Trump Makes Last-Minute Bid To Hide His Finances From BBC
14 days ago by inclementimmigrant to c/news
Looks like Trump is getting more than he bargained for when taking on BBC.
I'm hoping the beeb wins and gets everything they want. It will signal to other entities he's threatened with lawsuits that he's a stuffed shirt (and how!) that has more dirt to hide than they do.
UK law is much more open to discovery than the US, and losers pay. Betcha Trump didn't know that.
Oh, if that's the case, when he loses, he'll be chewing what's left of his hair.
Trump HATES paying for anything.
I've been in the Trades since 1980 and for years, the running snarky aside about him went "If you want to know whether Trump pays his bills, ask any electrician in New Jersey.."
Apparently he's gone through a lot of them and stiffed quite a few over the decades.
Yep. That's one of the BBC's many arguments, that this case is being heard in the wrong place (Florida Southern District, Miami):
It's worth a skim for anyone interested in these things; the number of ways he's trying to cheat, play dirty, and just manipulate the process are overwhelming.
What in the US the loser doesn't pay?
Not unless the judge rules that one side must cover the cost incurred by the other. Even then, they could drag out the payment over the course of years due to appeals or bankruptcy filings.
Nope. And there is no mediation, which is why the US is full of ambulance chasers and everyone sues everyone.
He thought the BBC would roll over like when he sued ABC and they just paid him 15 million and apologized to him. Or when he sued CBS and they paid him 16 million. The issue is that BBC is funded from taxpayer money and I don't think the British taxpayers would be very happy with them paying Trump.
Don't you mean the "land of the free"-based broadcasters? Lol
There's also a stark difference between 15 mil and 10 bn
It's not quite tax payer money, we pay a licence fee to be able to watch live broadcast which funds the BBC (they also get a vast amount of money from licensing shows overseas). But your point is true that the public would be pissed if they just rolled over and paid without fighting Trump
Yep.
I'm a licence payer and not only would I be very upset if the BBC just paid the raging orange paedo, I also want to offer my services to fight that fat cunt.
I mean physically. I don't have the money to win in court, however I'd be verrrrry happy to throw hands.
Very happy.
You have no way to gauge how happy I'd be to punch that useless pile of wobbling dementia riddled barrel of rape and corruption.
Goodness, this was brilliantly stated and I salute you. I think many would want to follow in your lead. An orderly line of eager participants, each wishing to have their turn, might be required.
ABC did that on purpose. They knew they could use the settlement as a disguised bribe to get preferential treatment from Trump. That was worth more than the legal battle that would drag on for years and net them nothing. He still hasn't paid E. Jean Carroll. He certainly wouldn't have paid out the ABC case.
What they did is the equivalent of paying a crooked cop. It's textbook racketeering. "Pay me and we'll protect you." -every one of the 5 families.
ABC is owned by Disney, there's an equally likely chance they were afraid Trump would retaliate by blocking a merger or something. I don't know what merger it would have been, but it feels like there's a pretty good chance Disney is trying to buy some other company at any given time.
Well yeah because Trump could get their license revoked.
He does not have that leverage with the bbc
He could have tried to get their license revoked, but would have lost the ensuing lawsuit on first amendment grounds. ABC was never at risk of losing their license. They willingly chose the bribe. A lawyer that just passed their BAR exam could have won that case.
It's not a mistake.
He's a bully. He thinks he can get away with it, so he does it...because he usually gets away with it.
He will drop the case before he has to submit evidence for discovery.
If he does BBC should be allowed to counter sue as it was clearly a fraudulent claim in the first place.
Also I have a feeling the smart ones tend to avoid working for him.
He doesn't file lawsuits to actually win them, he files them as intimidation. He expects the other side to cave, and to settle. I tried to search for lawsuit Trump actually won on their merits, without a negotiated settlement, and could only find one that was a default judgement (so the other side didn't even show up).
None of whom are allowed to practice law any more.
Which is wild, because representing the POTUS is something some lawyers would probably do for free just for the prestige. Except that Trump always wants them to break the law and incriminate themselves.
I'm sure you have seen this, but he hires based on loyalty, not competence.
That's why I go to the BBC for my local (American) news.
ANY news agency except American is better. We did it to ourselves.
The BBC gets most of its US news from its US news partner… CBS
I have seen a fair amount of parroting from them. Still better than the propaganda machines here.
I recognize President Pedophile is incredibly stupid, in addition to being a horrible human being. But I'm struggling to see how he could have made this mistake. Additionally, he has lawyers.
He's burned through many lawyers and there are few reputable or intelligent lawyers left who might be willing to light their careers on fire. Sure, he might find one willing to trade their career for whatever benefits they might get (or maybe they just have a hard on for fascism, which often means they are fucking stupid too), but most of his lawyers have, eventually, been left holding a flaming bag of shit while Trump transparently lies and pretends he has never heard of them or has heard they aren't very good.
It's happening to pretty much the entire fucking justice department. It used to be a very sought after career. Now they are giving fresh grads signing bonuses and then shuffling them into the meat grinder and sacrificing their reputation to further the administration's nakedly corrupt agenda. "Hey, new kid, I need you to take this case." Turns out the case is about some poor immigrant that been detained for months and then deported despite having court orders protecting him from deportation... that were clumsily bypassed with unsigned orders or some other bullshit. New kid sits in front of a frustrated judge yelling at him and the kid can only say "I don't know what happened" and go home and cry into his pillow.
He probably assumed it wouldn’t go anywhere, and he didn’t need to do anything, because he’s president.
He'll wiggle and worm for all he's worth but then drop the suit before they can climax.
I hope they counter sue for their defense costs and as much more as they possibly can. I wonder if the BBC counter suing him on the grounds that this lawsuit from him was filed based on a lie (his imaginary $10b loss), he failed to comply with the court order to disclose finances to prove the loss he himself had claimed, and then when the judge refused to stay that order he ended up dropping his case entirely would be a way to try to force the same financial record disclosure?
I'd imagine not under normal circumstances, the burden of proof being on the one suing... but with that chain of events and every historic estimate of Trump's net worth having been far less than that claimed $10B loss... it seems like it might be possible.
How would you know, those files have been redacted.
Both kinds
Oh please, take the time to transpose Trump's and pipers head!
Gosh, it would be a shame if all his financial records got released without his consent. You know… like all the names and personal information of the Epstein victims.
They will seal them all. Says in the court filings that even if released to BBC many can't be made public.
Because rich people are in charge of the United States so whatever they want goes.
If they release them to the BBC, then it comes down to. Would the UK government want a rut with the US?
It lowkey opens for blackmail, if they're hiding smut on Trump and willingly gives them to the UK.
Why would the government be involved?
The BBC, despite its claims of editorial independence, ultimately serves at the pleasure of the government.
It's very naive to think that any politically significant information given to the BBC wouldn't then be handed over to Lisa Nandy or MI5.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC#Governance
I wouldn't be surprised if Trump wasn't aware that the BBC isn't 'Murican
I mean, he's a fucking idiot, after all
That is why he is doing it in a US court. They let you sue foreign entities.
What stops a country from saying something like, "it is illegal for our citizens to be sued in a foreign court"?
Treaties mostly. And if they ever wanna do business in the US again. Which pre oompalumpanian policies and politics was an appealing thing to have and do.
You can't dictate laws in another country.
I think he'll drop the suit so that he doesn't have to disclose the tax documents. You know he's committing tax fraud, and if those docs are released, the world will know. That won't affect him now, but it will in 2.5 years.
Yeah he may have gotten away with real-estate fraud, tax fraud, election fraud, rape, stealing classified documents, literally coup attempts against congress, but he won't get away with tax fraud.
I sincerely hope he will face no consequences in 2.5 years. On accounts of painfully and painstakingly slowly dying 2.49 years prior.
In prison 🤗
Now you're talking.
So many things to conceal and protect... Like the TRUMP-EPSTEIN FILES (TM) for example.
Must be exhausting. No wonder he's always on the nod.
Buddy isn't going to make it very far past the mark where vance can run for 2 terms. Either he'll actually die of natural causes, or the people controlling him will kill him.
No he's not. That will never be legal.
They have a wish list for Santa Claus, too.
There's something so beautiful to see about him hanging himself with his own rope, because of his stupidity and arrogance
I look forward to his death, and I hope that it hurts the whole time
At this point it just looks like he has an asphyxiation fetish. When, or at this point really, if, he gets any sort of comeuppance it'll be a fucking miracle.
He seems to have cholera, or dysentery, the way he shits himself constantly. Hopefully he shits himself to death.
Dump expected the British media to just roll over like the media does here in the States.
I would love to have his backers outed as well.
The terrible BBC I call them, horrible people and a bad outlet and I'm told, going under any day now! Big business guy, friend of mine the other day told me they're not doing too - well. In dire... dire straights and about to go... under. The terrible BBC!
I keep saying that these defendants should stop settling, and start demanding their day in court, with a FEROCIOUS discovery, and a countersuit to make him cover the legal costs if he loses.
Then REFUSE to settle, or drop the case. Follow it all the way through, you know he'll never win.
Fight fire with a Supernova.
What did they say?
They said "im calling it"
"I want justice!! JUSTICE! ....uhhhh, now wait a minute..."
No no, he wants "Just ICE". Slip of the tongue, common amongst the elderly deranged.
Can you blame him? He's got a thing going with Bubba. He won't ruin that by letting some BBC inside his finances
He’s just stalling long enough to cook the books.

Wouldn't someone in the US with a passing familiarity of lawsuits and who has been in court innumerable times have an inkling about the discovery phase?
I recognize President Pedophile is incredibly stupid, in addition to being a horrible human being. But I'm struggling to see how he could have made this mistake. Additionally, he has lawyers. This is incredible.
Good on the BBC for fighting this.
