psycho behavior.
Absolutely. It's fucking unhinged.
yeah its something where me and my friends would be laughing so hard.
Animal cruelty is a sign of psychopathy. You're probably kidding, but the idea triggers me a little
Watched The Lighthouse one time too much eh?
yep, alas this comment section is a goldmine to block overly violent men.
Hey, so your comments so far have been inflammatory and egging on, with a clear disregard for the actual situation unfolding.
I did appreciate some of your posts in the past, thus why I write this, but alas, you're included.
This is literally the most polarised comment section I've seen. Both sides of the argument for and against the killing are getting downvotes out the wazoo

Pick your side.
I am for smacking the seagulls. One smack is enough. Beating it to death or slamming into a wall is overkill.
I don't think so. It's my food and if a seagull comes in to steal it it's getting smacked away. It is the way of life. You think a different animal would let a seagull steal its food? I doubt it. And my benevolence only stretches so far.
Oh, absolutely.
Beating it to death is 'overkill' though if your intention was simply to 'make it sorry'.
Tbh, reading this thread it seems like a lot of people don't feel able to pull their punch accurately enough to both make a seagull regret taking your food and not injure it in the process.
I mean, if you're really angry, and you've physically caught it, what's wrong with screaming in it's face then throwing it into the air. It'll be off like a bat out of hell after that.
But at the end of the day, it's a bit of food, not even worth doing the above either but I guess it depends on your anger management skills.
On the other hand: It will never steal anything ever again.
Okay, Ender Wiggin.
Weird day on Lemmy when animal murder is being celebrated.
Killing animals (without eating them) is serial killer shit.
Eh, factory farming is messed up too even if you eat the bodies.
How do you know he didnāt eat it?
If any animal fucks around, they have to expect to find out. Feels like a golden rule situation.
this community's mod officially approves of bigotry against people for their gender so I'm removing this comments content
It would depend on the situation I think. We just have a story to go on here and no direct awareness of the events as they unfolded. In your scenarios there's a different degree and intent in actions and reactions. But if I had to put down some general morality I would probably settle on equal, non excessive, reactions to establish personal boundaries. This entirely depends on the individual subjects though. One could have neurological or intellectual disorders for example.
I always did think hippos had a serial killer quality
You havenāt had to deal with seagulls and it shows.
You can't do that? I thought it was pretty badass, actually.
I'm an animal lover, but seagulls are a different story. They're the MAGAs of the bird world, and it's okay to smack one around if you catch one stealing from you.
They're the MAGAs of the bird world
lol
I grew up around the great salt lake where there are hordes of these mother fuckers, if you donāt despise them as the devil spawn that they are then youāve never had to deal with them. I love animals, but I would support a seagull specific genocide.
See, this guy gets it. [Fist bump]
Nah they're protected species in the UK. Idk what the law looks like elsewhere. It does seem a little cruel to punch the bird and it not die and then leave it to go wander off and die from its internal injuries. I'd have more respect it dude just broke its neck and have it a quick death.
Kind of reminds me of Canadian geese in the USA, I wish I could kill those bastards but they're protected. I don't know if it's possible to get a license to kill them or not, depends on how they're protected and the legislation around it - I'm too lazy to bother with any of that and don't hunt so wouldn't go through the hoops anyways. Those things are a menace and mean as hell a lot of times but you just live with it.
I'm curious now though if the USA has protections for seagulls or not.
Yes, all types of gulls are protected by US federal law.
Seagulls and most other gull birds are not protected under federal law, however disrupting/modifying wildlife of any kind (including seagulls) without a permit is illegal. However on a state level some do protect many gulls including seagulls while also controlling their population to reduce nuisance.
Then you have places like Florida, where seagulls are not even protected under the local animal cruelty act. You could torture them for being the scavenger animals they are and not get into any trouble at all. Itās really sickening.
As someone from Florida, this is a true, but once you have been the victim of, or seen families become victims of, a swarm of these assholes, you can understand people reacting violently. As another commenter said: I disagree, but I understand. For me personally, when I would go to the beach, if I saw 30+ seagulls sitting on the beach, I'd tell the kids "sorry, not today" and we'd leave. They are that bad.
I'm not an ornithologist and have no idea how many species of gulls there are or whether they're all protected, but yes a number of gulls, if not all, are protected in the US by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 plus various amendments. There's a list here:
In Denmark they're everywhere in the cities too, only thing more frequent then these shitbirds is rats.
In seattle seagulls are rain forcasters. When you hear their cries, rain is usually on the way within an hour or two.
Oi!
... Why do you have this need to harm animals for behaving like animals? Did your mother not love you or something?
Seriously, you think it's normal wanting to kill animals just because something a few of them did annoyed you?
They didn't attack you
They didn't shit all over you
And even if they did... It's animals doing their thing, just let them. Whatever you think these birds did to you I guarantee you that humanity has treated them a hundred times worse. If anything, birds do have a reason to kill us
Seagulls are essentially rats in sailor suits, except a LOT more aggressive.
So you're not really an animal lover
Mostly mammals.
I was mugged by a gang of gulls in California. One swooped in and kicked over my fries, then the rest rushed in to grab what they could. A family at the next table rescued me. "Circle the wagons," the dad said.
Isn't this a sign of early psychopaths? To kill animals without remorse.
No, they go looking for them.
Crime of passion
Seems like a somewhat bad idea. US law enforcement don't get punished for murdering US citizens. They probably wouldn't care about using overly aggressive tactics for even benign situations.
Seagull fucked around and found out.
I nearly stamped on one of the wankers after it nicked my icecream yesterday
rats with wings
The people that are self righteous here should reevaluate eating meat if they eat meat. Most of your arguments could be made against butchering animals for food.
I'm sure some of them are but they're an entire subfamily with dozens of genus and hundreds of species. Considering some are seemingly more common than rats, the chance he plucked an endangered one out of the air and punched it is really low.
Imagine getting seriously mad about a seagull...
well he's roit now innit
