brush would be a good way to apply it.
Nitrile, thickness ยฝ mm, should last you about an hour.
Stanz: It was all fine until dickless parked his truck. Mayor: Is that true? Venkman: Yes, this man has no dick.
I've been saying Canada is just Diet US. Credit where it's due, they elected the lesser dumbass. Also, healthcare. Good on y'all. Obviously Canada is better than the US but my fellow Americans act like it's the promised land or something. The cost of living is still to damn high, and they still have the same right-wing populist idiots we have. Also, I get our bills and coins suck. Dead old white man and all but how is the fucking royals supposed to be better? I think fascist monarchs are way worse. To any Canadians offended by this, please don't be. It was not my intent to offend you and I very much realize I am throwing stones from a glass house here. Love you guys!
I was diagnosed with cancer last year. I am now cured. Cost to me, $0.
my fellow Americans act like it's the promised land or something.
So do lemmy Canadians.
I've been saying this. Honestly, if the US ever goes full 1930s-Germany they're going to be our Poland. I wouldn't even want to move there if I have to leave, at least not long-term.
Oh "we" didn't. Carney is right there on camera with the Maxwell/Epstein/Trump/Clinton set, dudes sister in law is Ghislaine's best friend, connected to British nobility, cousin to our previous prime minister, the whole "conspiracy" is on the fucking wikipedia pages about them. I haven't had health insurance in 9 years. It's provincial, not federal, despite my countrymen that think it's a "right" because of rhetoric, not reality.
SIR! PUT DOWN, AND STEP AWAY FROM THE WELDER AND NO ONE NEEDS TO GET HURT!!!!
Does canada have really lax limo safety laws? i recall hearing about stretch SUVs in the US that killed like entire friend groups during prom in the US because there's absolutely no regulation of these things in some places.
I've seen some pretty extreme limos in Alberta. But I also recall people having problems getting registration with extreme limos coming from the US. So it seems to be a bit willy nilly. It varies by province.
The Schoharie limousine crash
No these are modified. Last time I saw a vehicle like that it was a Mormon family out camping with their 17 kids
Edit: honestly if youโve got a giant family and youโre basically a half a busload of people everyplace you go, thatโs pretty much the ideal best use case for a private car.
Same with this picture โ if somebody felt the need to pay $$$$$ for extending the truck, theyโre probably actually using that space for something productive and not just driving it around empty. Iโm way more mad about the incredible waste of every suburban individual having their own heavy duty cargo hauler for daily chores that donโt need it, then I am about modified special-purpose vehicles doing a job.
[โฆ] honestly if youโve got a giant family and youโre basically a half a busload of people everyplace you go, thatโs pretty much the ideal best use case for a private car. [โฆ]
Wouldn't some kind of van be more practical? Perhaps they wanted both a van and a pickup truck, but they didn't want/couldn't afford 2 separate cars, so they just melded the two together?
There's some family in the area I live in which owns a full length van and has a stick family sticker that has probably about 10? kids in it. I've never seen it at a time that I can count but it's more kids than I can eyeball and tell you how many on the stick family
I didn't know they made buses with a cargo bed.
At first I thought this was here because of how stupid and obscene this truck is. This just SCREAMS "my penis is 1 inch, and I'm insecure". It gets a whole 30 feet to the gallon!
Then I noticed the park job. This is the type of park job I'd intentionally smash with the shopping cart, on my way to return my cart to those little cart return cages.
This guy is an asshole. Plain and simple. Yes, fuck the truck too, because it shouldn't even exist, but aldo fuck this guy in particular. I hope a meteor falls from the sky, crushes the back half of his truck into a pancake, and otherwise doesn't cause any injuries or harm.
My dude I think you need help. There are legitimate reasons for a six seater with a bed. Not in my use case and, as I can see by your response, definitely not in yours.
While personal vehicles used for transportation are largely against logic, there are industrial uses for a truck like that.
there are no industrial uses for a truck like this, you do not need a lifted 6-seater with an open bed for anything other than satisfying a need for attention.
you could maybe invent a highly specific usecase where this would be convenient, but that scenario is going to be a fantasy that doesn't apply to reality.
I used to see that one (or a reasonable hand-drawn facsimile)all the time when I lived there. I thought it was just an Edmonton-themed limousine.
It goes up to 11.
Valve stim remover
Taken from about here.
Drove all the way up there from Texas?
I would not say common, but they certainly exist. I've only seen maybe a couple in person here in, let's say the very central U.S. There are no factory produced trucks like that as far as I'm aware, these are all (very expensive, I'm sure) aftermarket or custom conversions, on top of the already $60k-100k truck.
This person is truly ashamed of their self.
That when his compensation isn't just small, it's inverted
Mmmm looks comfy
Edit: it does not look comfy. It looks like youโll feel every single bump and rut twice - once when the front hits it and again when the back hits it.
Keep some gel deodorant in your purse or backpack and put it on the car door handles of people who park like this.
It's just deodorant in gel form instead of solid or liquid. It gets all over the offender's hands and is stinky, a little gross, and hard to remove.
But it also doesn't damage anything, so in the end, it's just a harmless prank in response to someone parking like a jerk.
Slimy hands.
Stretch-650
Somebody needs to take a long, hard look at their short, stubby dick, and get real.
I don't think so. The dirt coming down from the handles is very consistent with rain on a vehicle after driving through the dry Alberta dust areas. I don't see anything particularly inconsistent with a custom stretch job here. They'd need a way bulkier frame under a stretched truck like this, and the extra height is consistent with a tall frame and lift.
Edit: sorry for the bad site, but here's a 3 year old picture of another stretched dodge for you to compare with: https://www.reddit.com/...
It has twin tires which are connected at the wheel hub. You can see the nuts around the hub.
Only inconsistency I see is around the tailgate with the tow setup, specifically the blurry corner of the sedan's body panel behind it, probably a rain drop on the glass in front of the camera.
Edit: also see https://liftandtow.com/products/z-series/
You can see the front drive shaft dropping down, and it looks like you can see it starting the downward run in the back too.
I've seen all sorts of mods for off-road vehicles to "tuck up" the driveline when they do their body lifts and larger tires. Also very common on pickup truck daily drivers in Alberta, especially around the oil sands area.
Edit: Compare with this picture of a different, lifted, dodge pickup: 2015 lifted ram 2500
Shitty mod ez. Have you lived around these vehicles? Either this AI is incredibly good or you've just made up your mind.
I'm not here to defend AI but jacketing leads to some dark places. Living in these places you could easily find this stuff in the wild. The simple answer is low quality camera, rainy day in the regions where Safeway exists. This would take pages of prompts and so so so much time/effort to get AI to produce this quality.
Some phone cameras do something like that, especially if the lens are dirty.
https://www.kingseriespickup.com/
https://www.f650pickups.com/augusta.html
https://stretchmytruck.com/...
6-door pickups are very much a thing.
I don't think it's fake, just look at the last door; it's the dry/dirty spot below the handle is a different shape which tells me it isn't just a copy/paste of another one. The center door window is also narrower than the others, to accommodate the additional pillar that would be needed for the structure.
Plus it (probably) wouldn't be centered in 4 parking spaces if it wasn't that long. Normal length trucks take up 2 spaces at most, if the driver is an asshole. It's very possible, if expensive, to modify a truck like that. You've seen a limo right? Same concept.
My guess is this is for the oil fields in some way since you could get a crew into one vehicle.
Never the less the fact that they choose a pickup truck when they could have had a really sweet off road van is depressing. You can't account for taste I guess.
......what?

my friend from ontario says:
"This might be for folks who work on oil rigs (Edmonton is close to several), a vehicle like this means they can travel as a full crew. It's still terrible but that might explain it."
