JUST IN: Trump Admin Reportedly Making ‘Heavy Preparations’ for Putting Boots on the Ground in Iran

3 months ago by RandAlThor to c/news

The Pentagon is making "heavy preparations" for deploying American troops on the ground in Iran as President Donald Trump continues to weigh his options.
CompactFlax 203 points 3 months ago

Boots on ground will run into artillery and drones.

It’s like they learned nothing from watching Russia and Ukraine.

Iran also has a lot experience with drone warfare since they're supplying Russia with drones and have people operating and learning in an active war. Meanwhile the US hasn't really fought against drones in a real war and they refused help from Ukraine one of the countries at the forefront of drone warfare.

I wonder how long will Trump stay in office when the internet starts getting videos of American soldiers getting killed by drones just like the ones with Russian soldiers we have right now.

Trump has raped children, is a convicted felon, and demolished part of the White House. He's threatened reporters with execution, demanded personal enrichment as part of foreign trade, incited a terrorist attack on the Capitol building, and then pardoned the terrorists convicted of their crimes. He has openly solicited bribes and disclosed classified data to our enemies that resulted in the deaths of American agents abroad.

His supporters will not move an inch regardless of how many soldiers they see dying.

I've been around for over 4 decades and the only thing I've ever seen conservatives give a fuck about were gas prices, unborn babies (specifically), and people with not white skin becoming president.

Note: Specifically unborn babies because they don't give a flying fuck about kids after they're born. That's why they voted for a party that is currently obliterating child cancer research and are against free school lunches.

That's because Conservativism isn't really am ideology. It's psychological cover for being selfish. Conservatives define their core values based on whatever is good for the people within the Conservative group. They believe that they are the good people, the special people, and that they are entitled to whatever they want. Anyone that stands in their way is evil. Any facts that challenge their world view are lies. Any crimes they commit in service to their goals are justified.

Conservatives don't care about gas prices or unborn babies or racism unless those issues help them get elected. Conservatives get abortions when they want them. They will even blame other people getting abortions "for no reason" as the reason why they can't get their own "totally justified and moral" abortion.

They start wars, make trade agreements, and deregulate inustries that raise gas prices, because someone is getting rich from the high gas prices. When Conservatives are in charge and prices go up, they will tell you it is your patriotic duty to fuel up you SUV and drive around.

Even the racism is entirely user dependent. Black conservatives, Latino conservatives, Asian conservatives, Jewish conservatives, Islamic conservatives, Russian conservatives, they all hate someone and they all pretend to be the most persecuted people. It doesn't matter if they all hate the same people, as long as they hate somebody.

This is not politics. It's pathological narcissism.

I genuinely disagree only because, for so many of his supporters, it is their children. I don't think it will change them as people or their politics as a whole but it will effect Republican chances in the next election. If we have legitimate elections at all. I'm almost certain there will be armed feds at polling stations to "protect them" and fearmongering about Iranian hackers tampering with the results.

when the internet starts getting videos of American soldiers getting killed by drones just like the ones with Russian soldiers we have right now.

The difference is the videos will only come from official Iranian government sources since there is otherwise an internet blackout in Iran, to which the Trump admin will obviously respond "it must be AI, cannot be trusted, Iranian government propaganda." Meanwhile, like during Iraq, "embedded" US journalists will present a more rosy view of the conflict for US viewers at home while minimizing coverage of mounting evidence that the stories are true as US soldiers start leaking video themselves as conditions worsen.

He will stay in office until the midterms or Democrats are lucky enough to swing the midterms instead of handing Trump his stupid shit SAVE Act to fuck up the midterms. If that doesn't happen, he will be in office until he is dead, and there is almost assuredly no coming back from this, despite how notoriously stupid the entire Trump administration is.

And to those who say that Russia and Iran are allies. Russia was never a true ally with anyone, it is just partnership of convenience. US destroying itself in Iran has massive benefit for Russia.

And the fact that US did this and also lifted sanctions on Russia and Belarus is clear demonstration that US is ruled by Russian agent.

What more could there be?

If Trump would be a liability the billionaires would start an impeachment. Trump and the files are the distraction.

The files show that nothing happens, no matter the accusation. Russia can't blackmail Trump. Blaiming Russia for Trump is just helping Americans to accept Trump because they don't have to feel responsible.

The US has been buying Uranium, and I think even oil, the entire time from Russia, despite the sanctions. Lifting sanctions for other countries just prevents that they start decoupling from the US.

The US military has long been obsessed with World War II era tactics. Which essentially amounts to "We've got more troops than you, and we've given them bigger guns".

But this strategy hasn't been relevant since the end of the Cold War. Why would I care how many soldiers you have stationed at an important facility when I can just blow said important facility up with my big bomb? Their presence is irrelevant. Now that drone combat is so prevalent the number of troops you have is even less relevant.

Iran has essentially managed to defeat the United States without any of their troops moving beyond their border.

Two reasons for that: After he missed out Vietnam, he now has the chance to rectify this blunder. And: He can do everything perfectly (at least according to himself), so he should be a good leader and go first, leading his troops into battle like the kings of old.

The rest of the government are telling him it's going to bankrupt us, but he's too fucking stupid to see that, that's the whole point of this war. China is establishing alternative trade routes to bypass major US controlled chokepoints like the straight of Malacca. Iran is a literally crossroads of the world and China's trade with Africa and West Asia has to travel through it. Iran also supplies 50% of China's oil and because China doesn't have any significant domestic oil reserves this is critical to their industry and national defence.

This is INCREDIBLY important to geopolitics. The very existence of trade outside of US monitered/controlled routes especially without the use of the dollar is an enourmous threat to its global hegemony and domestic economy. China's number 1 goal is to create economic relations outside of the US sphere of influence resulting in a multipolar rather than unipolar world economy. The geographical location of Iran is critical to this.

I genuinely can't stress this enough. Israel almost certainly "started it" because they need Iran gone more than the US does but the US is also very interesting in an utterly dysfunctional Iran. The goal likely isn't to control that territory or even to extract resources from it. The goal is to make it unmanageable/uninvestable for decades.

Also oil

That's bullshit. This will not improve the US economy. Trump has always enriched himself on the expense of US economy. Trump does not give two fucks about the american economy and has never done anything to put his country intrest first. . not even Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, Ben Shapiro, Rubio, .. no one said this stupid shit you came up with. Please, before you get offended and shut down, please read until the end of my comment:

BEFORE THE WAR the US already had %100 total control over all of the oil and gas trades in the gulf reigon with all of them trading it exclusively in petrodollars and re-inveating %100 of all their profits back into US stocks and defense contracts on top. They also had put both Russia and Iran under crippling sanctions where both were hardly able to sell any of it in the most discounted prices worldwide. So that's not why they went there.

The US is fighting wars for Israel settler-colonial expansion and hegemony because all their congress is fully bribed and Trump is fully comprimised by Netenyahu.

Your reason doesn't make sense because the Britian empire figured this out since 1700 when they were controlling all trade routes of all the nations they invaded. Because even if the US spent $300 billions and fully and successfully invaded Iran to secure Hormuz, (which would take securing bases along all the coast and the mountains of west Iran aka long-term invasion that needs 200k soldiers deployment), and iran stopped having any government and became a bunch of militias controlling different reigons, the US still will not stay there and have everything to lose to stay there just like Iraq. How much do you think it costs to sustain this bullshit otherwise they would be there extracting minerals from Afghaistan and in iraq still exporting their oil. They are fighting for Netenyahu because the US government represents Israel first, and on the other hand these oil and weapon execs and the ones making these decisons are getting richer and nothing to lose.

I diagree with a few key points

this will not improve the US economy

Yes and no. It will improve the "economy" in that wealthy powerful people will enrich themselves through it and it weakens a threat to their wealth and power. This is what state officials often mean when they say that our economy is doing well. It is, for them, and they need to insure that this continues. One of the purposes of the state is to direct the often very short term interests/incentives of the various capitalists towards long term interests. The economy, the one used to refer to the standard living conditions of the working class, will suffer from this war, they just don't care about that.

Trump does enrich himself through the power he wields yes but he has to care about the American economy because he IS beholden to other people. Not you and me but rather the other members of his class. If he is to act too far outside of their interests he would be removed from power. He doesn't need our consent to rule, not really, but he does need theirs.

not even Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, Ben Shapiro, Rubio

You should not be looking to these people's public facing statements for geopolitical analysis. They are not reliable sources. I honestly question whether these idiots are even aware that this is the reason, some of them genuinely do believe the nonsense they say.

They also had put both Russia and Iran under crippling sanctions where both were hardly able to sell any of it in the most discounted prices worldwide.

Russia doesn't look so crippled to me. While Iran was suffering under sanctions they were doing far better than the US had expected. They also joined BRICS which is the current largest and most successful attempt to create a world trade network outside of American influence. Russia and Iran were "hardly able to sell oil" because they weren't selling it officially. They sold it to middle men who could skirt around sanctions. Trust me that oil was getting sold it just wasn't labelled Russian or Iranian anymore.

The US is fighting wars for Israel settler-colonial expansion and hegemony because all their congress is fully bribed and Trump is fully comprimised by Netenyahu.

Entire major world economies do not fight wars because their politicians have been bribed. Our politicians are able to do what they are doing because it also serves the interests of their donors. Look at what their donors are saying. They need Israel to succeed because their unsinkable aircraft carrier in west asia is indespensable to maintaining control in that region.

Is Media-ITE a credible source?

path: 0 22783394, hotness: undefined, score: 7, children: 12
8oow3291d 9 points 3 months ago

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mediaite :

The New York Times has described the site as "a blog that chronicles the gossipy media world"

So not the most credible source you could imagine. But on the other hand, Wikipedia doesn't list any examples of Mediaite being fake news. And in this case, Mediaite is just summarizing a CBS article - the CBS article should obviously have just been linked instead.

In any case, it seems to me that Trump has two options: 1) Give consessions to Iran to save the global oil market or 2) ground invasion. Since I can't imagine Trump surrendering, no matter how game theory rational it would be, I am expecting ground operations.

In my experience I've seen their reporting to be accurate, though sensationalized, and they have a liberal bias. So just keep that in mind while reading their articles. You'll have to ignore the sensationalism and just read the facts, and then ask yourself what they're omitting from the article.

But no bombs will terrorize civilians of the washington regime, no iranian soldiers will set foot on the land, no resistance movement against Iran invasion has to be organized.

We're talking about ground troops, not naval.

There has been no logistical support put in place so far for ground troops. Seeing such support beginning to roll out would be the first sign that this was more than just speculation.
