Muslims at Texas GOP Convention told to leave party, country
7 days ago by UnderpantsWeevil to c/politics
Hussein said he was in disbelief that he was told to convert or leave — for the first time in his life — at a Republican convention with the tagline, “Unity drives victory.”
That slogan, touted by the governor on press releases, placards, lanyards and even the elephant he procured to march through the convention hall, became a rallying cry for the state’s leaders and party nominees heading into November. If fractured, they warned, the party could lose the state to Democrats and their U.S. Senate nominee, Austin state Rep. James Talarico.
But in spite of that warning, members were willing to lose the support of Muslim conservatives.
...
Hussein attended a panel from the Judeo-Christian Caucus moderated by Dr. Rick Scarborough, a former Southern Baptist pastor and the president of Recover America, an organization to engage ministers and pastors in politics.
Speakers told the audience that immigrants who don’t believe in Judeo-Christian values will erode those values and create problems for America. Scarborough accused Muslims of lying to win political power.
“You’re going to find Muslims that aren’t being antagonistic or mean, at least not publicly. But I’ll guarantee, if they get power, they’ll cut your head off as believers of Christ,” he said.
Well yea, he’s a fucking republican
Radical Muslims have a lot in common with conservatives.
The commonality is how much they believe in the fervor of their religion and hate you for yours.
What a fucking idiot. The GOP has been brazenly anti Muslim for almost 30 years, they've always been xenophobic.
But you see he thinks he is one of the good ones. Surely he will be accepted as the in group.
They’re just house slaves vs the field slaves to the republicans. Just as disposable, but somehow they think they aren’t viewed the same.
Literally what carried them to popularity after 9/11 was they siezed the chance to make the public irrationally terrified of an (all things considered) benign and innocuous minority. Their whole platform FOR THE ENTIRE 21ST CENTURY has been, "Fuck anybody who isn't us, and that goes double for Muslims."
Every time I hear the term "Log Cabin Republicans" or "Blacks for Trump" or "Hispanics for Trump" or about these Muslims going to GOP things, or about trad wives....all I hear is:
...which was a real thing. People have not only not learned history, they absolutely refuse to learn from it even if they know some of these things.
Lehi split from the Irgun militant group in 1940 in order to continue fighting the British during World War II. It initially sought an alliance with Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany.[20] Believing that Nazi Germany was a lesser enemy of the Jews than Britain, Lehi twice attempted to form an alliance with the Nazis, proposing a Jewish state based on "nationalist and totalitarian principles, and linked to the German Reich by an alliance".[20][21]
Read the whole article. It's fills in a lot of the gaps.
Oh, right there's that, but I was talking about this specifically:
The "fuck around" phase:
The Association of German National Jews (German: Verband nationaldeutscher Juden, VnJ) was an assimilationist and nationalist German Jewish organization which was formed during the early years of the rule of the Weimar Republic and during the early years of the rule of Nazi Germany, that eventually came out in support of Adolf Hitler.
The "find out" phase:
Despite the extreme nationalism of Naumann and his colleagues, the Nazi regime did not accept the Association of German National Jews as a legitimate intermediary. Following the passage of the Nuremberg Laws, the VnJ was declared illegal and dissolved on 18 November 1935. Naumann was arrested by the Gestapo the same day, and imprisoned at the Columbia concentration camp. He was released after a few weeks, and died of cancer in May 1939.[1] Most other members and their families were murdered in the Holocaust.[17]
Did he just sleep through years of, "Barack HUSSEIN Obama"? The fuck, bro, they put a stank on your name like that one canned fish that should be opened underwater.
Surströmming out here catching strays.
This is genuinely fucking hilarious
"They rejected me, called me racist slurs, and demand I get out of their country before.. but surely this time, THIS TIME, they'll accept me!"
first party cleansing... more will follow: blacks, asians anyone looking different and once that has been dealt with anyone who deviates one iota from party line... where did we see that? Oh right Nazi, USSR, China... funny thing their biggest scare is "communism" yet they follow the same playbook
“Unity drives victory.”
Yeah, they like unity, not diversity.
They were on the other side with the others mocking the log cabin republicans.
"They came for the gays, but I didn't stand up because I wasn't gay and I didn't like them either because my shitty bigoted Islam and their shitty bigoted Christianity told us to hate the gays, so it was okay, but the bigotry against ME is where I draw the line"
My neighborhood has a lot of Bhutani and Nepali immigrants and when I was canvassing last year a surprising number of houses had the older generation as Republicans and the younger generation as Democrats.
It was just weird to me. I’m wondering how someone with limited English would make that kind of decision. What were their criteria? What did they base it on?
At the end of the day I blamed it on what I blame everything on: Reagan. These were Boomer age folks who remember the gilded 80s in US pop culture.
But I would love to explore it more deeply. Is being conservative common with immigrant parents?
I'm wondering how someone with limited English would make that kind of decision. What were their criteria? What did they base it on?
"Family values", opposing abortion, limiting women's rights....
You know. Conservative.
All the boomers I knew and grew up around, including my parents, fucking hated Ronnie Raygun with a white-hot hatred.
My boomer parents were the same.
We had an exceptional experience.
At the end of the day I blamed it on what I blame everything on: Reagan. These were Boomer age folks who remember the gilded 80s in US pop culture.
Don't forget Marget Thatcher and the rest of 80s Conservative Ghouls.
Leopards and faces.
I mean, really, do these guys not understand just what the Republican party truly is? Same for the conservative "movement"?
Hey - I know Rick Scarborough.
He's a bastard.
Fun fact: I really had to search for this, academic websites are erasing a key line and I didn't bother with .gov, the reasons should be obvious.

Article 11
Fuck I hate the long s
"just because you hate women and gays doesn't mean we're friends"
Is he even Muslim though?
Nope, but he's brown and from that same general direction so I guess they thought they were okay.
According to Wikipedia Patel was raised in the Hindu faith. All these idiots are pick-me white worshipers.
This has to be some sort of masochism, right?
Did the leopard eat your face again?
So grand, this old party...
“You’re going to find Muslims that aren’t being antagonistic or mean, at least not publicly. But I’ll guarantee, if they get power, they’ll cut your head off as believers of Christ,” he said.
Really, such vile people. Filled with hate and lies and truly believing themselves to be good people. The self-delusion is impressive.
Helps to remember that this shit is 100% pure projection.
Licking their would be oppressors boot isn't working out for them? I bet they thought that they were one of the good Muslims and would get an exemption from the discrimination as a result.
But I’ll guarantee, if they get power, they’ll cut your head off as believers of Christ,” he said.
Well, this guy is an idiot, and he probably doesn't care, but as "people of the book", Muslims tend to value xtians over, say, atheists.
It’s ironic
Islam is not compatible with western society/values. You can see this very well in germany, where even the left-leaning mainstream media sloooooowly starts acknowledging the issues that come with islamic parallel societies. I absolutely cannot understand why leftists so vehemently defend Islam when this religion has values which are the literal OPPOSITE of what leftists fight for. This is not racism, this is not Islamophobia, it's plain facts that Islam has a lot of problems.
It's because I live and work with Muslims. Turns out there are as many of them who hold values I agree with as there are Christians or Jews.
The biggest difference I see is which groups get hate. I don't see the need to defend Christianity because there's no pervasive disparagement or hostility.
I occasionally defend Judaism because I occasionally encounter disparaging language or people who conflate the nation of Israel with either the ethnic group or the religion.
A lot of people make comments about how they're not islamaphobic, but it just so happens to be that reality perfectly reflects their prejudiced beliefs.
Kinda like the people who aren't mysoginists or anything, but have found that, coincidentally, the ideal and natural gender roles and power dynamics between the sexes perfectly mirrors the media representation of the 1950s.
As much as I think we should look to Europe for running a society, race and religious tolerance are not one of those subjects in which I defer to them.
Do you actually think it's unexpected that people who are never fully allowed to integrate into society for some reason don't fully integrate into society? That laws that make it specifically difficult for them to coexist might result in them ... Not coexisting as well?
If it's the content of their texts that's causing you a concern, have I got news for you about every fucking religion.
Islam is not compatible with western society/values.
Western values are a consequence of the Enlightenment, which resulted from Islamic teachings and practices.
Everything from the abolitionist movement to socialist critiques of capital accumulation to modern ecological sciences to all of advanced mathematics came out of the Middle East in the 15th century.
You're not entirely wrong. There are plenty of Western anarchonisms that rub modern Muslims the wrong way. But you might find that the "Western Values" you're left with after you peel off all the Islamic bits is just Dutch Merchantalist White Nationalism.
That's assuming you don't all end up Mormon, having reinvented Islam from first principles.
If you have problems with religions as a whole, I think that's fine. But why is Islam specifically not compatible with western society but Christianity is? Islam isn't monolithic in the same way Christianity isn't monolithic. I'm sure you could cherry pick things from the Quran that are dangerous and scary. I could do the same thing with the Bible. Not all Christians follow the Bible strictly as written. The same is true of Muslims and the Quran. Do you think Christian values are aligned with what leftists fight for? Do you believe we should remove Christians from the country for having differing values from leftist goals? And as long as there is a separation of church and state, then it doesn't really matter what religious beliefs someone holds.
After reading the article. The Republicans aren't necessarily wrong with their concerns about Sharia Law. They just need to look in a mirror.
And he probably shouldn't have admitted this, to be honest when he said:
He was practicing Sharia at that very moment,
Kind of implies he has no issue with Sharia Law being imposed.
This is certainly a take, so Imma ask you to further clarify your positions:
What concerns raised about the law's "incompatibility with Judeo-Christian values" are worth listening to?
Also, the last sentence is an especially stinky take: people are allowed to impose discipline on themselves without demanding others follow the same (like gyms and diets).
What concerns raised about the law’s “incompatibility with Judeo-Christian values” are worth listening to?
The issue isn't that they are compatable, it's that both Judeo-Christian values and Shria Law are two sides of the same coin. Religious restrictions imposed on others.
Also, the last sentence is an especially stinky take: people are allowed to impose discipline on themselves without demanding others follow the same (like gyms and diets).
Not saying they can't. The framing that that he's practicing Sharia law wasn't the best thing to say in response to the allegations. He could have said, "Sharia Law doesn't require A,B,C." Instead, he said made a general claim about lies and how he is currently practicing Sharia law, further validating the criticism against him.
