I can't understand the mental gymnastics needed to come up with, and believe that statement.
Tell them to name one problem, and show their work that Dems caused it, Repubs are trying to fix it, and how that caused diesel prices to spike.
Spoiler, they can't.
Racism brings out the creative side in people, who would'a thunk it?
Wouldnt want an unstable woman in charge of things now, would we?

The difference in gas prices between California and red states is still bigger than the difference between before and after Trump attacked Iran.
California has a history of importing fuel from Asia. Difficulty related to crossing the rockies on trucking. Though I'm surprised there isn't a rail option. Prices are much higher in Asia.
It's inevitable. Obviously this is caused by a political disruption, but oil is a finite resource. People are eventually going to be economically forced to switch to electric, and putting it off for ethnocentrism reasons is just poor policy.
One COVID like event could collapse demand in a matter of weeks, like it did last time and gas dropped to 1.85 a gallon where I live. No one was going anywhere. Air quality improved, and really nothing changed. Same self hating dipshit pedo/closet gay/rape ape president.
Almost like he's setup his whole 1st term to benefit the middle east oil subsidies his family has invested in. Like how the Liv golf foundation was just a way to funnel money to right wing Assholes
Please can you spare an ion?
Dad was complaining about California having high gas prices and not criticizing the policies that have led to this or the person he voted for causing this
California has higher than average gas prices for a myriad of complications reasons, not the least of which being a largely independent Petro industry.
Now you know why gasoline is sold by the liter in Europe: you can multiply the price another 3.5x.
$10 / gal is quite typical in Europe.
Welcome to the reality of fossil fuel scarcity and the consequences of stupid wars. It's high time Americans felt what happens when they do stupid shit in a world of dwindling cheap energy resources.
Amusingly it's a different gallon in the UK, while it's mostly obsolete it's the volume of ten pounds of water or about 4.5 litres.
Fuel has been sold by the litre for many years, but it was deemed too expensive to send someone round changing all the road signs to km/h and kilometres. Fair enough in my view but we then made the absolutely daft decision to keep measure fuel efficiency in miles to the gallon, not miles to the litre or even litres / 100 miles. Confusing to Britons who don't use gallons for anything else, confusing to other Europeans who've been entirely metric for generations, and confusing to Americans who use a different gallon.
It isnt, most european countries usually have much lower prices. Even with the current situation the median is arround 8usd/gallon.
You must live where it's cheaper. I gassed up this morning in Scandinavia and it was over 2.4β¬ per liter for diesel.
Well, it's not really an option for me: I don't drive nearly enough in a year for the expense to make financial sense, and I don't want a modern car with all the surveillance equipment built in. I fill up maybe 3 or 4 times a year, but that doesn't mean I don't feel the pain when I do π
Your math is off though.
β¬2.40 per Liter is actually β¬9.08 per gallon, which would be $10.47 per gallon US.
Thereβs 3.785L to a gallon. 2.40x3.785 is 9.08.
In France I'm seeing 2.1β¬ per liter of 95-E10
I worked in a gas station in Canada back in 2001 when the price of a liter first broke $1.00. We had to physically stick a 1 up on the electronic sign.
Hmm. I think I got the year wrong. I was still in university in 2001. It was probably 2003. So, not 9/11.
I remember this happening:

Or maybe they will finally use the international system of measurements. Nah, they will fix the machines.
Kinda surprised this hasn't happened. They wouldn't need to upgrade the sign, and it would fool a lot of people. At least for a minute.
Every time the price of gas spikes, people ask me about my ebike, a coworker was asking about it yesterday lol.
Thatβs not true. Itβs only a competition if we have a decent chance at winning.
The difference is that the rest of the world isn't directly to blame for the current prices (except for Russia and Israel who are absolutely part of the blame). The rest of the world are just victims of USA's retarded decisions.
As a comparison: The cheapest diesel available in Finland right now on September the 14th is 2.222 β¬ per litre. That translates to 9.71 USD per gallon. The most expensive available today is 2.611 β¬/l, translating to 11.41 $/gallon
So you telling me the US will start using metric because it'll be cheaper than replacing/upgrading every pump to display another digit...
I remember when they started selling gasoline by the 1/2 gallon - because the price went over $1.00/gal and the pumps didn't have a dollar position to program into them. I said then they should go up to at least two dollar digits per gallon, but no one listened to me - just like today.
Gosh I must be old.
That would confuse the hell out of Americans :)
We could switch to Big Gulp sizing?
You may be into something, but we're going to lose a lot of folks to accidental ingestion
I had a Car Crisis back in '04 and the only car on the market I could afford was a beat up 86 Suburban that couldn't have gotten more than 12mpg.
I think gas was hovering around $2.50 a gallon at that time and shit was dire, I can only imagine how rough it is for the poor souls nowadays that Need A Truck.
The thing is, it seems like there are two primary groups of diesel truck owners. One, actually does truck stuff, they tow, they haul, they use it for work.
The others just really wish they were blue collar and so wants to be like the first group. They include a very diverse group of people who are insecure guys that don't actually do anything terribly useful. They bought the truck but it only goes to an office, a costco, a school pickup line; their poorer brethren are similar, but just go to places like walmart, their ex-wife's house, and a gas station (to buy cigarettes and put $10 of fuel in).
I feel bad for the people who actually need to use those things. For the goobers who want to cosplay as a laborer, I could not be happier.
You just explained my MAGA coworker. GMC 3500 super duty diesel and it's always super clean, and he mainly uses it for going to the office. Any chance he gets to use his newly purchased trailer, he will, even if it would fit in the bed. He's really lame.
Plenty of folks are actually blue collar but don't need it. You see a lot of trucks in factory parking lots
They'll append the sign with a tiny 9/10ths of $10 sticker and roll the display back over to $ 1.10. (Forgive me if my math is off, I'm a dreamer, not a do-er)
Or... Just stick a 1 in front of the number?
I mean, this was the goal
It's a great big club and you and me ain't in it.
Well, it's just starting. We didn't see it earlier because it was the weekend.
Well, itβs just starting.
Costco is now rationing motor oil. And US crops will have no fertilizer this spring. Good thing you guys are winning the war!
https://www.fuel-prices.eu/live/ 3countrys are already past 10 dollars
While you are right, prices in the countries listed were never cheap to begin with because fuels in Europe are highly taxed.
Also, for the same reason, most European cars are leagues above US ones in terms of fuel efficiency. Fuel was always expensive here, so we started making and purchasing cars that were smaller and more efficient in order to save.
In the US, efficiency was never the goal because with cheap fuel prices, nobody cared if their truck was huge and drank several times what an European car drank to make the same distance.
Is it just the big signs that can't understand $10+ print (fixed with some cardboard), or are the pump programming incapable of calculating higher price? Y2k 2.0
I did and 5 years ago, I purchased an EV as a precaution.
If anyone is counting on the O&G crew to give you a break, I've got an orphan well to sell you.
Would be funny if this was what finally got us to switch to metric. Could happen, too, when combined with shrinkflation generally. Because nothing pushes social change like business profits.
And given how efficient are US trucks in gas consumption, a gallon is... how much in terms of mileage? 5 miles or so? How much does it cost you with those prices just to go to the gas station to fill up?
If I remember right its about 15 MPG for most diesel us trucks. So 15 miles, in real numbers about 24 kms. That is not enough to get me to the nearest city from my house. Like 30 kms to even a tim hortens. That is $10 (usd so more here) just to go to town....
I was exaggerating with the 5 MPG, I didn't expect it to be so damn low as 15 MPG. That's... Converting to lt/km that would be around 15lt per 100 kms! Damn... Not sure about average consumptions in Europe, since I drive an electric and never had an ICE but I think the average goes to around 5-6lt per 100km so that's 3 times as much. Wow...
I have been told that 14 mpgs is really good for a truck (my 1986 c20 does a bit better and its a v8 and carboratred). They are not little guys, and in this part of Canada you have more trucks on the road then just about any other type, most with one person in them and nothing in the back. At least I try to only use my truck when needing to haul yard waste or something to much for my little car, but next door has 3 trucks for 2 people.
7 to 8 Lt per 100km is about normal here (depending on what you drive) in non trucks but for years people here relate success with a big truck.
I guess that's what happens when you have cheap-ass gas prices. Efficiency is just not needed. Well, if anything, this will help people understand how convenient is an EV. I drive 60km a day for my commute and it costs me 2.4β¬ of electricity, and that's considering Italy's electricity prices are not among the lowest in Europe. With such a beast here, I'd go for around 15-16β¬ a day. Yeah, not happening ever, lol
Well if you are using it for work at least its just a business expense so its easier to justify the cost of something large. For recreational use it would be stupid.
I asked a co-worker about his mileage in his 2023 GMC diesel truck, and he was getting around 20 mpg highway.
I had a Ford F150 with a gasoline engine, and it wa good for maybe 17 mpg highway. The nearest gas station that can sell me gas that isn't old or full of water (hooray for rural living) is about 8 miles away. I think that is $1.83 to drive it to the gas station, based on the $3.89 price I saw this morning.
Of course I have to be smug and point out that I get around 4.5 miles per kwh now.
My mileage is roughly the same, between 13 to 14 kwh per 100km. I pay 0.35β¬ per kw so that puts my 100km at around 4.75β¬. Right now in italy that's around 2lt of diesel. You won't get 100km from 2lt of diesel. Ever. And it's only going to get worse.
I've been mocked since I first got an EV almost 5 years ago because I didn't have a realcarβ’ so now I am sorry but I'm gonna point how much does it cost me to drive my car every time someone brings out the gas prices at work.
Ive only been driving an EV for two months. The sneers have started to taper off the last two weeks.
My electric at home is about 8Β’ per kwh. From my driveway to work and back is almost exactly 62 miles which is close to 100 km. If I assume Im not perfect and I only get 4 miles per kwh, I use 15.5 kwh commuting each day which comes to $1.24. Diesel was 5.99/gallon this morning, some gentle touches on my calculator tell me that $1.24 comes out to .787 liters of diesel fuel. Which as you point out isn't going to take you far.
Wish I could work from home.
So, I currently have a Chevy Silverado 6.0 liter gas truck. 4 full doors, long bed. I tow a 37ft bumper pull rv with it full time, around 9000lbs loaded. Truck bed is full, maybe another 1200lbs.
I get 7mpg average, and thatβs across the country a few times. Unloaded maybe 10mpg. I run up to about 80mph when towing where possible.
My Dodge Ram before it with a 12v Cummins diesel got 14mpg loaded similarly, and about 18-20mpg unloaded (I kept about 500lbs of wood in the bed all the time so it was never really empty).
Itβs about $130 to fill up my Chevy right now with current gas prices. We had to do it about six times to move up north this summer for work.
I run up to about 80mph when towing where possible.
Maybe that's part of the problem? Cars lose a lot of efficiency when you start going over ~60 mph.
I kept about 500lbs of wood in the bed all the time so it was never really empty)
I'm starting to think you don't care all that much about efficiency
Haha, yeah, itβs almost as bad under 60, but the speed limit is typically 65-75 most places in the US on major highways. When we travel, it is faster to take those roads with the higher speed limits, as we are moving multiple states away at one time. And if you arenβt doing at least the speed limit, itβs dangerous.
As for the wood in the bed of the truck, it was in a Cummins powered truck. They run better, cleaner, and last a bit longer when they are doing work, so a bit of weight can help when you are also giving it the beans between lights. When it wasnβt towing, it still had weight in it.
Meanwhile EVs are costing that much per 250 miles or so...
I mean, I live in a country with expensive electricity and I can't charge at home, so prices are even higher because I use the public charge points. Still, I drive around 400km with less than 20β¬ that's simply unachievable with an ICE car, let alone and US ICE car.
I want to get an EV but, until we make more money or one of our cars breaks down, my wife and I are stuck with ICE.
Shouldn't be too much longer though. My wife drives a Jeep, the emo of cars. It was born to die.
Iβm trying to figure out how to afford EVs for my kids and itβs not happening π. They have no way to charge at home, but still β¦. Also wondering if I can mod a slate truck to look sort of Jeep like (Iβm realistic about my chances of going off road intentionally)
I don't have a place to charge, but my wife and I are in agreement that our next car will be electric. I'm hoping that's a few years off still so we can move somewhere with charging first. But yeah, it just doesn't make sense to buy gas cars anymore
NGL, if you can. start to holmes out the most locally produced food vendors and farms you can find. Shit's gonna get expensive very quickly. I'm already looking to start to lay up fresh frozen and canned food now, before the cost rises.
Is 9.99 actually highest or is the OP unaware you can move a decimal point
Some signs aren't designed for it. Like they hav four slots for digital numbers and a physical "." Painted on the signed between the first and second display. Not just a single display that shows "#.###"
I believe some are also digital, but use, as you said, a fixed decimal place on the road sign, so, in order to show 10.00, yould not only have to shift/ paint over the fixed decimal, the systems would have to be adjusted to $1, which no station owner wants.
(Dont tell trump - hed just try that and say he reduced the price of gas)
There was a time we thought gas wouldn't go over a dollar a gallon, or in Canada over a dollar a litre and yet we've adjusted
It wasn't that hard to adjust, wasn't it? You just needed to add a zero.

Are you claiming there's numbers above 9? Next you're going to tell me birds a real...
