Truly the best years

Best and worst at the same time. Very difficult to navigate, sensorily overwhelming, frequent suicidal thoughts,... but life-changing encounters and a freeing irresponsibility I'll never eperience again

I do have ptsd from school though, and not just high school. Just approaching a school, hearing the unmistakable rumor of hundreds of children, the ring of a bell.... it gives me the bΓ ti-bΓ ti, cold sweat, I need to flee.

Not adhd here (still ND) but yes school will always count as the worst time of my life (and it's been a long time)

I don't know. I'd still rather be back at school and not have to deal with the adult realization of just how fucked everything is. My high school was so big that everyone just gets lost in the crowd outside of your friend group.

Fuck no.
Compared to school, I love going to my workplace.

catholic high schools would be cool if only they weren't catholic and also they weren't high schools.

Happily I was so oblivious it was mostly okay, only because at the time I didn't realize how mean everyone was being so they gave up.

i just pretended not to notice and they stopped. it is a surprisingly effective coping strategy.

It is my sincere hope that times have changed for the mental health of teens.

The overall concept that it's normal for highschoolers to be morose, melancholy, disaffected, and depressed, effectively masked some actual real problems myself and others were having. At least, that was the overarching attitude at the time.

If nothing else, the burgeoning awareness around neurodivergence gives me hope that people are getting accommodations and the support they need. Even if it's only from their peers.

Edit: Oh, and the fact that society is trauma-bonded to the tune of repeated nightmares about locker combinations, attending class naked, and not knowing the location of you next class, etc., is worrysome. Trauma shouldn't be normalized and, IMO, suggests that something is fundamentally wrong with what we put people through at school.

Grad school was the best years. Mostly people who actually wanted to be there and learn and interact.

High school was miserable because everyone around me was so stupid and unmotivated. College was a lot of that too, but slightly better in that at least some folks were smart and motivated, instead of virtually nobody.

i loved the actual educational process of grad school but if we're talking about the people, i've got logical family chosen from all along my life. i don't want to denigrate any group of people just because the institution was lower. like shit, even my attitude toward education was awful in high school. i didn't start to grow up until my second semester of college.

i'm ND. i have a weird take because i got on the path to becoming significantly disabled right after high school, and i was able to do some really interesting things in high school. i look very fondly back on high school as it's the last time i was anything approaching healthy.

that said, i did have fun, but trying to stop me from having fun is like trying to stop the pope from shitting in the woods.

I'm turbo 80HD and had a great time in most if not all of my schooling. Mainly had trouble with school work but socially it was fun.

Aside from the gender dysphoria I was trying to suppress, I mostly liked high school. Lack of responsibilities, no debt, and spending time with friends every day.
