I dont think further violence has ever really fixed this problem and I dont believe that’s going to magically change now.
I think this is naive. Violence is an incredibly effective tool at degrading organizational capacity, destroying institutional memory, and quelling public opposition.
When you're dealing with ICE agents who can cavalierly execute civilians in public, I would love all three of those things to befall them, because I don't want an organization with the capacity, the knowledge, and the public platform to execute my neighbors.
But insurgent violence comes with enormous personal risks, it requires professional training, and it rarely produces tangible results in a single lifetime (especially the lifetime of a militant insurgent). So I'm certainly not going to ask people to stick their necks out.
I just get tired of people posting TikToks in Camo Cosplay, pretending they're part of some Last Line of Defense Against Tyranny. You're bad liars. No serious person takes the 2nd amendment seriously as a political deterrent.

I general strike would be a good first step. It would be very painful and risky given how many folks live paycheck to paycheck and how we have almost no social safety net, but it’s safer and more realistic than everyone trying to go full Rambo or Red Dawn.

It's also possible that they said "get out of here" just before the video started and then subsequently yelled "get out of the car". I never heard anything but get out of the car in the video that's making the rounds, but it's definitely possible the witness heard it before the video starts. And if that's the case, then they would've been giving conflicting orders, which I've seen happen in numerous encounters with police before.

Yes. That's one of the most striking things I got from the video, that the murderer went from getting out of his SUV to shooting his gun in just a few seconds, as though that was what he got out of his car to do.
Also, I have gun experience but not with automatics, so I don't know enough to say with certainty one way or another, but I did not see him disengage his safety, meaning that there is some non-zero chance he already had the safety disengaged when he got out of his vehicle.
All of your points are excellent, and you're right. We HAVE to avoid violent response -- for now -- if we do not want to speed up the destruction of what is left of our democracy.
EDITED to correct myself: I watched the video again and the shooter was already standing toward the hood of her car; the individual exiting the SUV I referred to above was not the actual shooter.

You can see the shooters feet not in front of the vehicle between the legs of the guy grabbing the door as she starts to turn. He was not about to be run over.
The shooter had his gun drawn approaching the front of the car to be able to shoot her that fast. No one else had their gun out. Why? That fuckhead is trigger happy and ready to kill.

What pissed me off, especially on places like Reddit, is the "no doxxing" rule. YOU CANT DOXX A PUBLIC SERVANT. Part of being a government worker is transparency and accountability. You can't hide behind anonymity.
The concept of doxxing goes way back before people tied their real identity to their online one. "Doxxing" or "providing documents" is the act of tying someone's real life identity to their anonymous one against their will. It is not identifying someone in public or using it to shield them from due criticism for their actions.
You can't do that with people who are supposed to be unmasked in the first place, and are legally required to identify themselves as government agents as part of their job. It's not "doxxing", it's basic fucking accountability and transparency.

This is not tragic, it is outrageous. At least, it would be in any other country that considers itself a constitutional state. This is nothing less than murder on behalf of the state - there is no other way to put it.
I cannot understand how US citizens can still believe that they live in a constitutional state despite all this. Every day there are reports like this that undoubtedly refute this naive assumption.

I have been noticing the increased anger with people's posts online, myself included. I just said yesterday that it feels like a tipping point and it's not gonna take much to start the riots. This event feels like a heavy hand on the scale pushing everyone over the edge. I hope it's not and we can continue the peaceful protests. But I don't blame anyone for taking a stand.

Protests can be peaceful and armed, FWIW. That’s what started the Black Panthers. People realized that unarmed peaceful protests got violently broken up… But heavily armed peaceful protests had cops politely watching from across the street.
Cops were more than happy to fire into crowds when everyone was unarmed. But the cost/benefit ratio suddenly changed when the entire crowd could return fire. A cop may be able to hit three or four protestors, and in an unarmed protest, the rest would quickly scatter and disperse. But when everyone was armed, the rest of the crowd could immediately return fire instead.
It’s also what started modern gun control laws. When lawmakers saw a bunch of heavily armed black people on their front porch, and saw cops unwilling to break it up, they got really fucking sweaty. So Ronald Reagan (yes, the same Reagan that conservatives put on a pedestal) and the NRA (yes, the same NRA that lobbies for looser gun control after school shootings) co-sponsored the Mullford Act, which was the most restrictive gun control bill the country had ever seen. It was literally the start of modern gun control laws.
This is what drove the Black Panthers underground, as the lawmakers and police worked to criminalize and track them, so they could kick down doors during dinner time, instead of busting up the peaceful protests directly. And we still see that tactic being used today, with police setting up cell phone trackers and facial recognition cameras at protests, and raiding suspected attendees’ homes days or weeks after the protest.

You have a setting for your account where you need to enable "adult media" or similar. If that is enabled, then you will be able to click the "Graphic Media" warning and the video will open. If you haven't enabled that then it doesn't give you the option to click to open.

I propose the following:
various stakeholders create a think tank to propose the best way to criminally hold accountable these ICE agents once those in power become more decent
it is important to realize that younger people are more liberal and will eventually vote, making the planet better and less annoying, and also allowing for better politicians to be in office
once those who recognize the corruption of ICE are in power, laws must be changed so that appropriate trials and punishments can be handed out to these ice agents that committed evil acts during this period
constitutional amendments may be need to be ratified to allow a rare exception to ex-post-facto laws in instance of blatant government corruption and immoral conduct
once a legal system is put into place such that trials can occur, appropriate lawful responses should occur, with punishments that could include prison or or something more serious for ICE agents that engaged in extrajudicial killing and torture, should that be agreed to by law makers
sending anyone to CECOT should be deemed torture, and anyone involved directly or indirectly in sending anyone there should be lawfully tried.
we need to make clear that immigration policy and enforcement do not exculpate acts of evil, and that accepting the need for borders and immigration rules and enforcement and enforcement agents does not mean that an "anything goes" mentality won't be later met with brutal consequences for those involved in evil.
These old racist ultra-right Republican types won't be around forever, and younger people are more and more liberal and disgusted by ultra right wing Republican behavior. We need to start having a real conversation about what we will do in 10-20 years when decent people have consolidated power to make sure there is a lawful process to brutally respond to this outrageous corruption, even if time has elapsed.
It is important to find lawful ways such that if 10 years or even 20 years elapses, there will be accountability once decent people have consolidated power.
This must be done in a lawful way, respectful of the constitution, and done by voting and legislation, not by illegal means. We should start having these conversations now, openly, fully advocating for lawful means of coming into power, including waiting for younger people to be of voting age, and a method for accountability.
Ultimately, laws come from the people, and historical things preventing ex-post-facto regulation can always be changed.
We need to remember Renee Good and have a National Day of Mourning every year to remember this horrible brutality and the evil that ICE has brought upon our country.
I do not consider myself a liberal and this problem should not be put into liberal or conservative terms. We need a coalition of people who recognize the evil of what is happening and want to find a lawful organized way of responding that involves voting for change, emphasizing above all else democratic voting, following the law, and accountability.

What rings odd to me is that witnesses on the video are screaming "shame" and "what the fuck" instead of getting out of sight and calling ambulance ASAP. Odd priorities and highly dangerous behavior, given the situation, and speaks as a red flag that we may not know everything.

Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.
