Trump's letter to Prime Minister of Norway. If Americans could read, they'd be really embarrassed right now.

What an absolute embarrassing time to be an American. I apologize to the world on behalf of America for this fucking lunatic.

I appreciate that you mean well, but apologies on behalf of America are just empty, worthless words. I know I have no use for it and can't imagine who would.

I have nothing against you personally, and the fact that you're not a Republican ghoul is already a lot to ask in today's Trump's America, but the rest of the world is well past caring about Americans futilely commenting about their sense of shame on the Internet.

I'm well past caring about the rest of the world tut-tutting and waiting for American wage slaves to solve an unprecedented global problem. If you're not out in the streets demanding your government take proactive sanctions and tangible actions you are at least as culpable as any average US dissident who is risking a shit ton more than you. What's your excuse?

Look at this fucking thread! Suddenly it "getting scary" because the demented old fuck wrote a grade-school level angry letter? It wasn't scary before because the troops were aimed at internal opposition and third world countries? Give me a fucking break...

I'm sorry. What?

My excuse? I live in France buddy, do you think it's on me and my fellow compatriot wageslaves to protest our government in order to make them act against your government? We have our own struggles to contend with if you can believe it, and even if we had the time and energy, how is it our place to try to repair the shit show going on in your country. As to our leaders, the US has been trying to brazenly fuck us for the past year, almost on the daily now, don't you think if they could do more to defend themselves they would?

«As least as culpable» ? So, maybe more culpable? I don't even know how to qualify that type of thinking. Again, it's not my country, I only have to suffer the consequences of what's going on there like the rest of the world. I guess, sorry there's an ocean between us? My bad.

Tut-tutting?

The guy felt the need to apologise on behalf of the US. Except he doesn't speak on behalf of the US. I appreciate they're trying to be a good person but what am I supposed to do with it, is it supposed to make us feel better? Because to me it doesn't. Thanks but it's a meaningless gesture. Is it supposed to make them feel better? In which case, OK cool whatever. But I'm sorry my expressing a feeling of lassitude about American commentary adressed at us, Europeans and the reest of the world, upset you that much. I guess I'll make sure to do better next time and put in efforts in my spare time to try help you fix your country for you?

So it's the wage slaves in other countries which must sort out your internal affairs instead?

One of my governments is already staunchly anti-Trump. The other one, hundreds of miles away, doesn't listen to my region, which is why we have two governments in the first place. Am I to travel all the way from the north of Scotland to London because Americans can't keep their house in order? Is the rest of the world meant to do similar?

Americans have loudly and proudly derided other countries for decades. Claiming they're the best at everything, more freedom, more money, only country to have touched the moon, fuck yeah, than the rest of the world. The Land of the Brave. The Land of the Free. Freedom™. Freedom to carry weaponry on the off chance you have a tyrannical government that needs overthrown.

And yet we're the ones being told off for getting annoyed that we all must suffer because of your internal politics?

Do you not think other parts of the world have their own struggles to deal with? Their own political campaigns for/against various things?

This is an American problem to be dealt with by Americans.

One of my governments is already staunchly anti-Trump.

Neat, what have they actually fucking done? They could freeze/sieze the assets of any of the fascists backing this regime at any time. They could issue arrest warrants for any of these republican congressmen doing their fascist world tours. They could shut down access to captured American social media platforms. Are they doing any of that? Because they could sign a piece of paper and have those checked off by tomorrow.

Am I to travel all the way from the north of Scotland to London

😂😂😂😂😂 It's 40 hours minimum for the 4 million people in Los Angeles to reach Washington DC. Or are Americans supposed to get a critical mass of opposition to the Capitol on commercial flights; just checking their torches and pitchforks before takeoff?

But a ten hour trip to London is too much? Couldn't be bothered to take a weekend flight and spend <$150 to make a physical display of your displeasure?

Americans have loudly and proudly...

Beautiful straw man you've got there. Too bad the 90% of the country that doesn't watch fox news hasn't held anything close to those opinions for 30+ years. You can just look this shit up, we live in 2026.

And yet we're the ones being told off for getting annoyed that we all must suffer because of your internal politics?

And yet I'm the one who has to untangle the decades of hyper-dependence your milquetoast neolib governments have built up around a crumbling USA? I don't have more pressing concerns? I should put the physical safety and wellbeing of my local community aside because it's becoming concerning for you?

This is an American problem to be dealt with by Americans.

I should just save myself time and bookmark my previous post to link to. It's always the same two responses:

  2. "Why aren't you fixing our mistake for us? You expect us to do something ourselves?!"

Fighting ICE directly with violence yields dead, or maimed protesters and bystanders. MAGA would rejoice and call for blood. Many more on the left will get charged with felonies and denied voting rights. Many MAGA civilians will be emboldened to enact their own “righteous justice” against the leftist scum.

Protesting does nothing when those in power don’t care at all. It will not change MAGAmind. It will be viewed by the majority as an annoyance.

I now believe that the best course of action is to strike at the capitalist heart of America. Halt the financial markets. Ensure pain wherever wealth is. Find the many single points of failure, and then fail those motherfuckers. This is the FIRST step.

What comes next is one of the reasons why UAVs and parts are now controlled (banned).

I'm an American and I'm kinda tired of hearing my countrymen apologize and say they are embarrassed. Were over a year into this and waaaay past the time to say that kinda shit. We shouldn't be embarrassed, we should feel ashamed and angry. And we shouldn't apologize, we should be actively finding ways to make a change no matter how small.

I know there are plenty of other Americans that probably lurk on communities like this so I'm mostly saying this to them. And the only reason I'm saying this is because about half the time I see other Americans apologize and say how embarassed they are it often seems like it's a way to say "see? I'm one of the good ones." None of us are the "good ones" anymore unless you are actively putting in the work. It doesn't matter if you didn't vote for him because he's still the president. People have died, continue to die, and will die in the future because of this man and he's doing all of it in our name. If Trump actually causes a global conflict with his bullshit we will not be blameless when the dust settles and our country will have to pay for this regardless of who you voted for.

It’s unbelievable difficult when they have you at the throats financially. I don’t think you fully understand this until you in the middle of it. Being the primary provider for my daughter, I have basically two options. One is to work on a way out so she can have a better life (current plan) OR to risk that she will be an orphan by actively going against the government as everyone outside of US expects. If you have your own children, take a minute to really think if you okay with your child becoming an orphan or homeless, because that’s the reality here. Even posting this risks my employment, as freedom of speech is long gone. This is just my opinion, and does not reflect the opinion of my employer.

This is the thing that fucking sucks. my wife recently got diagnosed with a pituitary tumor and possibly is about to be diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy. We've got 3 autistic kids that are varying degrees of developmentally disabled. We live off SNAP and her disability benefits and they rely on me for care.

So like, what the hell am I supposed to do here? I'm not in the greatest physical health myself, but I could be out there doing something. But if I get arrested or killed protesting this regime, who is going to take care of my family? It really feels like all I can really do is use my cameras to keep watch in my neighborhood in case ICE ever comes around here to harass my neighbors and hope that I can get enough of my neighbors together to run them off if they do.

Nothing is going to be easy, but the rest if the world is looking to you, the American people, to, at least, blunt this problem as you're the only ones with the power to do so without a conflict that us likely to go global.

The poison goes deeper than just trump though. It'll take a societal level change to truly fix, so general strikes, protests, civil disobedience and such are all good, but actually just finding ways to reach the huge chunk if the electorate that doesn't seem to care about it, and bring them round to seeing the problem would make a huge difference. Talk to the disengaged folk around you, find ways to help them and gain their understanding. That way it's not just the ardent against an apparently rising tide of fascists, but a majority rising up against the evil within. Fascism wins for only as long as it can portray itself as strong. Humble it with numbers.

We need to do something, yes.

Engaging the apathetic won’t work. Changing the minds of MAGA won’t work. Using our existing system will not work.

The dollars need to burn to awaken the wrath. To do that most likely requires significant violence. Various nations hold their own leverage with US bonds. Those nations need to recognize that those bonds are junk anyway, and will be worthless.

We (humans) are all going to feel a lot of pain from this. It will not be isolated to the US. MAGA will lash out with global violence. Russia, Israel and other bad actors will use the opportunities too.

I want to act. I have been racking my little brain about how. The only organizing happening is for the traditional avenues of change. Should I be lone wolf? How do I shutdown the financial markets? I have no money. I don’t know how to hack, or make and use energetics. The levers that need to be pulled are out of my reach at the moment, but not out of the reach for some other nations. Pull the fucking levers!

You are looking at this as some massive and dramatic plot that only states can possibly influence, and will necessitate massive violence. Your last paragraph shows the inevitable conclusion of that misaprehension, you cast around for a solution you, individually, can implement, find none, and sink back into paralized inaction. Functionally, you give up. Thus is exactly what fascists require of you. Thus is how they remain strong, and prevent dissent.

The truth is, it's smaller actions that will have the real effects. If trump were to drop dead this minute, the fascism would not end. It might receed as they regroup, but has sunk deep into American life now. It is that societal malaise that is driving this, and trump and his cronies are just symptoms of it. The only way that will change is by the steady, hard, work of individuals like you reaching out to the people you can reach, helping them to see that there is a better way, and helping them embrace it. It is by building a groundswell of support like that, that the poison can be neutralized and American life brought back from the brink. In doing so, you deprive fascism of the one thing it mist needs: the appearance of strength.

You say "Engaging the apathetic won’t work" as though it us a truism, but as trump pushes further, as the economy breaks down further, as their friends, neighbours, and loved ones disappear, as life becones less tolerable, it becomes harder to ignore it all, and those who were apathetic will find themselves looking for a solution too. Leave them, and they can easily be swept up by those offering the illusion of strength and power. Instead you, and people like you, need to be talking to them, pkanting the seeds of doubt in their minds, showing them that this is all a sham, that there is a better way. Build support, and support each other. As the numbers grow it will become less and less comfortable for those who support fascism to express that in public. This is going to be rough, but it doesn't have to be cataclysmic.

American fascism will fall, of that I am certain. The only questions are when, and how much damage it does in falling. If enough of the American public can find common cause and work together they can bring that moment forward, and minimise the damage. Fail to do so, and there might not be anything recognisable left afterwards.

I'm American born and raised and here's the truth: whether by incompetence or malice, the United States' politicians handed over governance duties to corporations and, for my entire life, have made choices in direct opposition to its stated values.

My government is not your friend, or friend to me or anyone I have ever met. Since at least Reagan, and indisputably since """Citizens United""" it is a vessel for the primarily the military industrial complex.

The world would be in a better place if the US held to its espoused values of democracy and liberty, but although I've known many citizens who take these to heart in their daily lives, and are honorable and loving people, and imagine themselves members of the global community, in practice our government stands on these principles only so far as they are profitable for the military industrial complex, and for billionaires.

They have stripped hollow our education system and trampled consumer protection at every turn. They have at multiple times operated illegal concentration camps, and served as inspiration to the nazis themselves. They have waged death for oil and resources, in our name. When we stand against them, they imprison and kill us.

The world is deeply ill-served by a globally influential United States until massive systemic change occurs. They must give us ranked choice voting. Curb the supreme court. Enshrine systemic balance in policy, not gentlemen's agreements. Until then, ice us the fuck out and save yourselves from our lunatic leadership.

If you're actually interested in motivating action you should start by considering that maybe it's possible people are trying and that there are entrenched systems of oppression that dull their impact, or its visibility to you. I work with politics in Canada. I hold fundraisers. I support social programs. I volunteer. I door knock for awareness. I'm putting in the work in Canada for Canada.

I've already said many times if the US crosses into Canada I'm more than willing to blow my shit up to take down a few American Nazis. I'm willing to die for my country to defend it.

I AM the change I want to see and I'm ready to give my life for the change.

Sorry your country isn't showing you the work people are putting in over here then. I'll bet that you, without a sense of irony, think it's shitty that all Americans are racist or something, because it's bad to judge large groups of people poorly over the actions of only some of that group or believe in stereotypes.

They've never left their bubble of people that look and think like them. Even the ones with college educations only socialized with people like themselves while in schools. They never leave their comfort zone.

They're emotionally and socially immature. Those aspects of their personality stopped developing in their teens. They still act like teenage bullies and mean girls.

Their "news" consists entirely right wing propaganda. Social media, FOX "news", etc. They're addicted to outrage and they lack critical thinking skills.

Even if he understood (I doubt he does but perhaps) he wouldn't even care cause NATO doesn't give him tribute to helping the world keep peace.

Amazing what one person elected(?) can do to the world order.

I sort of thought during his first term the people who elect the country with the world's most powerful alliance shouldn't be just by their own country or at least be due to revue by the alliance's participants. As much as it sucks for sovereignty we are in a different place these days, hell perhaps we weren't aligned enough before.

Am Canadian so having our neighbor do this crap is horrifying.

Yes I know that goes against a country's democracy but perhaps times have changed for alliance requirements. The US made themselves dependable and that should with stipulations to be a part of an alliance.

He was elected, no question about it. Americans are just really really stupid.

Democracy is fine, and so are alliances. Venezuela isn't in an alliance and the Americans can do as they please there. Also it's not a democracy so when it's one authoritarian country fucking around with another authoritarian country, no one's going to get up in arms. If Denmark didn't have allies and wasn't a democracy, the US would've invaded Greenland six months ago if not sooner.

The problem is ignorance. Americans are just generally ignorant of the world, ignorant of democracy and only really believe in the rights and freedoms of slave masters. Democracy isn't something written on a piece of paper as Americans believe, it's about having a society where people respect one another's rights. Our alliances are based around that.

Americans don't believe in "our rights" they only believe in "my rights" ie. the rights of the salve masters which they've been indoctrinated into worshiping. They've only had some semblance of democracy for a relatively short period of time, but will always gravitate back towards the ideals of the slave masters they worship.

Democracy will continue on even if it dies in the US and it's imperative we maintain our alliances with other democracies to contain them.

It's absolutely stunning that this is an official letter written by any government official, let alone a country's president. It reads worse than a 12-year-old's homework.

Not to mention completely false information included in the letter. What '8 PLUS' wars have you stopped? What do you mean there are no documents? The USA has literally signed an agreement with Denmark to waive all their claims to Greenland. And why are you blaming Norway's prime minister for you not getting a Nobel peace prize?

I could understand him declaring all this in a public speech. That's essentially what American politicians do for a living. However, stating such insane claims in a more-or-less private letter seems to suggest that he actually believes any of it. Which I guess is a possibility in the context of a senile, mentally deranged child predator...?

According to The Bulwark, it was reported that this was actually a text Trump sent to the PM (?, I don't know, someone in Norway's government), and then the Norwegian government formatted it into a letter for release to the public.

It's a safe bet that no one else in the US government saw this "official communication" before it went out. I'd go so far as to wager he was alone on the toilet when he sent it.

Not that the next few years will be easy, but the fact that they pretty much immediately showed their hand as fascist bullies instead of dogwhistling for another 4 years and training up a protegé will make it so much easier to activate the cognitive dissonance of people who fell for that shit.

I remember being a kid in the 90s and imagining parody versions of films... this looks like one of those. I mean I used to imagine Murph from Problem Child 2 being Dick Jones from Robocop and the preposterous dialogue that would occur.

This... this is worse than that. And it is fucking real.

Where I live, we codified anti-gerrymandering into the state constitution. Didn't stop republicans from pushing a blatantly unconstitutional district map. The response was "well, we'll review it, but it's our only option". It feels like they're saying "fuck you, there's nothing you can do to stop us", and short of blatant political violence? I think they are right.

Many of these people weren't even legally elected to their positions. They do not represent us. Our state and federal governments have been corrupted and abused by people with huge amounts of capital, for many many decades now.

Honestly that letter seems worse that any Epstein files. He'd be able to eventually walk away from this but this letter has shocked the world about his incompetence and revealed what he's after. It's not what is great for the US but what is great for Trump

I don’t think you understand what’s in the Files, if you think this letter is more shocking than what is in the files.

Even what is released so far is already more damning than these scribbles. He sent one of these letters before.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad the world is shocked about it, but the Files really are in a league of its own.

But that is what people said with most of the big cases that Trump has lost in court.

The reason why this is bigger than any other personal filth is, that now the world can see how random and untrustworthy he is.

We have had so many cases that should have taken him down already and that would have, if he had been a president or Prime Minister of any other (civilised) country

kingofras 2 points 9 months ago

I understand your scepticism. I once thought like this too, but this is different.

Consider:

  • we have nothing to lose
  • this is not a case before the court. It is before the people.
  • thousands of people have already seen large parts of the files. All it takes is one whistleblower. If we want them to come forward I want them to see my type of comments
  • he has no way out of this apart from diverting our attention and delaying. If we stop caring he wins.
  • once the files are out, either he steps down, stripping him from presidential immunity, or even the lamest congress in centuries will remove him.
  • once he is stripped of presidential immunity, Jack Smith can sue him in a civil case which is already built and ready to go.
  • if congress does not remove him, they would be wholly complicit in protecting a proven child rapist.

He will do everything to suspend elections, to keep him in the White House. This is afaik, the single pressure point he doesn’t like talking about. It exposes how his masters (Putin and Netanyahu) control him. It exposes the corrupt class that financed him (Gates, Thiel, etc) and the “allies” who are forsaken to keep him honest (UK royal family and more).

This doesn’t require nothing but our central focus on ONE issue, knowing he will keep doing harm and seek attention by doing gravely dangerous things.

The moment we stop being reactionary, and start driving the single narrative until he is gone, is the moment he lost.

And I ask you, between spending our energy on that, or spending it on getting outraged at his next venture, which one is more worthy of our limited time and energy?
