Supreme Court Conservatives Reinstate Texas’ Gerrymandered House Maps
9 months ago by silence7 to c/politics
No. They are not in favor of racism.
They are in favor of feudalism.
It's obvious bullshit. If anything that logic would uphold the stay.
Same bullshit that Mitch McConnell claimed why Obama couldn't appoint a Supreme Court justice fuck this illegmeaite Supreme Court.
8 days. For real. She was confirmed 8 days before election day.
Yep hypocrites.
Dont forget 9 months is too close to an election to approve a supreme court justice nomination, unless the president is Republican and then less than a month is plenty of time
Election was already underway. There were already absentee balls cast ousting him from office when they approved his nomination
Fuck that shit. They use this argument whenever it suits them. And what suits this fascist admin, suits the SCOTUS.
Didn't Trump himself appoint SCOTUS judges "too close" to the election? Clowns.
Texas passed their new maps on August 29th. On November 18 the district court ordered them to revert to their previous maps.
Apparently the SC’s Republican cult members think this will be too difficult for Texas?
They've already gutted the VRA. This is reaffirming the decision.
The mask is off.
Fellow being, this particular mask has been off ever since Donny the Destroyer appointed his cronies to be SCOTUS judges - "too close" to the election, btw.
No no, dont even give it that much dignity. The complainants are not asking to "block the map" too close (11 months) to elections. They are asking that the map not be illicit, unethically changed 5 years early, based off the explicit public request of the President who is not meant to have power over state election matters, with the explicitly stated intent of gerrymandering out more seats for Republicans that they "deserve" than they otherwise would have won, only 15ish months to the elections (which is apparently plenty of time). Their "reasoning" doesn't make sense because it's not reasoning. It's blatant full chested support of voter suppression/disenfranchisement to bolster their party and their autocratic President. They're so full of shit you could smell them talking from the next room over. Fuck those lying, cheating, corrupt, un-American, fascist cunts.
Given the midterms are every two years, 12 months is the furthest you can get from an election on either side
Of course they did. Now let's see their rationale for overturning Californias.
Yeah, for real. Let’s hope the Majestic Imperious High Court deigns to grace us with any explanation. They love their emergency docket…
If that happens, nations around the globe should really wake up to the threat coming from the USA.
...oh, who am I kidding...
At what point can I stop pretending we have a functioning government?
Damn, guess I shouldn’t have been paying my taxes.
Guess that’s just the violence inherent in the system.
Unfortunately, not paying taxes isn't really an option. If there's one thing the government enjoys doing and does well is collect taxes, regardless of how failed that government is. The broken government is more likely to be extra shitty on the penalty though, unless you're rich of course, in which case you don't have to pay taxes.
Government is a racket
It functions pretty well at enriching a select few corporations and wealthy elites.
I'm constantly questioning my sanity because everyone pretends the Untied States is still a functional, stable country. I know Canadians still choosing to live part time in the Untied States. Are they that unaware? Do they just not care? Even if they don't care about other people, they should be questioning their own safety as non-citizens in Trump's America. Why are so many people still acting like everything is normal?
Since the founding of the country.
The Supreme Kangaroo Court of the United States strikes again.
I 100% blame the Democratic party for this. They've been assisting the Republicans in their efforts to create this court for the last 40 years. Thomas should never have been confirmed to the court and Ruth Bader Ginsberg hung on at a time when she should have left while the "liberal" dems controlled both the presidency and the Senate and could easily have replaced her with a(n at least mostly) liberal justice.
I would still place some blame on Republicans for insisting on nominating sexual offenders, corrupt pieces of shit, etc. Yes the Dems should have done more to stop them, but i think the GOP should bear some responsibility for being sociopaths
Blaming Republicans is like blaming a wolf for eating a chicken. It's in their nature, it's what they do. So no, I'm going to blame the farmer for allowing the wolf into the chicken coop in the first place.
Don’t blame the murderer, it’s just in their nature. Hmmm…. Pretty shit take TBH. Dems are chickenshit fail lovers, but let’s be real. The reason the SC is loaded with these scumbags is due to Republicans, Bitch McTurtle, and the Fed Soc.
The more I learn about things like this, the more I start to think that any quorum-based governance (e.g. democracy) is not just a scheme to balance radical differences of opinion, but to average out adverse and dysfunctional psychology. This, of course, has broken down somewhat, due to forces that keep selecting for more psycopathy than not.
It’s also frustrating that they let a seat be stolen.
McConnell invents a rule out of whole cloth and blocks an appointment.
The Dems could have played hard ball, they could have gone with the line that the senate was fulfilling its role of advising and consenting by not holding a vote. They want it to be read as a rejection, make them hold a vote, say that no vote means they are fine with it.
Republicans exceed their powers every time they have them to reshape this country to their vision. Democrats refuse to use the full scope of their power to accomplish anything.
Repeat ad nauseam.
With the benefit of hindsight we know RBJ should have stepped down sooner, but realistically the last opportunity was in 2014. Blaming her (and the democrats) entirely, but not blaming the republicians who blocked Obama's nomination is like blaming an abuse survivor for what happened to them, and not the abuser.
She died in 2020 of old age. How much foresight do you fucking need. She should have stepped down and a lot of people were telling her that.
The Supreme Clownshow
Exactly as expected. Next they'll find that California's redistricting is unconstitutional.
I obviously disagree with this ruling, but if they were to rule the opposite on California, the absolute sheer corruptness would be undeniable. And worthily of drastic and dramatic action on our (the citizens) part.
Okay but then it'll be double plus undeniable. People will definitely do something in response. You'll see.
I wonder how all the sanctimonious fucks who wouldn't vote because of the Israel situation are feeling now
I'm inclined to agree, but I've seen signs of potential unrest.
A household that has been decades gun free just got their sixth gun this year and a lot of ammo. Specifically citing a potential to stand their ground or die trying. We are talking about people who have lived 60 years without so much as a traffic ticket, never protesting anything, generally going along with things, now they they armed for talking a stand.
Another mild mannered colleague that has been super peaceful and moderate is similarly talking about how "we" might have to violently fight. No idea what prep he might do, but his was the last voice I expected to hear say that.
If people I've known to be very even keeled and moderate for decades are getting this close, I can't imagine how close others are...
I suppose we've been seeing the cracks start with two attempted trump assassinations and the Charlie Kirk assassination...
Their sheer corruptness is already undeniable. The six right wing hacks regularly make decisions that are blatantly and obviously unconstitutional and write nonsense opinions to justify them. They openly accept huge bribes from those impacted by their decisions and then rule in their favor. If the GOP gave a damn about the rule of law and the Constitution they would have been impeached long ago.
Good. Now what the fuck is going to be done about it?
We should start calling it Robertsmander rather than Gerrymander from now on. If having no shame while he's living has no effect, then the best he deserves is his name being tarnished and synonymous with corruption for hundreds of years.
Saying this in my head makes my head and my jaw hurt for some reason. I think I'll just stick with gerrymander.
That's very cute of you, however, fascism is there to stay.
It's a very confusing time for those who escape dictatorships... and then ended up here with these shenganigans...
Racist and brazenly illegal gerrymandered house maps.
The US is a corrupt, backward third world shit hole.
If it's too close to the election they need to approve a bill through legislature that changes need to happen before a specific number of days before an election, otherwise they are just legislating from the bench pretending it's legal. Which is obviously the case here because they can't argue justifications for their racist bullshit in an open forum. "The government can break the law whenever it wants, what are you going to do about it" seems to be the SC opinion here.
Redistricting unrelated to a change in the number of seats should be banned.
But if we are going to allow them, they should not be allowed to take effect until the following election cycle. This would give the court time to review the maps as well as allow the voters to have input prior to the change.
Crime is legal.
Simple as that.
If you're rich
This is why America can't have nice things
Those three guys probably have more in common with each other than with 99% of the population.
Every day MAGA trash feels safe leaving their homes is a day the rest of you show your cowardice, America
Your father and brother are Nazis.
If they aren’t afraid of you, you’re a coward or you’re complicit. There isn’t any grey area with fascism.
Ah yes fear and division.
The natural enemy of fascism.
Stop giving such shit advice, you sound like a maga
Agreed! It's MUCH too Close to an Election to Make Changes!
-The Supreme Court Justice who was appointed AFTER people ALREADY Voted!
Everything is shitty and terrible and we’re not even a year in. :(
If only there had been some kind of warning this would happen!
Of course. It was a given that that was what they were going to do, because they're entirely corrupt and compromised, entirely without integrity, principles, honor or legitimacy and driven solely by a determination to serve the interests of Trump and the oligarchs.
The way that special election in Tennessee went, instead of picking up five seats, they're liable to only be left with five seats (after all, you can't grab more districts without weakening your hold on others).
