In the last minutes of the stream, Musk made a hardcore difficulty character he named Kekius Maximus, a 4chan-esque meme name he’s used as his display name on X. But Kekius Maximus was not long for the world. Musk died to one of the game’s tutorial bosses due to a bad connection, which subsequently concluded the stream, ending another sad, weird data point in the Elon Musk fake gamer saga.

The guy who claimed he was a top tier Quake player... who in actuality, was only scoring well in online matches, because he played on the T1 high speed, stupid expensive business line at his Zip2 business in the 90s... and performed terribly at LANs...

Well here he is 30 years later, now dying to a tutorial boss, partially due to the shitty connection of his own ISP.

Amazing.

Shit, mentioning the T1 really made me have a minor flashback. Yeah. Back in the 90s computer processing power varied dramatically between users. Like when I got a 386 around 1990 it had a whooping 40mb of space and 1mb of RAM. It was a lot for the time. We never had to run anything directly off disks. But just 3 years later when Doom came out (and I remember the launch of Doom) i was surprised that we couldn't have it because it needed 4mbs of RAM. Also our computer wasn't fast enough anymore so when we DID finally get it years later we needed to use the smaller screen option to get it to run fast enough otherwise it was too choppy to play.

Someone playing Quake, a game that only came out a few years later, with that kind of machine you're talking about would dominate. Not because of skill, but simply that his comp has the speed that can allow him to act and react much faster than his opponents.

It would be like if you took a modern formula one race car from 2025 to a formula one race in 1925. A medicore driver would win, but not for skill.

Exactly.

In that sense, 'pay to win' has always been a thing lol.

You sound probably a bit older than me, but I can't tell you how many times in the 90s and early 00s that I legitimately lost games due to having a garbage tier ping to basically everywhere, and a shitty eMachine, and everyone else just acted like none of that mattered and I was just whining.

Then, surprise, me and the online boys all jump into a server where they all have pings of 80, I have a ping of 200, and then they're all mad that I cant hit anybody because enemies are rubber banding around like fucking DBZ characters for me.

... Then I do a LAN party with local friends and utterly dominate, routinely.

-.-

I’m younger than both of ya’ll but I remember playing COD Modern Warfare 2 on my Xbox 360 with a 27” CRT TV and a connection that put me a good few tenths of a second behind everyone else(estimating off of killcam footage).

I cleaned up most of the time. I had to get good and I didn’t know at first that it was my connection so I just started going wild lol. I only played hardcore mode and used fast, light weapons so I could react and correct more quickly. Probably couldn’t pull it off these days but it’s a fun memory.

Hehe sounds about right.

Yeah... a whole lot of gamers... seem to... think they know how game design works, think they know how to solve technical problems...

And well now in the last decade we see the buckets of slop games on steam made by such idiots, confirming that indeed, 95% of them have no clue about anything.

I was an early beta tester for Project Reality, which has now become its own studio, Squad is literally Project Reality just rebuilt in UE 4 to higher quality, because EA wouldn't liscense out Frostbite to them.

But thats all a tangent to hopefully lend some creedence to when I say: solving network lag and having good netcode is actually extremely complicated and difficult, even still today.

We still see AAA studios fucking up the basics of a lot of netcode stuff in mmo/rpg typr games, where they just make way, way too much shit clientside authoritative, and then have to spend a year or two redesigning the entire game.

This, in turn, is why third party kernel anti cheats have taken off so much, because game devs just fucking give up at making a reasonably secure networked game.

Meanwhile Valve figured this shit out literal decades ago, with highly efficient netcode, and a mostly server side AC solution.

It isn't possible to stop 100% of cheaters.

It is possible to stop 99.9% of them by designing your game and netcode well.

But that is apparently too hard, so basically the entite industry has outsourced it and/or solved it with massively inefficient and privacy/security compromising AC.

I wanna see Elon play a grandmaster and get absolutely memed on. The gulf between the average person and a top tier chess player is probably 10x greater than the gulf between the average person and a top tier gamer, in any video game. Chess just has such a large player base and literally centuries of tactical/strategic development, few games can even claim to have fostered the level of expertise required to be a top player.

Side note: chess skull is often correlated with intelligence. There might be something there, but at the top levels it's really just about having played thousands and thousands of games and recognizing patterns between is how often you've played. Perhaps some genetal intelligence translates well to chess, but little chess skill translates to general intelligence.

To quote Paul Morphy, who was a worldwide chess champion at 21 years old but retired at 22: "The ability to play chess is the sign of a gentleman. The ability to play chess well is the sign of a wasted life."

Elon sounds like this phase I went through where I believed I was the smartest person alive, and I would often make grandiose and contrarian statements to keep up the illusion, because being considered the smartest was more important than the actual possession of knowledge or wisdom. Simply because feeding my ego felt good, but I realized that feeding my ego means not feeding my true self which is NOT the ego, and if I fed myself I could actually became intelligent and enjoy maybe not feel the high of the role... but actually being intelligent is more valuable.

If I recall correctly I was 15 at the time this started and 17-19 when I stopped doing it because I realized it made me an assclown.

So uhhh How old is Elon?

it’s hard to really prove he’s a fraud at spacex and tesla and pretending to be some super genius

I mean, even this isn’t very hard. My relative used to work at SpaceX, and it’s an open secret that the company has a team of people dedicated to keeping Elon away from the engineers. Like as soon as he steps out of his office, there are multiple people whose sole job is to push paperwork and “problems” (read: “literally just basic decisions that anyone in middle management could make”) in front of him to keep him completely distracted with inane and inconsequential things, while also making him feel like a big important decision maker.

All so he doesn’t have time to wander down towards the engineers. Because if he does get to the engineers, he’ll inevitably try to one-up them with some “why are we doing it this way that I’m too dumb to understand? I don’t like that I can’t understand it. We should do it this dumb way instead” decree. And now the entire company is going to grind to a halt until the engineers can redesign the entire system to fit his new dumb design.

Like he desperately wants to fit in with the engineers, but the only way he knows how is to try and flex his (nonexistent) technical expertise. So the company has hired people specifically to prevent that scenario from ever happening.

There are rumors going around from people in his life that he underwent a failed penis enhancement surgery. A lot of people are joking that his dick is mangled or missing but in reality he probably just cannot maintain a natural or medicinal erection due to damage to the blood vessels. He has the money and resources to get a penile implant installed which is basically a fluid sac that fills up with the touch of a sub-dermal button to give someone an erection. He's got a balloon animal cyborg dick basically. More than likely this makes him completely incapable of impregnating a woman (no muscles to ejaculate sperm with) which is why all of his children are IVF

This is exactly what Ted Bundy did when his first love dumped him.

He fell for a woman called Diane Edwards while in college, and they dated for about a year. She was everything he thought a woman should be; beautiful, smart, successful, and from a well-off family. She dumped him because she saw him as "pitifully weak". Psychologists believe, and Bundy himself all but confirmed, that this was the catalyst that would fuel his homicidal rage towards women. It's also believed that Diane heavily influenced the type of women he killed; young white college students with brown hair parted in the middle. He began killing women the same year Diane dumped him.

Five years later he was married and living a double life as a serial killer. During this time, he sought out and reconnected with Diane behind his wife's back, and Diane was impressed with his transformation. He was on the cusp of a successful legal and political career, and he seemed a lot more masculine and sure of himself. She was smitten and wanted to pursue the relationship. They even got as far as discussing marriage. That's when Bundy dumped her and cut off all contact with her, getting his "corrective experience" moment, which clearly did nothing to heal the trauma of rejection that spurred one of the most terrifying episodes of serial murder in history.

Elon Musk doesn't need to beat the bullies to get closure. He needs therapy. Or rather, he needed therapy, and he needed it many years ago. At this point, he's in his "dumping Diane" phase, where he's already hurt so many people and he's so far gone that no amount of therapy would help him. He's already too addicted to the monster he's become to ever want to heal himself. His need to have these corrective experiences, like Bundy with Diane, is strictly to feed the monster's ego.

Sure, someone new to video games in general would struggle. Someone who played at least a tiny bit of Elden ring? Should feel completely natural

If you read the article, he died because his Starlink connection disconnected - which also cut the stream.

Which doesn't excuse his lack of skill throughout the stream before that.

At this point I think it's just fun. So much of the conversation around Elon is deadly serious, doom and gloom, and this is just... lighthearted mocking about something that doesn't matter. It's a refreshing change.

And it does seem to matter to him, so undermining that image he works hard to curate is an added bonus. And hell, if Path of Exile is what makes someone realize what a pathetic lying moron he can be, then that's fantastic as well, even if it's an odd thing to have that epiphany for.

Maybe; but either way it means he gets to have more air-time and head-space.

Being disliked for someone trivial, such as being bad at a computer game, doesn't really translate across to more important things. So that reputational damage is shallow and unimportant, but maintaining his position as being newsworthy is powerful and useful to Musk. So I agree with the other guy: better to not fuel these discussions about trivial junk. If you want to keep talking about Musk, then stick to stuff that matters.

Ignoring problems doesn't make them go away.

If it helps, one of the reasons the KKK lost power decades back was because Superman comics ridiculed them enough that people were embarrassed enough to be a part of them. Essentially, this is how you combat a culture war. Sad as it is...

I think the more important insight is how desperately he is trying to appeal to the young male demographic, and going so far as to pay a pro gamer to boost his account in a video game so he can pretend to be one of them.

Why? Probably a lot of potential reasons, but anyone with even a little bit of critical thinking skills should immediately become suspicious when they see that. Because whatever the actual reason, it probably isn't good.

Have been using starlink for more than 2 years at this point and can confirm from my view that there are very few connection issues. I’ve almost never looked at my connection as the issue when gaming since getting it. It either went down completely for a few hours (2 times I can remember) or was very solid.

EDIT: Not excusing or fanboying for Musk, as his personal direction has been questionable in recent years. But talking about the technology perspective.

It's an online game where your position is important. Dodging to the wrong area can get you killed. It also uses both your computer and the server to manage things, to avoid cheating. In the original, there used to be massive problems with desyncs, where your computer thinks you're in one area, the server thinks you're somewhere else, and so the instructions sent from one to the other caused headaches with aiming and especially avoiding attacks. Most of the competitive players probably still have a macro bound to type /desync. If you have a bad connection, the desync is almost unavoidable. This will get you killed fast.

I don't know what other games you play, but they all seem to have similar principles underlying their netcode. Think of a game like rocket league (casual mode), or fromsoftware game like elden ring, or a counterstrike game, or an MMO. You're running it locally, on your computer, but in order for people to seamlessly drop in to an ongoing match in rocket league, or to invade/help in elden ring means there is a server side. You can join the exile's group and jump to the area they're in for path of exile, no extra work required on the client side. I don't think you can even play 'offline' like you can in rocket league or elden ring. The counterstrike and MMO is probably the closest example, because when you login to path of exile, you are definitely logging into a server. It's why you can see all the people in town.

Just as an aside, that $20bn figure wouldn't even come close to ending homelessness in the US. That's just how much it would cost to house the homeless population, which is a bandaid on the issue.

The US government as a whole needs a major rewrite to actually address the issue. It's not a situation with a simple solution.

I agree. Housing is a human right, and any person being homeless is a failure of the political systems they exist within. Homelessness is a crime against humanity. No human being should be denied their own shelter. The US government would allow more people to become homeless if all presently homeless people were housed. It would undeniably be a good thing of Elon Musk did house all the homeless, but without systemic change, we will find ourselves back at Square 1 in 5 or 10 years.

It is necessary to view and treat shelter as a human right that all people are guaranteed and provided by the system. Much the same as food, potable water, healthcare, and heat.

I assume "tutorial boss" is the one you're required to kill on any new character, before you can access the first city, the one that any first time player might have trouble with, but once you've done it once it's never going to take you down again.

Edit,

The death in the video they posted was the first "boss" after the first city, also pretty pathetic to lose to, but not a required (tutorial) fight. Seeing his mechanics there it wouldn't surprise me if the hillock (or whatever his poe2 counterpart is called) killed him.

Second edit

Musk died to one of the game’s tutorial bosses due to a bad connection, which subsequently concluded the stream, ending another sad, weird data point in the Elon Musk fake gamer saga.

The entire thing was a publicity stream for how reliable star link was, seems like if he's dieing to early game bosses because of connection issues star link might not be suitable for gaming on...

Last edit, he died 3 times to the tutorial boss, at that point it's connection issues and lack of skill.

Read everything you wrote again but realize you're talking about the wealthiest dude in the world who was hawking his own shit and this was the result.

He literally has more resources at his disposal than any other human and this is what he produces, I guess as marketing?

What the fuck is going on?
