Boycotts don't stop EA money. They have superbowl ad money. The market of consumers that really just don't give a shit about this is way too large, and they will go with what's advertised to them constantly.

I'm not saying don't boycott them. I have for decades. I've preached that for decades. It doesn't work, the AAA dev is going to still have the main stage during every gaming convention and there will still be some weird ass overnight line to be the first one to buy corporate slop game 2026.

This basically describes society as a whole. The lowest denominators of society, at least 60% of the population , dictate how all of us live and die. That's why things like Facebook exist. That's why we let billionaires exist. That's how people like Trump become leaders of the free world. That's why we allow the "lobby" to make laws that only benefit a small group. Eradicate the idiots to solve all the worlds problems 😆

Financially BF6 was a smash hit.

Within a month of release it was a disaster. Player base plummeted because of the bait and switch they pulled, the bugs, and the lacklustre season passes, skins, and roadmap. One of the all time fumbles.

path: 0 25049783, hotness: undefined, score: 39, children: 7
foggenbooty 36 points 3 months ago

And yet, people bought it. I may sound like an old fart, but Battlefield hasn't been good since BF2/2142. BF3 was a bait and switch where they said it was a return to PC focused gaming and not just a console port (was a console port), and they've been doing it ever since.

Even if you disagree with me and enjoyed the midlife BF, you have to admit the last few have been dumpsters. EA is a dumpster company, we all know this. Why ever give them the benifit of the doubt?

The reason is people are stupid (on average) and the concept of an informed consumer base (or electorate) is a fallacy. For every 1 person who says fuck EA there are 3 people that don't care and 6 that aren't paying enough attention for an opinion on the subject to even cross their mind. Advertising is the only thing that matters in this reality and they know it.

path: 0 25049783 25049920, hotness: undefined, score: 36, children: 2
GoatSynagogue 1 point 3 months ago

I disagree, I loved BF3, and BF4 (not at the cluster fuck broken launch, but 12 months after release), but that doesn’t really matter.

I didn’t buy any after that because yeah I agree they were garbage, but I bought 6 because after putting in tonnes of hours in the beta and being massively impressed at how it appeared to be a return to 3’s style like they specifically said, I didn’t think it would all be a lie and that the full release was basically just the crappy games again but with new problems.

On EA as company, I don’t really care either way. If they release a game I want to play I’ll buy it. I won’t really care if the company are “evil” or anything.

brucethemoose 2 points 2 months ago

I mean, this is fair.

I don't like EA. I'm highly skeptical of any of their products from experience, and on principle.

But not gonna lie, if there was a Mass Effect game beta that I personally played and liked, I'd buy it.

But to the point of the poster above you, you aren't the average consumer here. You seem well informed, you played the game for 6 months; EA just pulled the rug out from under you.

But there are a ton of people who just brainlessly buy releases because their friends did it; TBH I did this as a teenager.

Or they buy because some influencer in their feed hyped it, not because they actually tried it. I think this is very common these days.

Nah, that’s an instant full account ban on Xbox/playstation/EA.

The product is as described on the box, it’s just not what we were made to believe it would be otherwise, so a chargeback is not the right way anyway. Not buying the next game by that company until after release and a bit more time is the way to go about it. I know I won’t buy another battlefield for a few months after release.

Also the added issue of not being able to market indie games effectively given the ocean of AI trash and asset flipping.

A great deal of the industry is powered by debt financing. And the CEO typically holds the job by gatekeeping access to that borrowed money.

Labor solidarity is predicated on being able to participate in the market. It isn't as if people don't try to Unionize. But if your office or your business or your entire industry can be casually strangled to death by the financial sector when a plurality demand a raise, there's quickly nothing left to unionize.
